  1. Another good lookin fish Marty! I too tried to battle the wind up around the KC area yesterday, but I wasn't rewarded nearly as well as you were.
  2. I'm 24 and know a ton of guys my age that hunt and fish. In recent years things like bowhunting and fly fishing have become very popular with a lot of the younger guys. I think our generation has suffered a bit from technology, but as said earlier I believe a lot of it has to do with parents not taking the time to get their kids out in the woods or on the water. However, I will also argue that technology has really enhanced outdoor media and began to draw more and more people into our sports. Two great examples of this are the guys from Montana Wild and Heartland Bowhunter- young guys that provide content that is extremely appealing to generations young and old. As wrench said before, next time your on the water keep a look out for the neck buffs and flat billed hats.
  3. Good looking fish! Glad those sliders are producing!
  4. I'm looking for an old Martin 60, 61, 62, 63 to pair with an 6'6 4/5wt. Eagle Claw Featherlight to build a cheap small stream set up. I might also take interest in other vintage fly reels that you may have to offer.

    What's Cooking?

Rps, I'm definitely going to have to try that out. That looks amazing!
  6. Awesome! Sounds like a good event! I'll see if I can get my MR340 partner to compete with me.
  7. Incredible fish! I love hearing about guys that are dedicated to throwing this big swimbaits, especially on some of our Ozark lakes.
  8. You'll be within range of some descent smallie waters. Grab your wading shoes and get yourself familiar with the Ned Rig and some small texas rigged Zoom Speed Craws. Spool up some 6lb. line on a L-ML casting rod and you'll be good to go. Just don't get bitten by the fly fishing bug too early- it's hard on the wallet.
  9. Still haven't heard back from my reps. I've seen several things on social media lately though. People finally seem to be catching up with it.
  10. Good lookin fish! Love catching those big bluegill. Gramps, casting some of the chunkier stuff on a 5wt can be tricky. I definitely throw flies that are a bit too big for my 5wt, but it's a lot of chuck-n-duck type casting. If you don't want to get another rod right away and you're primarily interested in throwing streamers you could change out your line to 6wt sinking line. But, fly rods are like golf clubs- you can't expect the same performance from a putter and a 9 iron. Sorry to highjack the thread! Carry on!
  11. Chartreuse/white, gray/white and purple/white always seem to be the ticket for me. If I had to chose one fly to fish with for whites it would be chartreuse/white.
  12. So you won the Midwest Drift box! I thought that might have been you, but I wasn't sure.
  13. I've been tying a bunch of Mini Hoppers that I'm planning on using for bluegill this year. Should be a good bug! Here's a link: http://azwanderings.com/flies/mini-hoppers/
  14. Good to meet you this weekend Billethead! Enjoyed chatting with you and your wife.
  15. Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, but I think MOPanfisher is saying that if the landowner's property boarders the creek Brad may be able to put in on his property with permission.
  16. Good looking fish! Hoping to make it out to the creek within the next couple of weeks.
  17. I'm pumped that the Chiefs signed Maclin! I think he'll be a great addition to our offense. I like Bowe because he's a a big-bodied, powerhouse receiver. He's a descent blocker for a receiver, and due to his reputation tends to draw double coverage. That being said, our receivers have not produced very good numbers that past couple of seasons- including Bowe. I realize Alex Smith is a lot more conservative and protective of the football than our previous QB's, but there's no excuse for not having a single touchdown from a WR. I think if Bowe is a team player he should take a pay cut to make room for better receivers- not likely to happen IMO. I wouldn't be surprised to the see the Chiefs let him go.
  18. Great photos! I always enjoy checking your blog.
  19. I always forget about The Roost! Do they still have their taco tuesday special?
  20. If you're wanting a bar with great burgers you should check out Ebbets Field or Bairs. Two of my favorite restaurants in town!
  21. Good looking flies BilletHead. I'm planning on attending the afternoon/evening events at Missouri Spirits, so I may run into you there. Anyone else planning on attending?
  22. Here is what I sent my reps. Feel free to copy or modify as needed: Dear XXXXXXXX, I recently became aware of of House Bill 955 that has been proposed by Representative Robert Ross that would reclassify how navigable and non-navigable streams are used by the public. I believe I speak for many outdoorsmen when I say that I am completely opposed to any changes that would limit or eliminate public access from any of our Missouri streams. The proposed bill would have devastating effects recreation and tourism, as well as water quality and wildlife. Restricting access will taking away income from outfitters and other small businesses that survive on this seasonal recreation. Due to the recent proposals that have been directed towards conservation and public access, there has been increased awareness by many outdoorsmen across Missouri. People do pay attention to these things. Protecting our access to public lands and water are extremely important me and everyone else who enjoys a relaxing float down one of our beautiful streams. I urge you to take a stand against House Bill 955 and other bills that would have detrimental effects on conservation in our great state.
  23. Ha! Chief, I knew as soon as I posted that someone would come at me with a Ned comment. Call me old school.
  24. Congrats on the new boat! You shouldn't have any trouble boating a spot while you're down here. I've caught plenty of them around docks with a wacky rig.
