Afternoon y'all. It's going to be a beautiful weekend! My girlfriend is new to fishing, and I'd like to take advantage of the nice weather to try and find her some fish (rules out fishing Fellows or Springfield). Any fish will do, as long as they bite. We will be in Bolivar this weekend, so I was thinking Stockton. Unfortunately, I don't have a boat, so we are limited to the bank. I've fished Stockton with friends that have boats, but I've never fished the bank. Anybody want to help a brother out with some bank fishing spots on Stockton?

Let's be honest, fishing from the bank at Fellows OR Springfield is enough to destroy your confidence, unless you're happy with bluegill and maybe a catfish or two, and the occasional lucky day. It's hard to find good fishing around Springfield without driving an hour, especially if you don't have a boat. -

Rainbow Lake?
RobinHood replied to Bass Yakker's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Everything I've found about a Rainbow Lake is about a lake about 70 miles south of St. Louis. I'm thinking this Rainbow Lake must be private, and the other one is open to public fishing. And it does appear to have trout. -

Springfield Lake
RobinHood replied to MObassin95's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
In my personal experience, it's a difficult lake, but I haven't lived here for very long. I did catch two very nice keeper bass below the dam earlier this week (see my post), but that's the most success I've had other than bluegill. I know there are good fish in there, I just haven't been able to get on them very much. I heard a rumor that there was a state record smallmouth in there the MDC found while doing an electrofishing survey, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. -

He had a belly on him too. I feel like it was a little more than that, but you could be right. I need to buy a scale. Haha -

Got off work earlier than usual tonight, so I decided to go poke around Lake Springfield. Boy, am I glad I made that decision! I wasn't expecting much, just wanted to get my mind off some things, and it was well worth it. I fished along with a ned rig for a bit, couple of bites, pulled in one very small bass, but surprisingly little action. So I decided to change it up. I tied on a 1/4 ounce jighead with a 2.5" mister twister sassy shad, and slow-rolled/bounced it along the bottom. Maybe 10 casts and I hooked into this guy. I don't have a scale, but I figure this fish is probably in the neighborhood of 6 pounds, and is by far my new personal best! Let it go, and proceeded to catch about a 3 pounder a few minutes later. Seemed small in comparison. It was a great night! On a side note, I was surprised at how cool the water was. Warm in some places, but surprisingly cool for the heat we had today. Water is also a bit higher than normal. All three bass were shallow, I don't think any more than 3 feet, close to the weeds in the eddy maybe +-50 yards below the dam. Also saw somebody catch a gar on what was either cut or live bait.

I went out Friday the 1st with btlifes2short. We had very limited daylight success, but we had 2 keepers on a spook and a dink on a buzzbait right at dawn.

Planning to bring a friend up to Fellows for a couple hours tomorrow afternoon/evening. We will be fishing from shore. Would really appreciate tips on any activity or places that fish are biting if yall don't mind. I've struggled there before, I could use all the help I can get.

Its going to be different not seeing his posts in the forums. Never knew him, but sad to see him go nonetheless. God bless you brother, rest in peace. John 16:33

Glad you're okay aggressor. What a douchebag. Lived in Africa for several years (family are missionaries), we had some douchebag try to steal a tire off our vehicle. Came off doing about 50 on the highway. We were okay, and so was the vehicle, but was pretty pissed off. Hope they catch that jackweed.

Can't afford a kayak, and even if I could, I don't have a place to store it or a way to haul it. I've tried fishing from various places on the shoreline at Fellows, but I haven't had any luck there either.
