  1. I was just saying that they haven't worked as well for me. I now pour my own, thanks.
  2. Sub-Walk is an awesome bait. I'm surprised more folks aren't using it.
  3. That's a good source - but really it's only worth what someone will pay for it - regardless of "value". The rimfire BPR's were made by Miroku (Japan) for Browning, so you don't have to worry about the whole Belgium-made-or-not thing like some other Browning guns. They are nice rifles. I've only fired the .22 LR model, not the mag, but the one I shot was a quick cycling, accurate rifle. A touch heavy compared to some other rimfires, but that made it not feel like a toy, but a real rifle. If it was in great shape and you really want it I don't think I'd go higher than about 500.
  4. A lot of different tournaments (B.A.S.S. for one) exclude rods longer than 8', and some specifically exclude fly gear. I'm not sure why, unless they think there's an advantage to using a fly rod? The 8' rule was because of Dee Thomas, because he basically was using a long cane pole to reach places others couldn't. And winning. Losers always cry foul, so they changed the rules to exclude long rods.Brave New world of Flippin' Still not sure why the fly gear exclusion though. Sage and a couple of others have come out with rods just under 8' in the past year marketed as "tournament legal" - but I don't know many they're selling.
  5. I'd be up for that one.
  6. It's a shame you went to all the trouble pouring the ones with those EWG Mustad hooks. The don't hook fish as well as a regular bend hook, so most folks just use the Mustad 32886 with the Swim Jig and Poison Tail molds, although it is a heavy wire hook, it hooks better than the EWG ones. Of course there's other hooks out there that fit, too.
  7. I've been pouring jigs and casting bullets. Tying some big bass poppers for us fly guys. Can't wait for a little warm-up so I can hit the suspending jerkbait bite.
  8. Pictures would be nice.
  9. If you ever mention golf and fishing together I'll never help again. Just sayin'.
  10. That's funny. I had a buddy who on one of our "first few years of legal drinking age" beer/campfire/catfishing trips lost his rig as a big Chanel pulled it in the water as he was answering the call of nature. I dug around in my tackle box and rigged him up a tangle of treble hooks that would make a snagger proud, and after a few minutes of dragging around on the bottom of the sand pit we were fishing - he reeled in his lost rig - with a 6- or 7-pound Channel Cat still on the end of the line! EPIC WIN.
  11. I'll have to agree that although a 7-weight is a better all around option for Smallmouth, if you're "just starting out" a 6-weight would be fine. After you get addicted to Stream Smallies you can branch out and get that 7 or 8-weight for bigger water. My favorite rod for smaller water (like the upper Finley or Bull Creek) is a 9' 6-weight. Plenty for decent sized poppers and weighted flys.
  12. Rabbit Strips, Schlappen hackle...
  13. I think my favorite screwball theory I read in the comments on a story about the bird kill was - get ready - a "Sub-Sonic Sonic Boom". Let me get this right - a sonic boom caused by something moving at LESS than the speed of sound? O.K., sure.
  14. Good to see someone's been fishing. Maybe I'll be dug out from all of my work in a couple of weeks. I hope.
  15. Another is Economy Tire and Muffler here in Ozark. They do more than tires and mufflers, aren't too expensive, and because of that are super-busy.
  16. There's one reason why Wiggle Warts catch a lot of fish: A lot of people throw them! There's an entire world of cranks out there, the Wart is just one of them. I find it amusing that some of the same folks who kicked the first suspending jerkbaits (Rogues, Husky Jerks) to the curb in favor of 15$ Lucky Crafts can also run around checking EBay or Craigslist trying to get an "old-school" lure. People can be fickle creatures...
  17. I always miss it. This time I had to clear away a dead oak that was going to fall across the driveway if I didn't drop it first.
  18. Boy, just hip waders? I wear them for duck hunting in shallow places, and when I'm just screwing around at Taney or Crane, but I have over the years got wet just up to the nether's enough to wear chest waders in cold weather. I suppose you probably know the area your fishing well, so it's not a big deal.
  19. Be forewarned: I might make it. Maybe bring some plates and forks, stuff like that. I need to fish Taney anyway...
  20. No - I'm sorry because I'm bored and cranky - stuck at the in-laws where all the people want to talk about is football.. (yawn). I need to fish, too!
  21. Something's either is a hybrid or it isn't - you can't have a fish that is just "part hybrid". Anyway, it's old news and Chris let it go anyway, so... just bored with cold weather and not much fishing hmmm? If you really want to know - email Chris - he will shoot you back an answer, he's a great guy.
  22. Nice. Always someplace to fish for something around here.
  23. I catch more fish no matter what I'm fishing out of, silly. Seriously, it depends on the water. Most of my waters are too skinny most of the year for jet boats, although every spring there are quite a few on the lower parts of the James. I never see those guys catch a fish, though.
  24. I still use bucktail jigs, although I wasn't born until the 70's, I know good lure when I see one. Here's great article from FLW about Guido Hibdon and Hair Jigs. For the love of hair...
  25. If it wasn't the short barrel model I know someone who would want it. But that doesn't do you much good, now does it?
