  1. I tried targeting gar on the fly yesterday on the Meramec where Maramec Spring empties into the river. I caught a few bass but didn't have any luck connecting with any gar. Anyone have any suggestions of a good spot for wading to fly fish for gar on the Meramec or around St. Louis? I've been to a few lakes and creeks in St. Louis, but the gar I've found are not very consistent with the flooding.
  2. Nice brown. Thanks for the report.
  3. Thanks for the report.
  4. If you are fishing Taney at night and they are running water, I would recommend just not getting in the water and fishing the outlets from the bank. Leeches and sculpin patterns are good at night.
  5. I forgot to mention, I caught more trout in the 16-20 inch range than the past few years. It seems the trout have grown big and fat with the heavy generation.
  6. Here are some of the pictures from Taneycomo this past week. I fished in the morning on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. All these pictures are from Thursday morning when the reduced the generation. Fish were stacked up in the second outlet like crazy that day. Most fish were taken on a tan scud. A guy fishing next to me caught a really nice brown trout, maybe 5-6 lbs and probably 24 inches.
  7. Thanks Lancer. Thanks Phil. I ended up fishing the outlets on Taney. Caught several fat bows between 18-20 inches on nymphs (nothing paticular) but they seemed to be keying in on copper and brown colors. Phil, I will post some of the pictues on instagram when I get back home and tag you.
  8. I am visiting Branson this week and it doesn't look like there will be any wade fishing at Taneycomo. Are there any other decent places to wade fish in Branson away from crowds? I don't care if there are any trout. I would actually prefer to fish for carp or suckers if possible.
  9. Congrats jackdizo. That's a nice carp.
  10. Nice shot.
  11. I've only waded from Tan Vat to Baptist. It's a decent walk there and back. Mostly rainbows, but I've caught several browns.
  12. Awesome shots. Beautiful colors.
  13. I hope to go to Pomme this upcoming weekend to do some fly fishing for bass and maybe a carp or two.
  14. Nice brown.
  15. Anyone been seeing any spawning carp?
  16. I've streamer fished at Taney late at night and early morning with success throwing wooly buggers and clouser minnows. Anything that looks like a small baitfish or scuplin would probably work. I've read some guys have success on leeches, but I've never had any luck with these. You should be using a lot heavier line than 7x for streamer fishing. I would recommend 3x to 5x flouro. At night, you could probably get away with 1x or 2x. I've never caught a lot of fish using streamers (not like how you can catch fish every minute using scuds in the outlets), but the fish I've caught on streamers are big and aggressive.
  17. Latest video on the White and Norfork Rivers.
  18. You'd be surprised how many big fish hold in the riffles below the cable.
  19. I caught one when I was fly fishing for carp last year. It was towards the end of May around the time the carp spawn was happening. There were a bunch stacked up in the riffles.
  20. I'm not doubting that you could drift a fly into one's mouth if there are a bunch stacked up, but in my experience I've never had an asian carp take a fly let alone chase a fly like a common carp will. It's just not very much fun fishing for asian carp in the chocolate milk rivers and lakes of St. Louis.
  21. Most of the waters where you can catch asian carp are not very clear and I haven't found any information on fly fishing for them. Check out some of the youtube video from the website I posted. That will give you an idea of what you need to do to fish for carp in St. Louis.
  22. I think you will have a hard time finding the kind of water you are describing in St. Louis. There's a guy in St. Louis that seems to know the secret formula to catching carp: http://missouriflies.com/ I've been focusing on carp in St. Louis for a year without much luck. A lot of the carp I find are the Asian carp, which I hear won't take a fly. Finding common and grass carp has been a little difficult but not impossible. I think we are pretty close to the carp spawn for some areas, so you may have some luck catching one then. I did catch an Asian carp last week on a creek feeding off the Meramec river; however, I didn't see it and it didn't eat my fly, so it was more blind luck than anything.
  23. That's one nice rainbow. Looks like you had a good trip.
  24. I went mousin one night when there wasn't any generation. Caught an 18 in brown. Otherwise, I just throw streamers. Going in the morning before sunrise is a lot of fun.
