Did you shine for any eyes? Still have not seen a white up river. Jim

There are a LOT of kayak fishermen in the area. Check out "Arkansas Kayak Anglers" on face book. There are a lot of us to fish with so your not out there on your own. Jim

Last week we found them near the hwy12 bridge. I didn't hook any but Sean did get 3 using live brood minnows. There was tons of bait fish near the island. Maybe someone has been there more recently. Jim

I took my 8wt with Clouser Minnow and I landed a small, about 15" striper yesterday evening. I was fishing the North Cove at Beaver Dam on the lake side. I waded to about waist deep and casted with the bank. Plenty of room for your back cast. Water I was fishing was probably less than 10' deep. No sinking line needed. Jim

I would suggest walleye now. :-)

A nice 20" walleye came floating by belly up today. Up stream from Parker Bottoms. I am going out tomorrow and try to find some. Jim -

Good job Calvin. Jim

"Aggressively midging fish on slack water." Chris that is a great description of Beaver. From my time on this water I find myself going to a 18-20 quasimoto or prince nymph. Very seldom you can not hook a few fish even with the midges coming off. Jim

Walleye Migration below Houseman

2 under size eyes above Houseman. Could be stragglers from last season. Still too nice to sit at home and watch tv. Jim -
Wow Dan. I am easier to entertain than you are. :-) I can have a blast like yesterday. I had 2 kids and their mother in the boat. Between the 3 of them they caught somewhere near 50 trout on power bait. 2 days before I had a father and son using PJs Jigs on a fly rod. first time fly fishermen and could only cast about 20' at best. They probably only landed about 10-15 trout. Before that a father and 2 sons with fly rods. That day used mostly quazimoto and had another great day. It is the smiles and pictures that keep me fishing "sterilized linear aquarium". Honestly the Beaver Tail water doesn't have the numbers or size compaired to Bull or Taney. Except for generating water I very seldom use dry flies personally. I do get reports from several fly guys a year who do use dries and catch fish. Jim

I was on the water yesterday evening and it sounded like running water the fish were surfacing so much. Midge hatch is crazy here. You will see caddis just not what I would call a "hatch". Roaring River is a lot closer than Bull and has a caddis hatch every day. :-) Jim PS. Bull is closer to 3 hours away.

All of our rivers and lakes are very cool in the snow.

Walleye Migration below Houseman

"If anyone gives a report they are moving up its already happened and they are sitting on a bluff wall watching the masses and laughing at them." LOL, I must admit I have sat on a bluff watching. :-) First thing I have to determine about fishing reports I get in the store is the "BS" factor. After some time you can get a pattern from the reports. When the same people always catch 30-40 every time they go odds are the "BS" factor is high. I have to smile at those guys and filter the bologna. Then if I personally went or someone I trust went. The reports I give out are always after the fact or they would be fish stories. Not much help with the walleyes now but as I find out more or catch some I will report it. Jim -
I bet the roads did suck. Very nice picture. Jim

Spider Creek Resort, River View Resort. Both are on the White River and within 5 miles from a boat launch on the lake near the dam. Jim

Unless they are generating when Table Rock gets below 913 you will have trouble getting up stream past 62 bridge in any boat. Usually can make it to Spider Creek island. Coming down stream with the current most river boats and drift boats can get through if you know where the channel is. There are spots during low water where the channel is only about 3' wide and 10" deep. Possible the cold water slows the whites a bit. They will spawn later here than the warm water rivers. Honestly it is like anywhere else with whites, you will be out one day and the water stinks and has a white scum from all the fish. 2 days later they have went back to Branson for a diner and a show. Jtram I work most weekends but always looking for a fishing partner. Jim

Most of the time from 62 bridge down river is still water fishing. You can and will catch fish with a fly rod in the slower water. I normally will use a clouser minnow or some other type of larger streamer. Ham mentioned the multispecies chances here. With a little luck the white bass will be up river along with walleye. Its realy hard to make me angry when that happens. Generally end of march-first of april, but we are already chasing the walleye . Jim

Most of the people coming in are complaining about slow fishing. They have been generating most weekday mornings. After it settles back down there is a midge hatch every day. Slow fishing but either a small pheasant tail, or a olive or dun midge should get some attention. We did get Turner Jones Micro Jigs back in the store. Between those, PJs Jigs, and Trout Magnets drifted under a bobber should get you enough bites to keep you interested. Another option is white or yellow power bait. I would about bet I can catch enough for dinner with it. :-) Stop by with a fish story. Jim

I've seen a few questions about this. The north cove near Beaver Dam will hold stripers, hybreds and whites in the spring. It is wadeable there most of the time. When we get a big southerly wind as the whites are running that northern bank will muddy up. When it muddies the fish get close to the bank. It requires being able to cast 20-30' into or quartering away with strong wind. A 6-8wt rod and simple clouser minnows should get you a smile. Another wadeable option for striper is the twin bridges area near Goshen. Richland creek dumps into the White there and it puts you in a spot where it is possible to hook some large fish. You don't have to have hurricane force winds to be good here. Come back with a fish story. Jim

Walleye Lures For River

We have good results pretty regular with the Flicker Shad below Beaver. Jim -
I have been playing in the woods more than the water lately. Most of the fly guy reports I am getting this weekend is it is a bit slow but better than sitting on the couch. Sounds like both extremes from #18 midge to a #8 wooly bugger are getting the same attention. Lighter the tippet the more bites you will get. We did get some Turner Jones Micro Jigs at the store now. Small Nickle/Gold Colorado is hard to beat. The bait fishermen are almost all catching limits of rainbows for diner. Color of powerbait doesn't seem to matter as much as where you are fishing. Stop by with a fish story. Jim
