  1. I used to tie 18's, but now I don't think I could tie one on?
  2. That's called a hangover, try buying the good stuff next time. Maybe the jig should be tested for fall without a trailer. I'm not 100% sold on a jig trailer, especially if you can get a decent fall without one.
  3. I didn't intend it to mean a place that was the only place one fishes, but one of those you have repeatedly returned to over the years.
  4. I thought this might be interesting. I was at Truman Tailwater yesterday and it dawned on me that I've over fish the Osage around Warsaw , off and on, for over fifty years. I've also fished Bennett for about the same amount. I've missed years when living out of state, and probably some when back in state, but I always end up fishing them again. How about you?
  5. I might throw in a couple. As to owls locating mice by sound, house cats do this also and they don't catch them by sight in the dark. If you've never been under a tree at night with a Great Horned or Barred hooting in it, you won't believe how loud they actually are. If you don't know they are there you might need a change of underwear.
  6. Its pretty expensive and not really worth it unless you have multiple rifles and are particular about pinpoint accuarcy. There is some argument for being able to shoot more, but it has to be something you will do without exceptions.
  7. Very interesting, but I hope this doesn't raise the price.
  8. Like many on here I have my own ideas on the subject. When it comes to no kill I would only support this on streams with a sustaining population. On those stream that are stocked it would be 2 under 14". That's enough, or should be to satisfy the "keeper" fishermen. I don't like too see trebles in fish with small mouths period. Why not for all fish that have precarious natural populations? I think this should be left for education, its to hard to enforce fairly, unless you require a true barbless hook and that would limit choice.
  9. No they are kept in filthy conditions at times. Chickens and pigs are kept somewhat free of things like anti biotic's, or at least they were. Cattle on the other hand aren't. Both were fed leftover parts, but I believe much of that has passed also.
  10. Brownieman if you're going to call that a fly box you need to put a feather on at least one of those. Oh and the pliers don't count!
  11. I've been know to obsess over jig color, done that for decades. But I've concluded that anything beyond an ugly brown or green, and sometimes black is probably a waste of time. I don't know if my "highlight" strands make a difference to the fish or myself, but it is my contribution to "Matching the Hatch."
  12. That's not a new design, like Al said, its the old Shannon Twin Spin.
  13. Just looking at the bank. Its a spawning area and it doesn't have to extend very deep. Its not something I would look for now, its just one of the things to help predict a Smallie population in a lake. TR is much the same way, as you get farther east into the area where all three things are present in quantity the Smallie population increases.
  14. I'm going to keep it in mind, might make it. Haven't seen you in awhile.
  15. Well that puts it in good company, with about a million other lures. It also appears you read all three.
  16. The upper BS isn't really good Smallie habitat and I think many of those caught in the spring are returning to the creeks, after wintering in the lake. BS is a good Smallie lake, but I think the best is down closer to the dam. While I'll probably leave myself wide open, I think you need three things to really attract them deep drops, pea gravel and chunk rock. The upper is short on gravel and deep drops.
  17. I believe they simply reupholstered too many cars and boats and the demand drove them to extinction.
  18. I'm a great believer in the fact that fish concentrate on distinguishing marks or colors. The stripes I think would be much more important, as long as the body isn't too far off. That's also why I like to have a hint of the highlight colors found on a lot of craws.
  19. The creeks are running clear and that generally means a fast drop when there is no rain forecast.
  20. There's no Bigfoot?
  21. I think that has more to do with the water than anything else. Some of the waters on the McKenzie and Deschutes are pretty rough and its hard to keep track of something floating.
  22. Or post the GPS location on the dock, confirmed by the Water Patrol of course.
  23. Speaking of the paranormal, where's the ghost going to live if they tear down the Riverside Inn? I wonder if FEMA will find him a place to?
  24. "I'll try tying a black and brown one later on. I know I won't be able to replicate the horizontal stripes on that crayfish....unless.....", whats it called, oh yea a Magic Marker.
  25. That's about all I ever use. In some streams that are heavy on springs I think they do still feed off the bottom, but otherwise, it seems that minnows are the favored source. I put my Pointers away when I found the X raps, I've just done better on them, at least in a couple of colors. Creek wader that's about all you see in the Niangua.
