  1. I second the Sharpie's tip - they don't work as well on some things but you can buy them in tons of colors, and also get fine point ones. The best place for both is usually Hobby Lobby.
  2. There really aren't "Fall Break" crowds anywhere I've seen - most fair weather fishing people (which is almost all fishing people) have already hung up the rods and stuff by October. Taney will be busy on the weekends - fall break or not - everywhere else not so much.
  3. That's very cool - I need to volunteer for something like that.
  4. It always does - you'd think the bill collectors would understand that but NOOOOOOOOO..............
  5. They've been doing it for a few years. I've never gone because I've always been working the weekend it's on.
  6. I think the MDC is probably between a rock and a hard place on these shootings - but it does seem like they are really against investigating them thoroughly.
  7. I use either deer hair or foam these days - no more balsa or cork. Foam is just much easier to work with, and come in all kinds of colors.
  8. Hobby Lobby is where I get my foam and glue for it, too.
  9. Really good advice - if you can get some hands on instruction, do it. My deer hair spinning was fair until I learned from a master - there's a certain "touch" you have to develop.
  10. My favorite waders for Taney are my duck-hunting boot-foot (non-felt) waders - but my old wading shoes were needed some new felt - which won't happen now. I'll buck up - but I'll need to do some research first. I fall on my butt enough on dry pavement...
  11. Last time I fished it (weeks back) it wasn't producing as well as the lower river usually does this time of year. It may have been because I had some spinning and casting rods, though.
  12. We here have varied tastes - just because it's not our "thing" doesn't mean we won't get it.
  13. I haven't been up there in a few weeks - how'd you do?
  14. I fish Beaver quit a bit out of my solo canoe (gets blown around in the wind a little more) and you can have a blast - I mainly target areas I already know, but I'd start in smaller coves and creek arms. Another thing - you don't have to worry about a shuttle if you paddle and portage up from the river access point, just float back down when your done.
  15. Yeah - you just nose hook if you aren't wacky rigging, or use the Stoopid Rig like pictured here: Stoopid rig
  16. If they are going to try to swallow it, I don't know why one type plastic would be better or worse than another?
  17. I've been experimenting with circle hooks for my son - he's been nailing Sunfish and the occasional Bass with Power Bait and Gulp! under a float. Works really well. I haven't tried them for use with soft plastics - but I will. I haven't hooked a fish deeply with soft stick - but I have with tubes.
  18. Yeah, the Pack is really a specialty boat more for portaging ('packing"?) than the 119. I didn't realize Dicks had them for 399 - it would be worth the extra bucks to drive and pick one up at that price.
  19. I throw cranks and jerkbaits a lot so it happens to me a couple of times a year - usually by Smallmouths. I've never doubled with anything bigger than about 13" or 14" fish, so no pictures or keeping them. Like I would keep one anyway...
  20. He said it's not a Pack. It's in the text there somewhere. I'd buy it, but I'm strapped right now. I can always use another solo canoe.
  21. Yeah, I guess the "silver lining" in this would be if MDC and others chip in and help make it even better than it was before - and maybe make it harder to drain.
  22. Vandals Drain Noblett Lake. What in the world? I don't know why anyone would do this except to be malicious. How could the spillway be so easily screwed with by unauthorized people?
  23. I used to fish mornings during the week when I worked 2nd shift - it made for a long day though. Fish for 4 or 5 hours, go get cleaned up and go to work, then wonder why at 10:30 or so that night "Why am I so tired?" Well, duh. Hard to do it when you're working the morning shift.
  24. Yeah - I like Fall/Winter/Spring on the big lakes better than Summer. Especially the early pre-spawn - jerkbait bite time.
  25. I'm afraid that I'm in the "leader camp" so I can't help. It's easier to use one than worry, and in clear water with slow presentations I'm convinced it helps.
