  1. Good report and some great fishing.
  2. My thoughts exactly.
  3. Everyone likes pictures, although some people will say you are "advertising" how good the James is. Whatever. If I get a chance I'll hit the lower stretches this weekend.
  4. Wait until July. You'll see.
  5. When I looked at it right after they completed the project I wondered how many people will try to launch a boat there that will not make it up very far, or worse, go downstream and have some serious issues getting back up without running over paddlers. Hootentown is too far up for "boats" except in high water but I guess the MDC has to spend the money somewhere.

I catch a lot of Spots in the lower reaches of the James, but the highest up I've ever caught one was the hole just down from where the Finley pours in.
  8. And the other thing is that in all the years I've fished the Finley I've never seen a Pickerel, either. Could happen, just rare.
  9. In spring you can float it but it drops quickly. Up near Topaz is one of my favorite walk and wade stretches of smallie water.
  10. I do know most of the "catch and keep" types will keep every big Bass they catch, and it does make an impact. You are mistaken. .
  11. Any rod you buy "off the floor" at Wally World or BPS is likely to have been used as a sword or baseball bat by some kid - always get one from the back of the store and skip the "floor model".
  12. I switched to straight braid for most spinnerbaits and buzzbaits years ago - I like to throw 10/40 braid, but will use 8/30 for river Smallies or 12/50 for the big green fish. I fish spinnerbaits for Smallmouths in clear creeks and rivers a lot and catch them just fine even though the fish could see the line I guess. I use a softer crankbait type action rod - most "spinnerbait" actions are meant for mono and are a little too fast.
  13. Maybe gar raiding some other fishes bed, but not Musky. Unless you've started stocking them yourself, which would be awesome, but probably fruitless.
  14. Steeper banks in Winter - shallow coves and backwaters prespawn, and shoreline cover close to deeper water the rest of the time. Lures are whatever works from spinnerbaits and cranks to swimbaits and topwaters. I can catch a few decent Bass every time but I think a couple of years there wasn't a good spawn so there's a few less 3 to 5-pound Bass, it seems to be you either catch a big one or lots of 2 and 3 pounders. Either that or everyone is keeping the Bass, which wouldn't surprise me.
  15. When wading by yourself it's a pain, but from a canoe or yak it's not very hard to rig up a mount and get a cheap point-and-shoot camera that has a timer.
  16. It's my combination tree stand/still. Don't worry about it.
  17. I didn't see anything about that as far as migration goes - but I did get an urge for some unagi watching it. Pretty good show overall. There are some big eels in New Zealand!
  18. Beaver can be tough - my in-laws live in Beaver Cove (Between the two Cliftys) and I know it usually isn't the best spot for bigger fish this time of year. Sometimes, maybe, every once in a while type thing. Still fun to ride along and get the experience though, isn't it?
  19. I have no idea, but I'd try Dr. Larson http://fishinghistory.blogspot.com/ or at the Tackle Underground forum
  20. It's approximately 36" wide and 52" long - tapered from 12" at the front to about 18" deep at the rear. I believe the "15" refers to 15 cubic feet. I used to put everything that would fit in the back (behind the back seat - not the WHOLE back) up top in it easily.
  21. Lots of people in the park on the weekends (all the play 'Yakkers) but not many fishing - still it screws up the fishing from them constantly paddling all over where you're trying to fish.
  22. I've really only caught little Channels with stink bait but some people swear by it.
  23. Sears CAV-15 cargo carrier - I don't use it anymore (the newer road trip vehicle has more room than the old Cherokee). It locks and I have the key, it's in really nice shape.
  24. Yeah, no matter what your local X-Mart carries would you buy something the average customer there has taken and "played with" and rely on it NOT to break from abuse already on it. That's the reason why if I buy a rod at Bass Pro I get them to go in the back and get one, not one out on the floor that everyone has already done eight rounds of pretend sword-fighting with.
  25. Good to hear someone got into more than just a few. I'll be heading down there (somewhere) this weekend if the the Walleyes don't play.
