  1. Was out last night messing around with my fish finder and an underwater camera and that is where we found the spots in the 22-30 ft range. Also me had a hard time keeping the blue gill off our line. Did see some big blue gill on the camera in 60 ft of water at about 15 feet deep.
  2. I think that T-RockJaws has got it figured out. You go out on the night that you DO NOT have a tournament catch all the big fish and then thoes big fish do not ruin a good tournament night. Should be a report coming.
  3. We had a kid almost die last year from a bite from a Pygmy a couple of years ago down at Roaring River. He was not messing with it and from the story I hear it was in the swimming pool area when he got bit. If there is a poisonous snake in a public area around people in needs to be removed or killed. I do not have the skills to remove a snake safely or quickly so if I see one in an area where my family lives or visits frequently it will be dead. I have seen snake bites on both adults and kids, the medical cost is un-real, the bite is usally on a hand or arm with a good chance of some permenent disability. The killing of snakes to protect ones family does not make you a bad steward of the world. Read Act Chapter 28 even Paul killed a snake after it bit him.
  4. I have the 797 and it works great, but I would like to have the bigger screen for the SI and the dual SD card slots that now come on the 798. The 798 does have a higher screen resolution than the 797, but have yet to see one in real life. The upgrades that HB comes out with are another plus they have had two since I have had my unit that really improve the way you use the unit. All that to say this save for the bigger screen you will not be sorry, I think (Don correct me if I am wrong) that they now have a size between the 798 and 997 for the SI.
  5. I work in Hand Rehab and have seen some Snake bites that have needed therapy after the fact secondary to the swelling. Never treated a copperhead bite on a adult, but have on a kid, the cottonmouth bites I have seen on the hand where pretty bad, but the worse bite I have seen was from a Pygmy Rattler. Multiple bites on both arms it was a really bad deal. 80% of the bites I have seen ( less than 10 in 13 years) have been from people/kids picking up the snake for some reason or another.
  6. Took the family out Monday out of big M and boat traffic was bearable. Was looking for some bluegill for the kids which we found, but had numerous encounters with fairly aggressive snakes. One I am pretty sure was a cottonmouth (fat body, ridding high on the water, triangular head) headed right for the back of the boat like he had boarded one before. We got out of there, but had at least five other snakes come towards the boat when we where fishing. That got a little old so we headed back to the dock, did have some really nice bluegills and one 14 inch bass that gave my 5 year old a good fight.
  7. Good luck I have hear it had been a little slow I hope that changes for you.
  8. This is insane I know you and you partner and I know you hate cheaters. Also if you are cheating why are not both of you in the top five? This is insane and makes me wonder about the people pointing the fingers.
  9. Thanks for the great report Bill. Had some redfins shipped to me last week and used them today for a great day on the rock. Had seven keepers with the best 6 right at 14#s, nothing big, but had at least 20 fish each on the redfin before the bite stopped at around 10:00am.
  10. Just a reminder if any one is interested should be a good day if the weather can hold off until 3 or so.
  11. Went out last night had 4 keepers with the biggest being 3#s and a 25 inch 6# eye that put up a great fight. Lost count of short fish at 14 1/2 inches. Was back at the ramp by 10:30.
  12. It was dusk and was chasing busting fish. Had some blow ups on a popper type fly but went with the old stand by, blue and white clouser. I have only had three on the fly rod, but each one was a lot of fun.( all on clousers) Not sure what it going to happen when I get a big one on, but can not wait to try.
  13. I use the big red fin in smokey joe, super zara spooks saltwater, and pencile poppers. I have different colors of the pencile poppers and spooks, but smokey joe refin is my goto bait. Topwater striper is probably my favorite type of fishing, but I would be careful with an eight year old you might lose a pole or have a wet kid these things pull hard once hooked.
  14. This one was up by the Dam. We only took flyrods on this trip and it is really hard to get into range when they are busting on top. About 10-15 yards is my max in distance in the boat with my fly rod and that takes a little time to get it out that far. Fun Challenge though.
  15. Use the red fin on Striper in Beaver and it is a great bait, but even after netting one you feel like you are playing russian roulette trying to get one unhooked.
  16. Went after some striper/hybrids on flyrods the other night. Had plenty of chances, but only one in the boat. Took a little while to figure out what they would hit then it was dark. Here is the one I got to the boat not sure of the size , but took a good 10 minutes to get in. Did not help that my buddy was on the front of the boat still chasing fish on the trolling motor as I was trying to get this one in.
  17. I have fished out of indian creek boat ramp/campground the last two afternoons. Sunday was unreal for topwater stripers they where everywhere I had three in the boat and lost one nice one I would guess close to 20#s. Whent last night and it was a totally different story. Saw some scattered topwater action, but they only stayed up for a second or two and had a couple boils on the redfin and one halfhearted blow up. I think the stripers are getting close, but not there just yet.
  18. I am not a crappie fisherman at all and I had tweleve keepers and to many small ones to count up kings. Seemed we could get bit about every place we stopped. Could of done better, but was looking for a white bass bite that I had heard about and wasted a lot of time.
  19. Had an old man tell me a story last week and not sure if it is true, but he swears that it happened. There was a couple of guys fishing for crappie and had started to catch a few. Pretty soon some more boats turned up and some where getting pretty much right next to the original guys fishing in the boat. One of the original guys stood up in the boat pulled out a 45 and put a couple of rounds into the lake between the boats. He then looked at the guys in the boat and said " I hate Turtles." and continued to fish as if nothing happened. DISCLAIMER THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT WAY TO HANDLE THE SITUATION, BUT IT IS FUNNY.
  20. ditto fishing report out of Eagle Rock no real big ones but had 6-7 solid keepers( with one guy in the boat with 4 of thoes keepers) with some 12-14 inch males thrown in. Secondary points with chompers some right on the bank some in 10 ft of water or so. We fished for about 6 hours with the hour or so before dark not being that productive, but turned on around 11 for a time.
  21. The St. Johns Hospital Cassville Relay for Life team is putting on a Bass tournament out of Campbell Point May 1st from 7:00am to 3:00 PM. The fee is 30 dollars per boat and five dollars per person for big bass. The tournament will pay out three places with 50% of the money going to Relay for Life. There will be a picnic after the tournament and I think some raffle drawing for some pretty good prizes donated by the community. For more information please PM me.
  22. Fished a small turney out of Eagle Rock and only had one keeper all day, plenty of short fish, but when we got back to the ramp we found that we just fished the worng way. Out of just six boats we had to bags over 18 pounds and one 7 1/2 pound pig. Crankbaits on secondary point seemed to be the ticket.
  23. Did you see any top water striper/hbrid action, that one picture of the flat water makes is hard to wait.
  24. Thanks guys Problem taken care of.
