  4. Ive been wanting to float fish and camp. I guess im being a whimp for not wanting to camp out in 30 degrees and wet and snow. If it was elk season I would, but just cant quite commit.
  5. You kind of lost me when you started talking about grabbin suckers. I guess being from up north makes me a little ignorant about what you guys are doing for fun down there.
  6. How far upstream is Stony Point from romp hole. Im looking for a good access point to make a good fish float several miles upstream from romp.
  7. How shallow can the blazer paddle jon run give or take, and does sand mess with a jet boat outboard motor? rookie questions here.
  8. I have a canoe and a kayak that i float the grand river with. I also have an 18 ft jon with a 25 yamaha. I would use the smaller boat(with the 9.9 merc) on the Grand also when it is running a few feet above normal.Just looking for something smaller and lighter. I was thinking about a 13'4 Gheenoe that I could use with or without the motor. Thanks for your thoughts and yea I will check some of the above mentioned boats also.
  9. I bought a 9.9 mercury 4 stroke motor last year and am shopping for a small boat to go with it. I want to use it mainly for small lakes and rivers that are deep enough to run. What do you ozark guys primarily use on the rivers down there beyond a canoe and what would you recommend. I think ive seen some narrow jons that are boxier than a canoe but i cant think of what there called. Any ideas appreciated.
  10. I am in daviess county, which is just less than an hour south of the iowa border. Only went that one day and now the warmer temps have made it unsafe.
  11. I didnt talk alot about our B DUB trip last june. We floated the Granite River to Saganaga Lake. This was a short 3 dayer because it was last minute and didnt have alot of time. The smallmouth bite was late due to a late spring. We started slow but after we got the hang of it after day 1 we probably averaged 10 or 12 each per day. The biggest was 18 with the average around 14 to 15 inchs. We caught some northern but could not score on walleye. Most were on the drop off edges about 10 feet off the bank. Weather was good and the bugs were not terrible. Couldnt really fish at night because the mosquitos were to much to handle.

    Smokepole

Late season Muzzleloading has been really hit and miss. Either you see nothing, or you see lots and mainly does. I had 3 bucks hanging out at about 30 yards last night, and 2 were almost shooters. I watched for about 45 minutes until they became alert, and then 3 coyotes came loping along and scared them off. Its been cold and windy for the most part. I have a hankerin to head south and fish tany and the pothole. Oh well.

    Winter Is Here

Where has the time gone.Time for some catch up. Last summer we floated the river as often as we could when it wasnt flooding. Caught lots of channels although no big ones. I think the biggest bass i caught went around 5.5 lbs. Brother Buck shot a nice buck with his bow that probably scores 130ish. The biggest gun kill was by 9 yr old Hunter George Nelson but we still have Muzzleloader season coming up this weekend. Me and Buck did do a stint in the boundary waters in June and caught some nice smallmouth. The spawn was late up there but we still managed to do ok and the outfitter was impressed. Ill post a pic and Ill try and post some more later when I have some down time this winter.

    Bad Weather

Cold and rain have made the fishing tough so far this year. Have floated the river a few times and been shed hunting some. turkey season is almost here. Im having trouble downloading pics and its really starting to tee me off. I have a new camera and even after down sizing the pics they still wont upload. Oh well I guess you wont get to see the cool eagle pic or what we found along the river one day last month. okl just a dead 8 pointer.
  19. So how did u come to name your canoe after Slocum? Or have you answerd that already on a previous post? Is your shuttle service and campground open all year?

    Bow Choice

I shoot the The Truth by bear/primos. Its quiet and smooth and a good deal for a little less money. I have also shot mathews bows and that is a great bow also. I shot a recurve for years and bought a compound to hunt elk with for the xtra "umph. To justify the price ive been hunting whitetails with it, but Im still thinking of going back to the recurve just cause thats the way i like to hunt,. Compounds are nice though, wish i could afford a new one every year.
  21. here is a pic of the crap i caught ice fishing.
  22. Thanks to lilley i finally got this pic to upload. anyway heres a pic of the fish my brother caught when we were down there last week. Not a monster but above average I would say.

    Trout Trip

Headed to tanycomo on the weenend of 17th and did fairly well trolling raps. Hit powersite one night and did not do anything. Had a good time. I caught a 13 and half inch crappie ice fishing today. here is a pic of steve with the biggest. I caught the first and dad caught the most. The first day anyway.
  24. yes they are jpeg and I think i checked and it was under the file size limit. I dont have time right now, but ill recheck and do some experimenting and try to figure it out. thanks. I uploaded them to my facebook page alright so there has to be some technical reason on my end.
  25. Just so you know bill b. I like reading your post. I wish i had more time to go down and put your stategys to the test. My home lake is only 600 acres and after fishing it for 25 years its easy to fish 20%of the time and hard to fish 80% of the time. At my current rate of success it will take one more trip to bs and 1 whole day of fishing to catch 1 more walleye. Anyway i dont know what the success rate is on bs for walleye, but it dosnt seem to be too high from just what i read on this board. Seems like there are a whole lot of factors to determine a consistant walleye bite there. But i could be wrong since im not from down there. Just my thoughts.
