  1. Must have not checked where i did. I checked several. I liked what I saw but they got to be sturdy. But at that price i could have bought 1/2 dozen and switched parts if they failed. The expensive version of that real has been around down south for awhile. That one I did not find any fault with. I seen a breakdown of it on i think U tube and i like the way it broke down. Would be easy to clean. I will wait and see what comes out about them on here. I do like a simpler reel with less parts however.
  2. I was tempted to try it. But I will wait. I have these old Garcia's and they have really stood the test of time. They go out nearly every day For at least 2 hours almost every day from march through september. Outside of that time I am mostly into spinning reels. They been going on now at least 15 to 18 yrs. I do clean them and I oil them every few times I am out. I hope those you bought will do that for you.
  3. I and my son are going to try to get in a 1 day trip to beaver next summer. He is a swimming pool contractor and starts working all hours from mid march thru october with rarely a day off. So we are going to hire a guide.i was told that the best fishing for stripers is down in the darn area during the summer months. We are not to thrilled about trolling we both like to deep jig. Anyone know any good guides.
  4. They should be down to 19.95. I read about them on the internet. Google up H20 reels. Also that one down there is ia a plastic frame. Lot of bad reports on it on the internet.
  5. I and my son or going to try to get in a one day trip down to Beaver this next summer. He us a swimming pool contractor and is busy and on call from Mid March thru October. Since i know nothing about Beaver I want to know when the best tine is during e summer period. I know someone that goes down there ana jig them deep in the first 6 mikes above the darn. I think we ill fo it with a guide anyone know a good one and the best time.
  6. I have a hard time with gloves anything. Hate something on my hands I used to fish a lot in winter over at lake coffeen in ILL. I have fished as low as 18 degrees without gloves. Now if its below below 40 I cannot fish without gloves on. so i just do not do it.
  7. Kayser------ water temperature can slightly effect suspension. That is one of the advantages of the lead strips, it allows you to make quick adjustments. I do not like a perfect suspension anyway. I like a slow rise. you might try putting your lead on in different places on the lure you can effect its action action and the way it rises. Like anything else your going to need to play and practice with it.
  8. Well wrench i might just tie up some wooly worms or something that i can still cast with that light rod and we will be going down there. I bought some stick o worms down at pro bass that are only 3 " long and about 1/4" in dia. I was going to put a 1/16 oz crappie jig thru the thick end of them and roll them over the bottom. Looks like something a trout would like. I bet small mouth would hook up on that also in the streams.
  9. I miss read them I will not be going down there now.
  10. I was down at pro bass yeasterday. I bought every pack of stic o worms in the 53/8 size inthe frost colorthat were on the rack. They got a real shad color about them. I tend tolean more towards that than white. I start with them pretty early just like early flukes.fish them that way also.
  11. I am headed down to Bennett sometime this winter. I am not a flyer rodder thought. I am intending on taking 7 ft rod and some small plastic worms and over soft baits plus a couple of tiny crank baits I use for crappie now and then. Get skunked or not I will do my rolling over the bottom thing. I used to catch some trout years ago in the Huzzah creek. Always bottom rolling plastic.
  12. Yeah I bet you are Al thats getting close to your backyard.
  13. Bfoshin-----I have gone dancing with my wife now and then at our Elks Lodge. I have also been to dance in a room filled with people that could not hear any of it. I think the first time I danced with my wife up at the lodge half the room sat there open mouthed.
  14. I have no idea myself about bands. Do these bands cause problems and attract the wrong kind of people. ????? The last band i heard was Lawrence Welk I think. Matter of fact i have not heard a thing in about 50 yrs and after looking at that list of bands I can only wonder if maybe I am not missing anything.
  15. If there was a big drug problem there that may the reason for the change. I am not real sure of this but i did not think that state park rangers had the the same authority as officiers of the law as a conservation agent does. Is that true.
  16. They have been around for awhile in Missouri. They have traveled all the way thru the St louis Area. I have heard they follow along on the main rivers. They have been confirmed here at the lake but tend to move on quickly. Another hot area is wildwood. My son has several pool customers out there and has seen conservation agents out there on several occasions. But I think it is the same thing. Here today gone tomorrow. I am waiting fir the real destructive animal to make itself known in St Louis county. Mr Armadillo will just love your well kept lawns.
  17. Well you guys driving all over getting out in the cold and all that. We do not do that here at LOZ Here the deer hunt us. Sometimes I think we are the minority. This year they have pretty nice racks. We have a ten pointer around here and at least one more 8. Also have a pair of albino Does about 2 yrs old. I have seen them twice. I think they are being protected and fed there. But they are not confined. Seems like other deer do not like to associate with them i seen a couple does charge them.
  18. AL---- i am right behind you about jet boats and the spawn. And I mean anywhere river or lake.
  19. Bfishin------i do not think brain has much to do with it I believe but smell sure does. wrench------Yeah I agree about the plastic worms 1000 percent. Plus they are so very versatile. The angler fish knows that also. He has the original shakey head worm in his mouth. He never seems to get skunked either. You know what i think that trolling motor thing is. The high electrical winning of the prop. Plus you got to wonder if there is not some sort of electrical impulse or such stuff that can be emitted by a troller. Mitch------ Your the scientific guy. How about you conduct a little study and see if a troller emits something and break it down to hillbilly language that some of us can understand.
  20. Well i do not think it does. I was only saying that if the fish in that one group were taken and not returned. Other than that if it is some spot that is attractive to bass then there will be more. But it might be sometime before you will find 1/2 dozen group there. That is something that I do not understand. How a place can produce big bass for a few years then nothing but small ones for several years. Maybe they just move on but then why don't more hogs move in????? It must have something to do with either relationships or habits. They might just all return to that place at that time from seasonal habit. It is a mystery to me. I judt start looking again.
  21. I would think in the case of a group of large Black bass that by reason of season are bunched up in some small spot that a guy could drop night crawlers down there and take most of them MAYBE if he took a couple then rested it then went back to it. Most spots like that or wintertime anyway and I think they would be much more inclined to something like a fresh big crawler just laying there wiggling. The group might be pretty small as well maybe 1/2 dozen fish.
  22. You are nit connected to HUD in any way are you LOL. A under secretary of HUD called my son in law a couple weeks back and requested he come to Washington for a month to work on the Obama care programs. They were organizing a task force if nationally known programmers. He is a hotshot at that stuff and must have a pretty good national reputation that I was not aware of. He turned them down
  23. LEE G------- i have no doubt there would be some with the pressure. But Mitch and Al hit it when it was quiet and deserted. The timing was perfect I believe.
  24. In any given spot it might. But I tell you the truth Mitch the older and more time I have on the water the more convinced I become that when a fish hits any kind of lure they are in a active mode. I do not care what it looks like smells like or anything else there is no way a fish is fooled into thinking it is forage if they are not in a active mode. I had a situation like that about a month ago. This long cove nearby is a magnet for shad in the fall. They were so thick back there you could see shad flipping all the way across the cove for several hundred foot. I was working the dock corners because I knew kentuckies loved to ambush shad from those spots. I was doing just fine for small ones. But out further in the cove there were some good splashing and wakes made by larger bass chasing shad. I thought well maybe I can nail a couple. I went through 6 or 8 lures and never got a one hit. On several occasions I got a cast in front of the charging wake just to see the bass pass it and smack a shad close by. That is an example of selective feeding if I eve seen one. And they do that a lot.
  25. Want to add ------- I would say from the last couple of reported trips by Mitch and AL that just maybe there has not been a real decline in the Meramec. Some of you guys I think have the feel of fishing be it river or lake. And thats what really does it,is a feel for it. Almost all of you however, still have a lot of responsibility in life and are working 40 hrs a week and can not pick and choose your times like I and some others some others can. That can make a difference in success rate thereby reflecting on a streams fishing quality. Often when you can get out you got to compete with all that floating and stuff going on and it is going interfere with your fishing. Also the majority of the smallmouth anglers that just are just out there pitching lures around with no idea of what they are really doing they in turn bad mouth the stream.
