I think this one has been out of the water a couple years actually

Trout hollow has one that needs some work that I think he would sell for a couple hundred bucks

Wading yes, rafting no. If you wanna be in a boat get one from lilleys. They are pretty cheap to rent and Phil, Duane and Ryan are great guys and they will put you on fish with great advice.

What a beautiful fish!! Great job. Gotta love the jerkbait bite.

Fall Creek Gravel Bar - Pictures

Is this going to be passable at all with the water off? Did short creek change at all? -

This thread has gotten funny. Here's what I do...fish close to the dock I'm at till the fog burns off then I head up lake taking in the sights and smells and waving to every boat I see just enjoying my favorite place on earth. Then as I'm running down river back to the dock I wave at every boat I see, take in the sights and smells of one of the most magical places on earth while counting down the days and hours till I can get back to her. Then I put the boat on the trailer and pull it home for 5 hours while not speaking a word to my wife because I'm pissed we left then I park the boat in my garage in south central kansas and ask myself everyday for 2 weeks usually while the hell I live here and don't sell and pack everything and move down to be with my river mistress and her sights and smells. Dramatic....yes but darn do I love that lake

beautiful fish, thanks for sharing. with this water running this long they have certainly been living high on the hog, we should be able to reap the rewards of this for several years to come, especially in the trophy area.

For the record one of my favorite things about Taney is the fog. How neat is that place, with the fog, the cool air pockets, the smells of honeysuckle. It's heaven on earth to me and my favorite place in the entire world and the fog is part of her majestic beauty!

I'm the one that started the guide complaint so I would like to say publicly it was not Mr. Babler. I've been on this forum since the day it started and enjoy Bill's posts, especially when he gets fired up. He's kind of a celebrity here in my office that I work in, in Kansas. So I always know him when I see him on Taney. Someday I'll get the nerve to stop and say Hi, always wanted to meet him and shake his hand and shoot the bull. Anyhow Bill, I know what you and your boat (boats now) look like and you weren't the problem at all. And I'm NOT going to name the guide no way no how not gonna hurt someone's business. As stated that's my dream job is to guide on Taney so I'm not about to call a guy out. Bill is right 99% of the guides are awesome on that lake, but this one fellow I was really disappointed in but I'm keeping his identity to myself, he's got mouths to feed as well. By the way my observation was the week/weekend of July 4th and not yesterday. As stated I've been coming there 30 years and I know exactly what I'm getting into by getting on the lake on a holiday weekend. I wasn't complaining at all, I caught a ton of fish and had a blast as always. Just was an observation. For that 1 guide there were 25 other baffons that I didn't know who they were, I just happen to know this guy cause I love fishing the Ozarks and follow them vicariously thru here and facebook.

When I was there a couple weeks ago it was horrible. I've been on that lake for close to 30 years and it was as bad as I have ever seen. I had one guide whom I know his name and respected before this trip come by on plane about 40 mph on 3 different mornings that I was just shocked and how fast and dumb he was acting going that speed. He was in a big fiberglass boat, and fishes the landing area where there is already a ton of folks anyhow. I won't even name the brand out of respect although I lost mine for the guy. This was 4th of July weekend already which mean there was a lot of people running boats that don't own or operate a boat much already on the water. Rant over......anyhow here is what I do on foggy mornings, I try to wait if I can but if I think I need to go out, I always go at idle or barely above, I always use my lights (which I saw very little of), I always wear my auto inflatable life vest. When I'm shut down fishing while foggy, I try to stay close to the bank or dock. I try to avoid he middle of the lake if it's extremely foggy for the reason that there is always someone running. I feel like if I'm close to a dock or bank there is a better chance that people will be going down the middle. Having an air horn or whistle close by isn't the worst idea in the world. I'm not a guide basher, my dream job since I was 8 years old was to be a guide on Taneycomo and Taneycomo only. Just this one particular guy I was floored by the way he was acting but I have a ton of respect for them so I won't elaborate any further.

Compilation from last night's trip
Travis Swift replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
one of your best videos ever......."dead goose".....I laughed ALOT. -
that's good info thanks everyone. I thought that's what it looked like but I wasn't sure if it was branson or Hollister and there doesn't seem to be any signs or anything.

it actually looked like a roped off parking area down by that stone house. I had never noticed it before?
-
I noticed a couple weeks ago when I was there that at the mouth of Turkey creek there is a stone house on the right hand side with a bench out front by the water. it appears to have a parking area behind the house and I saw multiple people fishing there. Have they turned this into a park with public access to fish where the mouth of turkey and taney meet?

So What's the Prognosis for Tomorrow the 4th?
Travis Swift replied to Bimmer's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Water looks great and fish are biting. Scuplin peach, sculpin ginger and white all on 1/8th ounce jigs have done the trick for me. Tons of boat traffic so take it easy and have fun -
Not sure how much rain we got but woke up to this mess!

Lilleys' Taneycomo Fishing Report, June 30
Travis Swift replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Woke up this morning to no fog. So I made the 19 minute run to the dam. First cast I caught an 18 inch rainbow right at the cable on a white jig. Caught several more on another drift with a sculpin/peach. Wind made it terrible hard to feel the bites. Decided to take a page out of Phils book of tricks and explore for some slack water. My new Tracker will drift shallow so I went up the slough by pointe royale. Bingo...quality rainbows and tons of them. You can see them and they can see you. You have to be in stealth mode almost like hunting. Long casts, light line and being super quiet I was able to catch some really beautiful 18 inch bows that were fat and full of color. Get a few fish and the gig is up though. Went back to the eddie behind look out and caught several really quality fish there as well. Cloud cover really helped this morning and the chop on the water helped for the back water fish to not be as spooky. Stopped by lilleys on my run back down river to stock back up on scuplin/peach and shoot the breeze with Phil....no Phil on the dock but got my jigs atleast they have run so much water of late that it's not rocket science, find some slack water out of the current and they are there. -
Lilleys' Taneycomo Fishing Report, June 30
Travis Swift replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Phil I'm clueless also this is the first time in almost 30 years of fishing taneycomo that I've fished that far. I'll give up se more info in saying that I'm catching them on the resorts/kanaku camp side so far. I couldn't get anything going on the other side. I'm suprise by the numbers and size though both have been adequate to me. Last evening I caught about 20 to 25 in the last hour of light up to about 16 inches on the trout magnet. Took the family on a joy ride to Rockaway beach tonight. I had never been there. I found where the gold mine is located so i may try it tomorrow. Pretty interesting on the way back we found a spoonbill of nearly 40 pounds floating dead. I'll post pictures when I get a chance. -
Lilleys' Taneycomo Fishing Report, June 30
Travis Swift replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I would like to piggy back this report if Phil doesn't care. I found alot of fish Monday at the mouth of turkey creek but not back in it. Trout magnet under a float was best followed by a white 1/8th ounce jig. Also trying lower taney for the first time and I'm finding alot of nice fish from Roark down to Bee creek fishing a trout magnet as well as an 1/8th ounce jig. Today I was able to find some fish between the bridges this morning all on a 1/8th ounce jig as well. This afternoon I ran up to the cable and caught a few nice fiah on 1/8th ounce jigs. The slack water created by look out island is holding a ton of fish as well. On my 1/8th ounce jigs the sculpin and peach with an orange head is out fishing white 10 to 1 although the white trout magnet is my go to bait and color down stream in the slower water. Hope this helps, here the rest of the week so I'll report back in. -
