Fished a Bass Pro employee tourney today with a buddy and fellow OA member. Man what a great morning with tons of sub-15" fish caught. Around 9am the sky got dark, and the wind really picked up,many so did we with the spinnerbaits. Bam,Bam, and Bam. Limit of fish in the livewell pretty quick. This was a 4 fish limit. The wind had died down so we decided to skip over 200 yards and fish a point. Fire up the motor, take off, and "splash" in the face. Yep forgot to pull the trolling motor up. Pulled back on the throttle and within a blink of an eye, all I seen was the motor, foot pedal, AND my front electronics go into the lake. Yep, you read that right, I lost $1500.00 in the blink of an eye. Bill just looked over at me as I'm sure my face had a very puzzled look to it.
Any of us that has put as many hours in a boat as I have over the past 30 years has forgot to pull the trolling motor up at one time. BUT, I doubt many have lost what I did because of a silly mistake. Still not sure in my brain how to handle it. Guess I need to find a good used 24 volt trolling motor to get me by the rest of the year. Sad that I just had this one put on 6 months ago, along with the electronics. Almost lost the RAM mount also, but the way the transducer cable was ran, it stayed but you can see it almost pulled it out.
