  1. The website is www.skillsusa.org if anyone is interested in more info about it. Its a great organization for todays technical college students. Theres also a video there of the awards ceremony or you can google skillsusa 2015 national championships. Its a long ceremony, the culinary arts is towards the last 30-45 mins.
  2. Well i know there is varying opinions on this subject but i thought id share the results. A while back i posted about getting ready for a national competition at the college level. Last week was the competition which was in Louisville, Ky. I have to say for being the 16th largest city in the U.S. it was ok (i dont really like big citys). We did have some good food though. Anyway i do these things mainly to learn and push myself but it would be a lie if i said i dont enjoy the competitive side also. There ended up being 27 competitores and i ended up earning a spot on stage recieving the silver medal. It was a once in a life time experience and one that i learned an extensive amount from. It happened to be pretty profitable in scholarships and knife sets. I do know one thing...its nice to be home.
  3. Lol...im in lousiville for another day but cant wait to get back home i have a few spots that should be full right now

  5. Trythis....they are chanterelle mushrooms. Pretty easy to identify but there is a couple look a likes...mainly the jackolantern that grows in dead wood. Chanterelles grow from the ground, when they are cut off the stem is white and they have false gills that look like ridges. Dont take my word though...look it up. But if the are chanterelles then they are delicous. Also the jackolanterns have real gills and make you very sick.
  6. All you have to do is be willing to believe and ask God to do the rest. Believing in God requires us to give up things that we just dont want to give up. Once a person is willing to do those two things God will do the rest!
  7. I personaly never got to meet Jim but felt like i knew him all my life by the way he helped and spoke to all of us here. I know that i will meet him one day as I too have Jesus as my personal savior. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
  8. Roasted potatoes but very crappy knife skills...
  9. Thats what i ment and do but i didnt explain it real well. Thanks lowe
  10. Ive used and app before...they work ok but i would just use it for a little bit to get familuare with how fast your going. The apps drain your battery quite a bit
  11. Ive had multiple crappie eaten on fellows by muskie. Was bass fishing one day on th east en bluffs and hooked a good largemouth and she really put on a show. The second time coming out of the water on me she never made it back on her own. As the bass come out of the water it shook its head and spit my jig and at that very instant a very large muskie come up and very gracefully took care of the very nice 4lb ish bass. It was an awsome thing to see. Wish i had a camera on it. Now before anyone has a fit about muskie and bass and yada yada the only reason im telling this is because it was a once in a life time moment and it relates to what was said. Please dont turn this into a free for all on opinions of muskie and bass.
  12. I should have said wherever the shad are is where you want to be, which other than in the hot part of the day the shad will be on the flats somewhere and the cats will be right there with them especially when the males start coming off the nest. Thats the best bite all year imo. Good luck!
  13. Nice hunter! I havent been able to go as much this year but ive got a few so far. It should be HOT on the flats in a couple weeks.
  14. Good find billet...i cant wait to get back out
  15. They were mostly just little bity...do you think the cinnabars will last until wed?
  16. Went and checked some places that i hunt morels and found a few 2 in gold chantrelles and a bunch more little ones and then come into a patch pf hundreds of tiny red chantrelles. Hope they are cause there was a ton of them. Im gonna go back wed and check them
  17. Great info slab as always!
  18. Im going to look tomorrow. Ive never hunted for them so im completely starting from scratch but i think i have some good places to start
  19. Thanks wilson for the info!
  20. Billet i love pickeled stuff and smoked products but i dont know about eggs...but...you have talked about them enough to at least intrigue me enough to make some and try them. Tonight was taco night here. I cheat and use the seasonings with browned boston burger and onions...my secret thougb that makes it such a hit with my girls is when adding the liquid i put in one bottle of mexican villa sweet sauce and a .25 cup or so of water and bring to a simmer and reduce until desired thickness. Its a lazy dish but its really dang good.
  21. Ive done a lot of fishing and catch a few but ive not really night fished with lights. Where do you set up...in the middle of coves or on points? What lights do you use?
  22. Man gentlemen we need to pick it up....since rps is outta town its pretty quiet. I made so flatbread pizza last night but forgot to take pics. Maybe ill do some of those fisk cakes tonight.
  23. Not all flatheads will spawn that early but most will. The females can also lay multiple sacs of eggs. After laying eggs the females will get ran off by the males because they will eat the eggs. This is mainly with channels and blues but female flats will too. After the females get ran off the generally hit he flats and gorge on shad. Then about 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 weeks after peak spawn you really want to be on the flats cause the males who havent been eating basicly at all for 2-3 weeks will be hunting non stop for a solid week. The round about pattern is why the cat bite is really hot fo a good portion of the late spring early summer. Even in the dog days its good just really early or after dark.
  24. It all really depends on what you want to catch. If i were you i would be catfishing right now. I use light line and rods for added difficulty but a med. Rod with 10lb test berkly smooth cast would do great. Go to the flats north of aldrich or any rocky bank around high point and throw out a night crawler with a decent size hook and a sinker about a foot above it and drift down the bank with the wind dragging your worm behind you. Since no trolling motor and your just wanting to have fun and catch some fish this is the route id go this time of year. Its easy and you can catch quite a few right now...hold on to your poll though cause those cats can nail it pretty hard
  25. Channels and blues spawn between 70-80 degree but 76-80 is ideal...flatheads spawn between 65-75 with around 70 being ideal. What most dont realize and why the wait to open spearing season so late is a male cat after the females lay the eggs will guard the nest extensivly for two weeks or so till the fry hatch and another week after they hatch. A male will not hunt or eat during this time and will only bite to protect. Flatheads spawn first then blues and channels. The channels on stockton are just now starting. When the bite shuts off around rocks and rip rap the males are guarding and the females are back to the flats. I follow this pattern every year. Hope you all can go gef some they are going crazy in some parts right now.
