Where are all the bees and hummingbirds?? I'm in the garden every morning, every evening. There's over a dozen different flowering plants. I have a hummingbird feeder hanging. I have not seen a bird this month. Last month I had 2. Bees, pretty much non existent. We live in Ozark county MO. The clover was blooming this month, no bees in it, I have honey suckle, two kinds, not a single bumble bee,or any bee kind in sight . Something is seriously wrong. No bees on the tomatoes either. I've been hand pollinating and using blossom set hormone because of this. My neighbors have the same problem. I talked to a friend who lives 5 miles away, no humming birds, no bees at their place either..

Belgium Giant report. All good π 12 gorgeous plants all loaded with flowers, some have already set. I counted an average of 60 flowers per plant, now they wont all set and make fruits, but at least half will , thats been the average in the past. So the first harvest should be in about 80 days give or take. Best tomatoes Ive ever tasted, and definitely worth the time and effort. As you can see I try not to prune the suckers this early in the year. More branches, more tomatoes has been my experience. Late in the year they get heavy pruning. Until then its just some defoliation when necessary. (The chicken wire is there to keep my cats out , they will keep the woodland critters away too, have never had a squirrel or rabbit or deer problem with 4 predators patrolling the yard) Sweethearts report All good π There are a few clusters of green fruits now hiding in there. My fiirst time growing this kindπ . Will see how they taste in a just few weeks! Watermelon patch is off to a slow start, had to make a soil ph adjustment and that should help speed things along now.

So much for early corn, that severe thunderstorm that came rushing in around dark last night pushed all my corn flat onto the ground. Doubt it will stand back up, maybe the weeds and grass cushioned the fall, haha, other than that and losing a few 7' Holly Hocks , some tall marigold branches that broke off, the tomatoes ,peppers, and zucchini rode out the 65-70+ winds. Back yard is littered with Oak pieces. I've just got the one zucchini plant but she's beautiful. 2 or 3 of these a week is plenty for me Will have a mater update soon.

Prefer bqq burgers plain, or maybe some cheese sometimes .keep it simple and delicious. Sauce and seasoned meat. They had some amazing looking corn at the store so I grabbed some. Got the zucchini fries from the garden. Ranch dip. And a piece of raw onion that was left over from breakfast.

Tied down the mater vines, gave them some neem and copper sulfate water ,did my weekly spray of organic base fungicide mix for molds, caterpillars ,flies, and mites ,and other critters because they are out and hungry! I'll post some pics next week of these plants. Picked 3 zucchini. Watered the melon patch. Planted ,24 watermelon seeds, 23 sprouted. Put out a jug of sun tea, because there's actually some sun today. Made homemade lemonade too. It's for American Honey Liber Tea this evening. π»

They were hard to find today, water was brown, had some clouds, yet still had to use a fluorocarbon leader to get more bites. . I caught them 10' deep , 1' deep, and everywhere in between. Right next to the bank as soon as it hits the water, some were deeper on the bottom, and others were suspended in just inches of water away from the bank., when I finally found a big school spawning I anchored and put a hurtin' on em. Average size was big. Had 2 on that were humongous get away. Either one would have been a new personal best. One straightened my hook as I tried to steer it away from the cover. The other fish broke the line in the brush. When they are that big, they are extremely fast too. They kicked up the mud and boiled the water. I mean they were full grown beasts! Red was the best color today. 1/32 jigs and powerbait. The majority were this bigπ

Thank you for the fish report There still has to be an early topwater bite shallow somewhere in the back of a creek. I was just digging through my buzzbaits changing out old skirts, sharpening hooks, and thinking about going this week and get on the water before daylight.

Things are growing. Finally. Coldest Spring we've had in a very very long time. 45Β° yesterday morning,48Β° this morning and it's practically June now. I waited several weeks longer than anticipated to transplant these Belgium tomatoes, but it worked out didn't lose a single this time, and they are vigorous ! If they are happy ,I'm happy π they should be gigantic this year, plenty of space to grow, and I'm using really good dirt this year instead of amended yard dirt like the last few years. I want to see alot of that fencing covered in green and pink. This one I think is stunted. Had cold feet for a month, many nights in the forties or under. It's way too bushy for a Belgium Giant. Has a few flowers. Still it looks happy, so I'm happy. Actually surprised it lived because the other one I put out early didn't make it. Zucchini is happy, there's a baby zuc in there, lots of blooms forming inside behind the leaves. The heart shaped leaves are pretty cool. Jalapenos are still making a bunch of flower sites, but slow growing, I think if we ever get a few days of 80Β°+ will make a huge difference . By August the plants should be huge and awesome! Happy in it's little 3 gal pot. Made a raised bed for a watermelon patch, Sugar Baby kind. When it starts growing I'll share some pics.

Fished 8-11:30 WT 72 2' visibility Went to a different spot today. Started out crappie fishing.. They were stacked on this tree. I'd fish it for about fifteen minutes, catch seven or eight, leave and go fish for bluegill and bass for a half hour or so and then revisit the tree. Caught 29 crappie off that thing. Most of them were short 7-9" but some were bigger 10-10. 1/2" Same jigs and depths and presentation I've been using all month. Didn't keep anything this time . little girl spawned out,all of them were post spawn and no belly. Bass fishing was slow, I picked one area and committed to the shallow bite. And they were shallow,3'or less on wood, laydowns on wacky rig senkos. Caught 4 today. one was about 3 lbs. The other three 13-14". All largemouth post spawn. Saw two bass beds, one had a fish on it, the other was vacant. In between the bass and crappie I had some pretty big numbers on the bluegill, not jumbo but big enough to eat for sure. Found them in the back of a pocket in 1-3fow on gravel bottom. Micro jigs with powerbait, panther Martin spinners.

On a low water year yes you could see Gill beds easily . Not so much now with all the bushes. It's possible if you got in the back of a creek and found some flat areas you may be able to see some on the screen. Right now they are behind all the bushes next to the bank so scanning them would be impossible. Crappie have really been bunched up in large numbers this month, and hungry! Thanks for reporting,we need more participation! -
Tomatoes are in their new homes ,, finally. π€ Corn is about 8" tall. Zucchini is getting huge but no blooms yet. Jalapenos are blooming.

Fished 1-4 Overcast, light rain. WT 69-70 Caught 25 ,17 keepers, took home 15 ,no big ones, just 10-10 3/4" black crappie. Same place lures and presentation as the last time. Somewhat shallower than last time 2-4' over 7-12fow. I saw several bite my jig dangling over the side of the boat about 2 foot down or so. They definitely were not shy today. All fish were post spawn this time.

Del Colvin posted a report this week on YouTube. Good info. I haven't bass fished in weeks so I'm not much help. You could probably still find some crappie in the brush on points. -
Had Canadian shore lunch for supper last night. Fried fish, fried taters, baked beans.

Fished 9-2 Vertical jigging and casting. 4-6' deep in 8-12 fow. in the bushes. Caught 60 today. Not many keepers this time. I NEVER use live bait. Its been a few years since ive drown a minner. I'm strictly a jig fisherman during the spawn, and its not over yet. Went home with 9. About noon they really fired up and I caught 14 in a row on 14 casts. I've been sort of quiet about the crappie this year. Will share my spot with you where they are now. I've sore lipped all of them so have at it haha. Theyve been around there for weeks, even before the lake started rising I was getting a few suspended fish there. The higher and warmer the water got, the fishing kept getting better It's been an awesome place, and about the only place I've fished for crappie this year, except for one other time/place on Bull before the flood a couple months ago. Caught and released hundreds from this spot this Spring. We are going to continue to have amazing crappie fishing in the years to come. The lake is very healthy!

Great idea . Channel swing/ inside turn adjacent to that type bank. Catch them coming and going pre and post

There's an old saying , by the time you see bass on beds near the bank, the majority have already done their thing and left. The spawn starts way earlier than we imagine. Look at the reports I did this spring. Those big bass I was catching on worms were on beds many weeks ago.
-
The opposite is happening with rising waters on Bull. has bass so shallow their backs are almost dry. πI pulled up to a point at the mouth of a cove middle of the day bright sun, clear water, and they were everywhere cruising in and out of the bushes in shin deep water. All of them keeper largemouth. Hundreds of baby bite sized gills they were herding. When they got them pushed up near the bank in 6" of water they would kill em. I was fishing for bluegill, so they didn't get caught. i have a samll boat so I could actually get to these fish behind all and in all the bushes. Saw 3 males on beds on that point too. They were locked on.

The way the lake level is managed has obviously changed. Decades of "normal" levels with the occasional high water year has been replaced by let's make it as high as we can get it and more often. When it comes to making money, that's priority #1 obviously. So now they want to spend more money to build something that already exists? Stop flooding the lake and the parks would be usableππ€
-
I get it it's frustrating. I'm totally against a new park. The less development around the lake the better. I understand people like to camp , but there's already a park in Theodosia. It's not always nature's fault the water stays really high for extended periods either. There were times they could do something about it and didn't.
-
Moving the Theodosia Park? Interesting article in the paper.π€£ spending money on the "old park" if they are wanting to move it? They put new blacktop, all that new sand and concrete for the swim area, chunk rock along the roads, saw a guy working on the electric for several days last month, new roofs on the campsite picnic table areas after every flood, youd think a few screws would keep those roof pieces in place so they don't come off π . I'm not in the corps park business so I don't know. I liked John Turner's and Nance's comments about the spending Remember when they moved the old rock bathrooms in the park, and they still get flooded π Whatever they decide I'm sure it will be a nice park if/when finished. I find humor in a lot of things , especially when the coe are involved. π€£
