    I have to disagree and by your own admission, its common and should be expected. Its the responsibility of of the guardians to protect the children. I know its not intended, but like Al said, its all too common for people to ignore the dangers or be ignorant of the threats. Dangers that can multiply greatly when there's flooding and constant change on the rivers. I do think that the livery owners do have some obligation to at least attempt to discourage a trip on waters that have a high level of danger.

    I wouldn't say its fairly deep, but there were a lot of nice holes. We went at under 3' and there was a lot of filament moss then, which hampered our fishing. Many of the holes are long and accompanied by nice gravel bars for camping.

    Very sad. I do wish the livery people would refuse rental when there's a known danger, but parents are the no# 1 cause in my experience. We lived in the Niangua area for some years and every year or so a youngster was lost, under the care of their parents.

    If you're concerned don't go past the brick building on the right, just above Lilley's dock. You won't handicap yourself, in my opinion.

    I've fished the lower end many times. Its on my "Like to fish " list.

    The Kentucky's/Spotted bass tend to mess up the equation by never reaching the slot exit point.

    From my experience, it will be higher than usual, but stained at the worse. They won't drop BS beyond generation if they don't need to.

    This is a time to be very cautious on the rivers. Around the next bend might be a strainer thats never been there before.

    I don't remember '02, not dates at least but BS, and I believe TR, was still high in June last year. Last year can't be compared to this year of course. I would think TR will be well up in the flood pool Memorial day, but water is water so they will be places to play.

    I don't know if thats true or not, but I don't see how they could alleviate that much pressure, given the height. So basically Phil, you're saying they haven't used much of the flood gates capacity? With that in mind the auxiliary gates become even more questionable. It would seem that opening them could seriously jeopardize the Bull Shoals dam, not to mention the downstream destruction from Branson to the Mississippi. It seems to me, after watching the events the last few weeks, that they have no realistic purpose.

    Its becoming obvious, at least to me, that the auxiliary gates are probably useless. They have nowhere to run the water too, and wouldn't have unless the abnormal rain was confined to the Table Rock and Beaver watersheds. Raising the dam, which I understand was the other option, and increasing the flood pool would have given them some options. It seems that their backs are to the wall now, and if this isn't the 500 year flood, well?????

    Demand is very low at this time of the day because of temperatures and you can't turn power plants on and off, catch 22. I would think that they could crack the flood gates at night though and get rid of some water.

    We always fished out of a boat, generally where the Pomme entered the Osage, but we generally grabbed them at the base of the bill, and kept a lasso for anything really large, which we used on the tail. We used single hooks. The old man that ran the livery in Fairfield showed us how to rig them, and they do give a bigger bite.

    What Pothole, seriously, the only access is from Empire. Like Forsythian said, Beaver is probably the only place where you can put in and park, but I don't know thats a fact. You might get in at the road into Shadow Rock, but the business there might complain about parking a rig.

    It appears that the storm can't shake loose from the White watershed.

    I haven't snagged in decades, but I have to ask, with that big handle out front, why would anyone gaff a Spoon? I don't want to start anything either, but giving fish away doesn't change your possession limit, they are still yours technically.

    Actually Porter its always been my experience that when something like this happens the knowledge field levels. The cover and structure has multiplied to the point that I'm sure everyone is searching, including locals. Its still the same game however, converting fishing into catching.

    Have you checked with dealers, if any, in NE OK or NW AR?

    There is some new cover in Shadow Rock and River Run.. If the water stays up Swan should be a good producer with all the cover it has.

    I understand that leaf debris is the favored habitat of scud, and its probably the least stable bottom material when there's an unusual current. I would think the mayfly, stone and midge population might suffer more. I would think some stocking could be done for the Scuds, if the environment is friendly, but I would imagine that while they may be gone in the "river" section, many probably survived in the transition area.

    I'm sure the effect won't be positive. Table Rock is an unnatural part of the river and can't deposit replacements for what is washed away.

    Not always, that depends on the rate of flow and the time. It takes a couple of hours for the flow to reach Powersite dam.
