Note, if you scroll down (south, you'll also see Table Rock Temps http://www.tablerocktemperatures.com/stockton-lake.html Feel free to post any questions or feedback, I will surely respond. Ben
  2. Wow. This awesome Mr. Babler! Merry Christmas to all of us....
  3. Haha. Yes. Just wanted to make sure it was valuable to everyone before I started blowing $ on Equiptment and web and hardware engineering!
  4. Manual. I use a simple but tested thermocouple and a portable depth finder. I'm weeks away from beginning to purchase hardware for realtime, live reporting. The remote sites will all report to the website every 15 minutes, 24/365 and I don't really see any reason to move away from the map interface, it's really a great way to show it all...however, might be useful to add in an 'at a glance' feature so that people familiar with the locations can just look at a list of locations and temps if it were quicker?
  5. This is such great info dtrs5kprs , and makes perfect sense, really.
  6. Noticed that too Mike. I guess that big water down by the dam is holding heat a little better? I'm wondering if it's opposite in the summer?
  7. Added temps for: Cooper Creek Access (Taneycomo): 55.3 (!) - isn't this high? Bull Shoals at Powersite (Upper Bull Shoals Lake): 53.0 (see site for details...lower Taneycomo surface water was flowing through Powersite gates, which likely caused an artificial up-tick in temp) Beaver Creek Marina (Bull Shoals): 51.8 Ben
  8. Thanks big c, am off to the races on getting my live reporting units out on the lake. Hoping by spring warm up...
  9. Plans for the James indeed. I'm updating some of the temps and locations at this moment, I'll update this thread when I do. Thanks for the kind words Champ!
  10. While I don't have any realtime temp. devices reporting as of yet, I thought that while I am working out the kinks on them I'd post some general lake temps that I've acquired. These lake temps, taken by hand and shown in degrees Fahrenheit*, are as follows: **** 12-24-2015 - Added/Updated a few temps for TRL***** Indian Point Marina: 55.7 ° State Park Marina Launch: 55.7 ° Cricket Creek Marina: 53.8 ° Water definitely has more color down at Cricket Creek than up the big lake by the Dam and is cooler. Lots of guys at Cricket Creek, reports on here explain why. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas, I'll update temps lake-wide soon after Christmas, with this weather though not much is changing... Ben ******* Updated 12/19/2015 with additional measurements. See my site for details on time of day, depth of water, and exact location. Please keep any discussions on this topic here on OAF as I'm simply providing temperature information and nothing more Near Aunts Creek/ HWY Y: 54.6 Flat Creek near Cape Fair: 48.3 Cape Fair Marina: 52.6 Shell Knob near Pizza Hut: 54.3 Viola Public Use / Kings River Marina: 53.5 Eagle Rock Marina: 50.8 Holiday Island Marina: 50.3 Beaver Lake Observation Loop, just because: 55.3 *****Below is from 12/18/2015***** Long Creek Marina: 53.9 Combs Ferry: 53.6 Baxter Public Use Area: 53.2 High and Dry Kimberling City MO: 54.3 Indian Point Marina: 54.2 Moonshine Beach: 54.8 *Note: there is more information on the sun, shade, time of day, depth and other factors on my website which is http://www.tablerocktemperatures.com/index.html I'm going old-fashioned for now while I get all my hardware, costs, etc. lined out. Hope to move forward and have true realtime temps by the spring warm up! P.S. I would love some feedback. Please check the website for details regarding my methods, locations, etc...these are surface temps for the time being. My probes will be placed according to feedback I've received here, so keep it coming! Ben
  11. Haha... maybe removing my zip tie is a right of passage...but it never seems to be in my way and it just makes things nice and tight....I'll think it over... ALSO, Cousin Eddy may be a lot of things, but he is definitely NOT cold!
  12. By the way, we returned last Tuesday to the same spot, same watermelon red hula sticks, but clear skies and warmer.... We still caught fish. Biggest two are pictured. Nice LM and a nice fat SM by my buddy Ryan. ben
  13. Haha. Goog stuff guys.... the Hula Stick did a nice job, first time using it. I thought about trimming it down, it is considerably longer than the typical Zman ned's..it did it's job though! Careful, too. There are many different colors, and now that there are Hula Sticks in many colors as well at $4.49 a bag, having a color selection on hand can get pricey!
  14. Didn't get out on the boat, but fished around all the docks down at Indian Point while we had some things on the grill and football on the friends houseboat. Once the wind really started picking up about 2:30 or 3:00, I caught fish. 13 total I think if you include the dinks/shorts. All came on the Ned and all came in the back of the cove there at IP, 20-30ft. One dinker smallmouth who's eyes were bigger than his stomach, the rest Kentuckies. Many times, especially the bigger ones, they'd hit it on the fall. Healthy K's. PB&J Ned did well, but the watermelon red Ned 'hula stick' did great, which I didn't even know existed until I went to Bass Pro yesterday before heading to the dock.
  15. I'm in. 2 of us, one boat.
  16. I've done *some* research on that thought...and it would likely come from the MDC. I'd have to show them that this data would be beneficial to fishery management. The funding campaign link that's on here is more or less a good way to gain feedback from everyone. Sure, it'd be nice to get a few extra bucks, but as I said in the video, I'm moving forward regardless. Funding now would ensure a timely build out, but does not, by any means, discourage me from moving forward. I'm digging in hard at the moment and my goal is to have 5 units reporting real-time temps by the March 1st warm up, which is very realistic.....
  17. Fish 24/7... Good thoughts. Mean people do suck! Ha. We've taken this into consideration, very much so. However, the commercial marinas where we'll have these initially (private docks will come in time to provide more thorough coverage of the Rock) have many things of value and I am sure they take reasonable precautions. Long story short, the majority of our units will be protected by whatever means a commercial dock uses. Without going into much detail, these will be pretty inconspicuous, really. if someone were to steal these, they'd be stealing gas, ice, and maybe a rental boat while they were at it...and would need scuba gear to get to it love the feedback though, keep it coming! Ben
  18. Excellent input @Champ188...they could absolutely be in a slip so as to have permanent shade. Just an FYI from some conversation earlier, adding two probes, one at one depth another at a different depth, is more than doable, but as you even mentioned, I'm trying to narrow the goal here and that is to get temperature data that reports to a single place. One thing that I think would be very neat also is to have a sensor that records 'turbidity', or 'conductance'. My website could translate the numerical value of that metric into something we all care about...i.e. a 'Turbidity' reading of 0.3, once a simple scale was established, could be determined to be roughly 6ft of visibility to the naked eye...could help with determining where the stained or clear water is throughout the lake...just a thought...crap, I'm supposed to focus on temperature!
  19. You're right sir...while the thing will need at least some income to float it for years to come, my goal for now is not profit, just wanting to get moving and see how useful it can be...
  20. Just to fill everyone in...if anyone were to happen to 'donate', that money is donated. There is no 'threshold' that must be met, the 10K 'goal' will cover lots of expenses particularly pertaining to the website development and other initial costs, but after that, adding more 'stations' (devices reporting temp to my website) would be much much cheaper. Any amount smaller than that will surely get me off to the races in getting this up and running.
  21. These will be entirely remote, with readings all reporting to a single, simple map interface showing where the device is and what it's most recent temperature reading is. I would do my best as far as placement of these devices for accuracy and also include information about whether a particular device is typically in the sun/shade/other factors. These will all report temperature readings every 15 minutes. You are spot on @dtrs5kprs ... I'll get them as accurate as possible, but for now, it would be a great guide for planning...not as much running around the lake.
  22. Thanks for the words @m&m...incorporating in lake levels is very easy. That data is readily available and can be shown along with temperature no problem. Logs, historical data, etc. are a part of the site. Easy features. The hard part is the money to place my devices in relevant areas of the lake like you said. Showing the data along with levels and other metrics is a walk in the park, comparatively.
  23. I agree completely denjac...I just have to start somewhere. Water levels are freely available and I can pull that info into any website or eventual app, I am just trying to get this moving and we can make improvements. Just need to get the groundwork of a dozen reporting devices going, then we can move onward and upward. Water level is a very easy thing for me to add, I'm just trying to stay focused on the core of this...temperature readings from across the lake. I can surely add that, just after I get moving.
  24. 18" it is then @Champ188...appreciate it. Adding additional depths is loosely in the plan if I can get up and running.
  25. Haha. Don't worry...we all do that @96 CHAMP... I actually hate asking for money and am not sitting easy right now with all of this going on and being in somewhat of a spotlight. I just think it would be very, very neat and useful, especially for guys who are not out everyday and who are not here in town with easy access to the lake...if anyone knows any of the big sponsor representatives for any of the tournaments, that could be a great source...
