When this blows out I will be back to using my Carolina rig. Shallows cooled to much for my finessing with a 8 in plastic worm. I have very few problems with the moss on it as well. Our low temperatures here are all predicted to be in the 40s. I do hope so. I just planted about 300 Inpatients and a few Begonias. I would not like to do it over.

well yeah Doc it is sort of a habit. Ever get a letter from a government office and you cannot understand it because it does not really answer your question ??? Well that is a kind of a acquired art to write that stuff. I did not really jump off topic. I just sort of seen a couple of slight mentions about things that kind of let me slide us right out of it and brag about these kids.

I cannot see why they would not be able to. If stripers feed by slashing those shad schools I am sure the bass a swimming along under them very grateful they are there. White bass and catfish have a relationship like that. Only thing is it makes the big catfish suckers for a spoon.

Old Plug would like to see it also. but they were not really very young just drunk had just left a bar and thought i was in the way of there set course.the girlfriends were younger for sure. I think the things we see in our youth today in the outdoors springs from our general attitude as a society. You see it everywhere, greed, on the highways, on the job and anywhere else. A lot of our youth is lazy as well. You just about want to give up on them. But then you see a few who are really what we want to see in our youth. I know one young man that got a 4 ur scholarship to Ohio state based on his own drive and applied intelligence. He graduated with 2 degrees. He now at the age of 21 he is 2nd Lt riding around the world in a B52. The other is a young woman 18 yrs old with the maturity of a woman much older. She just started her college education where she promptly wound up on the dean list. She also holds down a full time job ( because she was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth) that requires her to be in contact with the general public. She does that well enough that she runs the place on her own a lot of time. I know many in this community are aware of her and have high regards for her. She is going to go places thats for sure. When I see young ones like these two it make me think maybe there is some hope for the future.

what you do with trick worms can be applied to other worms and plastic baits. I have tried shaky worms on Carolina rigs and did not like it. I like something that will really flutter around in that particular application Believe me I do shake the devil out of that carolina rig. You might think I was snagged to see it. I shake it 3or 4 times then pause let it settle and do it again. It works for me around here.

I have only had few run ins on the water. Most amounted to nothing more than waving fingers back and forth. I did have one guy threaten to board me. I told him come ahead. showed him my big can of pepper spray and he reconsidered. I would have burnt his face and eyes like he would remember the rest of his life. I would have been in my rights to do it also.

I do not pay any attention to most of the jump in people in tournaments or even fishing around the dock. This past weekend we had up to 4 boats at times fishing between my dock and two neighbors. they caught a few smaller ones out of my one empty stall. But they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. So I was not worried.

Well they say you can not teach a old dog new tricks but I learned one today.

I got one and at shorter ranges it hits like a 22 rifle. Of course it will not work against some things like a Armadillo. On those i use 410 slugs. I think the new air guns could very well replace many uses of the 22 rifle. mine has a 1100 lb muzzle velocity. I have seen them advertised that have a 1300lb velocity somewhere. I think it was down at Academy in Springfield. Thats up there with medium ga shotgun loads.

bluebasser------ You would be responsible for damage caused by you in a accident. It is a not a matter of what is said it is a matter of the evidence. Ripping the rods out of the boat is the evidence. The bass boater could have also said he was mad at him and cast a plug at him. That could get him arrested on some type of assault assault charge. All the real evidence is against him Rude people on the the water are just a refection of the rudeness in our society.
-
Moguy------ That would have not worked. The best you could have hoped for would have been to get arrested and forced to pay for all his lost tackle. It could have escalated into something a lot worse. I think coach did the right thing.
-
I do not know what is reason was but I know all he had to do was throw a big wake on you and. it could have dumped. you. In missouri he would have got off stark free for doing it because boaters are not responsible for there wake up here.

I fish them and a lot of other things very lightly weighted. the past few days I have been fishing a 8" plastic worm called Dead Ringer on 3/16 and1/8 oz slip sinker on 12 lb test line. it is very finesse.type thing at 8 to 10 ft where i have been catching fish.

CHAMP198 My father belonged to a casting club in Forrest Park many years ago and did some trick casting in the Sports show that came to St louis. I learned a lot about casting from him. I agree the rod that the pro used I think delivered with a slower action. I think that is the key to the whole long rod light bait deal. I do not see rods like that much any more everything seems to be fast tip that I see on the shelves. When watching fishing on TV however I do see these guys using these Ducket Rods that are bending from the handle to the tip. There used to be a name for that action and I think it was called Caraboly or something of that sort. I can see in rods like that a rod that is powerful because of its length yet slower and gentler than the whip snappy fast tips. Those kind of rods are a bit harder to cast accurately as I recall. I will say this though if I was a tournament fisherman or really cared about landing every fish I most certainly would want one of those rods. They got to be very hard for a fish to get off of. I got a notion that is why I see them all using them.

buy yourself a jar of Crappie Nibbles to go with the jigs or Road Runners. They can be a big help.

Dave I do bot think that is what they see. But they might see a way to employ out of work reservist. The program is called active duty for training( or it was last time I was around it 20 years ago) . They do not like government employees because they cannot be marched the same way you do a platoon. All this gate closing and such is already in their budget. and if its not there they can dig into the grandest apple pie of them all---- Discretionary spending. It bet it was nothing more than some little engineers idea to impress the big engineer. Then when you realize how half a--- the big engineer is you will understand how these thing happen. they blow a big pile of money with such thinking. Believe me I seen close to 40 yrs of this kind of stuff. And it is very prevalent in the DOD Dept. of Defense. If you all are really serious about this you will do it as a Group maybe even petitioning and getting the press involved. I posted something about this on the other gate closings. Zero is what will happen if a couple of you contact you congressman. I know just how that works. I have written many statements for your glorious leaders to " to incorporate into a reply for their constituents" You need to display a fighting attitude and a determination to push it. Often people make the mistake of thinking you or asking for his help. To hell with that get a bunch together and demand he do something about it. Just be sure have dotted your I's and crossed your T's about the law and situation. I am sure if you make a big enough stink they will smell it. As far as the gate goes I would imagine security cameras would have been as good. As far as stopping anyone from going in there to steel there is boats you know. That is a problem around here at times. Really to me it smells like there is some other motive or motives and the theft gave them the excuse to do this.

A 7-3 rod with a light small bait might be a headache for many casters. Its a backlash setup the making unless you have the experience to handle it. From what I have read about McClelland this is something he is accustom to.

The big dead ringer it is 8 in long. I do not night fish anymore. I only use the dead ringer in the spring when they first start getting excited about the spawn. I sort of move work it slowly on a 3/16 oz slip sinker. I guess it is something like jumbo finesse fishing. I got 4 keepers yesterday in about 20 minutes all right to get together around this one dock. I never had that happen before. All were between 15 and 16 inches nothing to write home about. I got 3 more today her if you want to count the 14 in Kentucky as well. Most of the bass I am catching by far or large mouth and about a foot long. That is a real encouraging sign to me.

I do not know about other areas but we get ours in the late evening till yesterday. Then yesterday we had 3 boats sitting off the docks all day. They did catch a few out of my stall. I tend to think it was all the disturbance that put them down. In the late evenings we were not catching them on the beds anyway. We were casting out into deeper water next to the beds catching them when they rose out there. I and my neighbor have been doing this for years around here. They usually run bigger. A lot of patterns work for bass right now. I have been using a 8 in Zoom dead ringer rigger Texas style. weighted with a 1/8 or 3/16 oz slip sinker. Very slow retrieve.
