  1. Since you fellas are on the topic of old man tackle, any clue what I have here? My Dad literally bought everything he ever fished from Grandpa Pigeons and most of it was cheap generic cr@p (and this might be too!) but this one seems a little more interesting. I have yet to throw it since I added the skirt (the old one was rock solid and dry rotted) but I figured I would ask you old guys what the hell it is first!
  2. Nice! Even though it is helpful fishing with someone else in the boat so you can narrow down what works best, figuring it out on your own certainly makes you feel much better!
  3. Sure you should repost the picture though? Some people might drop what they're doing and head to that exact spot and ruin it for everyone else.
  4. I will honestly never get sick of seeing this pig. Hell of a fish and glad it is still swimming.
  5. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the fishing kayaks in Jackson's lineup. The hi/lo seating and the ability to have your posterior above your feet make it much easier to stay on the water longer and you don't get what I like to call "kayak butt" where your legs and posterior fall asleep every hour or so. What they don't get right on the first generation model they always correct on the next model year. The stability is also fantastic and you can stand comfortably after a couple times out in the boat. There are aftermarket companies that sell trolling motor kits (Bassyaks,Yakattack, etc.) and and equal amount of clever DIY guys doing it themselves. I believe the Mayfly is also Micro Power Pole Ready so I am sure adding a trolling motor mount wouldn't be that difficult.
  6. I am taking a wild guess and saying Jerry fishes in/around that area and he is worried about all of us bums heading out that way?
  7. Just make sure you don't let it shake you off
  8. That is exactly what mine does. It really does cast well for an entry level fly rod. I was also surprised the cork grips were just as nice as some of my higher end casting rods. @dave potts I got an offer for 50 for that case you were asking about so I went ahead and sold it to him, sorry!
  9. Bump. Hitting ebay or CL if still here by the end of the week. text me for pics....three 1 4 - 541-3627
  10. Checking out Redington might be a good idea as well. Redington is owned by a holding company that also owns Sage and Rio (two great fly fishing companies). I haven't personally tried them but their price point seems pretty similar to what you are looking for and the darn things look and feel almost identical to all the others.
  11. I have a barely used Redington Crosswater 5WT that is great for anyone looking to start fly-fishing. It is a 4 piece rod and comes with a hard sided carrying case. It is already loaded with Rio Camolux fly line and am happy to throw in all my extra leaders and tippets as well. I also have around 1500 flies (for local Missouri waters: mostly trout and some bass) from various places (Orvis, Feathercraft, Bass Pro, and Hargroves) and several really nice fly boxes. One of the fly boxes comes with the line threader pieces (I am sure there is some technical term for this ) that make it a lot easier to thread on small flies. I will add some pictures tonight when I get home for anyone that might be interested. I just hate to see it gather dust due to the fact I just didn't get that into fly fishing. Someone else should definitely be out there enjoying it! I also have a bunch of misc fly fishing stuff as well (books, floats, fly tying vice and box, etc.) Not sure what a good price for all of this might be so I am open to any offers. I think I probably paid something like 150 for the fly rod, 75 for the fly line, and probably around $1 a piece for each fly but I am open to any offers.
  12. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
  13. I picked up a pair of Patagonia wade boots for 60 something bucks a couple years ago at Hargroves. Just bought them because they were cheap but I love them. If they didn't smell like river muck I might even wear them to work! It seems like they are rare as hen's teeth for that price but if you are in the STL area, you can usually find some killer deals on that discount/old model year rack at Hargroves. There are usually some waders/boots/jackets etc. on there from time to time.
  14. I can definitely see why the pedal drives and retrofitted trolling motor kits are becoming more popular for kayaks. Coordinating a shuttle or getting a buddy to go with me is sometimes the biggest hurdle when it comes to going out on a day trip. Having the ability to go upstream (or downstream for that matter) quicker and more efficiently will definitely open up some more water for some people. Perhaps I am just trying to justify my desire to buy the new Coosa FD when it comes out this spring... Anyone on OAF fit a trolling motor to their kayak yet? The kits are out there but they cost more than the kayaks. Have been looking for some different ideas for a long time but haven't seen one that I really like just yet.
  15. My Jeep has the "Homelink" button (basically 3 buttons that can be programmed for different garage doors) in the overhead console. I have seen people buy lights that come with a wireless key fob (I believe they were Pilot brand fog lights) and sync them up with their "Homelink" and toss the remote. Now they can use one of the Homelink buttons to turn on and off fog lights or in your case, reverse lights. I may do this with some rock lights eventually so if I break down on a trail I will be able to see and I wouldn't have to worry about running wires for a switch.
  16. I believe they will but I think you have to send them in. I don't think BPS or Cabela's will let you just go in there and swap them out like you can with their house brands.
  17. I would just add some LED lights like J-Doc said. I would check these out. https://www.oznium.com/led-bolt I added some stainless steel ones to my landscaping trailer and wired them into my reverse lights like J-doc said. It is insanely bright and eliminated all my blind spots. I am even adding the smaller ones to my kayak because I like them so much. I would also suggest adding plug in play LED lights in your reverse lights. My Jeep had some of the crappiest reverse lights and they didn't illuminate anything. I found some plug and play LED bulbs that were a direct replacement for the stock ones and now they cast a nice white glow directly on the front of the trailer so I can see just about anything.
  18. I second what Wrench said. Brought in a pair that had a leaky seam and got a brand new pair. They aren't that bad either TBH.
  19. I have floated the Black in the Spring with @MOsmallies several times before. We have only had one solid year and a bunch of crappy ones. We went in April a couple times and I think we even went once in May and always seem to be there the weekend before the action starts (with the exception of our first year). We have also had to cancel several times due to some high water events. MOsmallies fishes the Black a handful of times every year and knows how to fish it well. When he is struggling down there, I know the fish are hard to come by. If you do like the challenge, go for it. Like I said, we did have one great year with a ton of decent smallmouth! We always had a blast staying at the Parks Bluff Campground (it was always empty) and using Franklin float for a shuttle if we didn't do it ourselves. Not trying to discourage your trip to the Black but rather to prepare you for some of the Spring time crap you will have to put up with there. There are definitely some better options out there for a good Spring time float. I would suggest the Gasconade and using Rt. 66 Canoe Rental to shuttle. I stayed at a campground near Round Spring (I think?) but I can't remember the name of the place!
  20. Congrats to @Mitch f @Smalliebigs @MOsmallies & @hogwally! Mike really knocked it out of the park on the website design. Super easy to navigate and find what you need. Wish you guys nothing but the best in your new business. I will do everything I can to spread the word!
  21. I spend an insane amount of time and money on things to keep me warm in the winter (not bragging, just hate being cold). I run an outdoor ice rink so I am often outside on the coldest of cold days. I, like most people here have found that a good capilene base layer (Patagonia or Simms) followed by a flannel or merino wool shirt and a warm fleece (Patagonia R4 for me) and down coat (Eddie Bauer First Ascent), with a hard shell (Eddie Bauer First Ascent) on top is hard to beat. I just wear a pair of flannel pajama pants under my snowboarding pants and it keeps my lower half warm plus I don't need to take off 8 things just to take a piss like the bib guys do! I tape hand warmers to my wrist and throw an adhesive heating back pad on my back and I am darn near sweating in single digits. A good hat and a buff also go a long way in keeping the dome warm too! My feet are usually the reason I have to go in after awhile but after spending 30 bucks on some wigwam socks, I don't get scared back inside as often. My boots are from a brand called Forsake and they are sneaker boots and they keep my feet warm and completely dry in just about any condition and they are extremely comfortable. For gloves, I just buy some cheap neoprene waterproof gloves from Walmart to use near water when my hands need warming and I have some gore-tex mittens I can put on if I really need it. I used to use one of those vintage metal handwarmers but haven't been able to find a good one since I lost mine a couple years ago. Anyone use those anymore?
  22. @Phil Lilley I sent you an email with some pricing options. Let me know if you don't get it for some reason.
  23. I saw this on Facebook. I sent it to a friend of mine to have it blown up a little to put in a frame. It is such an amazing visual.
  24. I had borrowed a friends GPS but never took the time to figure out how to use it properly. The only thing I had to go on was what Andy had told me. That explains a lot actually, haha. I was like wow, we are making pretty good time.
  25. I may have to do that. I was preoccupied going by that one but I find it fascinating that nobody gives a dung about all that oil, antifreeze, and gas just leaking into the water. i will say that there are some days I want to drive my Jeep off a cliff like that!
