  1. Sometimes it's a really nice Italian sandwich (peperoni, salami, lots of onions and spinach) but mostly I like some sliced summer sausage and good cheese with an apple, usually a cripps pink these days, all washed down with a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Best thing to ever come in a can. I pack a 20 oz. powerade and lots of water, too.
  2. The river looks as low as it was during the drought in the late 90's. I'd float further downstream, like from Kerr to Galena.
  3. I like bobber stops - and they come in different colors to match your lure or add contrast.
  4. I pick up a lot of trash on my trips there, but I don't usually score a nice Browning hat!
  5. If it was Springfield on a weekend I could make it and I would. The trophy area regs work pretty good for the James - a slot might work better for the whole river.
  6. When I'm killing time fishing for Panfish here on the Finley I use small poppers and smaller nymphs. I usually catch a decent Bass or two on these trips - it happens but I catch more when I'm spefically targeting them.
  7. Maybe I read the original post wrong, but I just don't think I'm giving any tips to someone who called Bass "crap fish" and then says something about throwing the other fish they aren't after on the banks.
  8. Or just get it in your mind like a tourney Bass guy that every good spot gets only a few casts with a couple of fast moving lures, then you move on. If a spot is just to good to NOT have produced a fish than maybe throw a slower lure (jig, wacky-rigged stik) then move on again. Of course when I do this I'm in the solo canoe and don't have to slow down for anyone else. At any rate - I'm happy you got out thhere and caught some fish, Ive been so busy at work it seems like Summer is passing me by.
  9. I saw that - I wonder which cove it was? Time to make some calls.
  10. When it's low for this long it can be pretty tough.

    Rise

It rained pretty good around the Springfield/Nixa/Ozark metroplex Sunday hight. I actually didn't have to water my garden yesterday.
  12. Every once in while some drunken fool tears them down and they replace them with a new one. I drove by there coming back home a little while ago and they looked the same to me as they have for years. Lots of people parked at Greenbridge, and some drunk looking people getting their tubes ready at the pool down from Riverside right at the three-way intersection. I'm enjoying the A/C and may hit the pool up from Riverside after dinner right at dark.
  13. It's not like you'll have to get out and portage a mile or something, but you will have to get out and pull over some real skinny riffles. We need some rain.
  14. Usually they won't mind if you park there - as long as you aren't blasting some music or setting off fireworks.
  15. Wow, I need to find my old copies and sell them for 60 or so.
  16. I've been doing really well on my finesse jig over there, too. Nice marking on those Smallies - makes me want to skip work and fish while it's cool some morning.
  17. I haven't done as well down there this year as in years past - I'm blaming the drought. Glad you had a good time.
  18. Careful - you'll wind up as Smallie crazed as some of us are.
  19. That's one reason in this kind of weather I also like the James below where Crane dumps in - cooler water and less stress on the fish. I like hearing about other good people enjoying the upper Finley - it's a nice little creek.
  20. Just because you don't read about it doens't mean it isn't done. I fish above 65 as often as down. Springfield Lake this time of year is a little slow, but I'd just use whatever you feel the most comfortable with. That being said don't let the lack of a shuttle stop you from hitting the river - any paddler worth their salt should be able to go upstream as well as down. Then you don't need a shuttle.
  21. I have the older version of the 170W - when they still trusted you with the option of a 115 HP on a lighter boat. I have the 90 hp 'Rude on it and couldn't be happier. The only thing I didn't like was they went cheap on the seats, but the older Trackers were worse. For fit and finish I'd say Lowe, but there plenty of used Trackers out there so I'd look around some before buying, and I'd never buy new unless I just wanted to throw my money away or was sponsored or something.
  22. That's the great thing about that part of the finley - you can catch all kinds of different fish.
  23. It's probably gonna be pretty skinny up there - but let us know how you do.
  24. If you're trying for Bass from the shore this time of year you will usually be disappointed. You can rent canoes and kayaks at the boat house to fish out of if you don't have any other way to get on the water.
