  1. Lots of snags for nets in Beaver also. Some lakes have regulations stating that bait used there has to be taken there or bought from a licensed in-state dealer. Not sure about Beaver.
  2. That ramp is very steep. I wonder how many emergency brakes have failed to hold on that ramp. I won't use it in good weather. My boat is small and easy to launch and retrieve on almost any ramp. I have to immerse only the back of the hull.

    Snow!

We need about 3 inches of 60 degree rain to start the white bass run.

    Snow!

About one inch on the south end of Elkins.
  5. I fish other places too, with similar results.
  6. Dan, I have struggled as a fisherman my entire life. Sometimes I wonder why I still enjoy it. Most trips skunked, or nearly so.
  7. Too windy today for my boat. Fished from shore about an hour on west side of Monte Ne ramp at the walls. Not even a strike.
  8. Why don't you pull it out and fill up on top of the hill at a gas station or fill up from cans? Gas would be cheaper and likely fresher this time of year.
  9. What rig was it? I once got nearly spooled on a Abu 6000 on a Florida gulf pier, but I cranked down the drag and it broke the 20 lb mono. Never knew for sure what species of fish it was.
  10. Do you think you would have been spooled if you had been in your boat? Maybe saltwater tackle is in order if from shore?
  11. It is fact if the overlying hydrostatic pressure is greater than the pressure of the spring flow, a spring in a lake bottom will cease to flow. Most springs are found in valleys where the pressure of surrounding aquifer water at higher elevations forces it out of the ground. There used to be a huge spring near the present location of the Blue Springs boat ramp. We used to swim there before the lake. It was very clear and cold, and was full of sculpins. I have heard no evidence that it is still flowing.
  12. Typically, the presence of deep water over a spring formerly on land or in shallow water will cause it to shut off or greatly diminish. Some kind of temperature probe would be needed anyway to pinpoint a spring. My original post was referring to springs in shallow water feeders.
  13. I talked recently to one of the local fisheries biologists, specifically about Ozark streams, but it would hold for shallower parts of river and large creek arms in lakes as well. He said look for natural springs. They come out at about 56 degrees F. The fish congregate in this warmer water.
  14. Another cold snap now.......
  15. Sequoyah is over 30 feet deep in the old channel. That is much deeper than the feeder streams.
  16. That contraption looks dangerous. I slipped off the tongue of my trailer last year while holding the bow of my boat, and got a nasty bruise because my shoes were wet. Getting caught between those steps while falling could result in big trouble. If I get where I cannot get into the boat safely I will sell it and just dock or bank fish. A safe way to launch and board is to go where there is a courtesy dock, back the boat in, use a rope to control it to the dock and board from there after you put on the life vest. If you cannot launch it without backing off under power, your boat is too big for you.
  17. I have fished this off and on since cold weather began with no luck whatsoever. Do all the fish migrate downstream to Lake Sequoyah in winter? Visibility is about six feet now. The bottoms are rocky and littered with large boulders. There is not a fish to be seen, not even a minnow. Fish were abundant during warm months. Looks like smallmouth, crappie and warmouth would be present and at least nibble. Any insight?
  18. No convincing them by word. Only thing that would work would be consistent catches of 15 pound plus blue catfish, with an occasional 40 plus pound size.
  19. According to local guys on the Catfish1 forum, Beaver is poor for catfishing. They prefer the Arkansas river.
  20. It is a 36 mile drive for me, mostly on Hwy 303. A long way to go on crooked roads, cannot go there every day.
  21. Tanderson15: That was me in the camo xpress boat in the middle of the cove, the boat with rod holders all over. I had four rods out. Did you come by headed for the cove ramp about 1:00 pm or so? Whover it was slowed way down to no wake as they passed, which was nice.
  22. I usually don't catch much, and have not figured out why.........it is not lack of trying. Maybe I could meet one of you and get some pointers?
  23. Trying to target catfish today. Drifted three rods over the flat in RB cove 0.3-0.5 mph for about 5 hrs over 25-40 fow. Tried to stay between 30-35 mostly. Cut bait and crawlers. Caught one 20-1/2 inch channel cat on cut skipjack. Only good bite I had.
  24. What part of the lake? The 18 inchers I have caught in the river go about 2-1/2 to 3 pounds.
  25. Can you guys tell me how you are catching the catfish? They are my favorite thing to catch, and I like them better than crappie for eating. I have the tackle to handle the larger ones too. Thanks.
