  1. Let's get together for a cleanup day! At the dam. On the lake. 10 am meet for cleanup noon meet to eat. Pot luck style - at the shelter. Lilleys' will provide a boat or two if needed. Who's in?
  2. Went out this morning for a short run. Threw sculpin 1/8th oz jig along the bluff bank below Lookout - caught a couple. Tried our new "thingamabob's" not sure of the spelling- fished a 1/32 on brown jig with a orange head under it 8 feet deep (they were running 2 units) and caught 3 rainbows. The TAMB's worked good- I liked them. Stripped a big crackle back under some trees and didn't get a rise. Went back out this pm about 3. Went to the cable- me and Jimmy and his friend Cody. 4 units running and high sun. Drifted a pink egg fly on the bottom with a scud- caught 3 rainbows on the first pass on the egg. Second pass caught a couple more plus 2 nice rainbows on a sculpin 1/8th oz jig thrown in the slack water across from KOA. Drifted on down and caught 2 rainbows across from Lookout Island. Worked the bluff bank and then the middle of the lake with the jigs- nothing. Got down below Fall Creek and pulled out the night crawlers. Haven't fished one of those in a long time. Jimmy hooked 6 rainbows before getting to the resort. Cody caught 3. I blanked. Drift fishing from FC down with either crawlers or gulp has really been good. The biggest rainbow came on a crawler - about 17 inches.
  3. I just got a quote from our local print shop on some OA decals- you know, the ones you see in car windows. It's for your motors- so you can identify fellow OA members. 9 inches round They quoted me about a dollar each "plus shipping". That told me they're farming them out. Best to find the real print shop and have them done there. Anyone do that here?
  4. We have a 2 bedroom lake front unit open for Friday (tonight) -Saturday- Sunday if anyone can get away. Will take 2 of 3 nights. Unit #19 http://lilleyslanding.com
  5. Alittle more info would be helpful. Where are you staying or what part of the lake are you fishing? Your experience? There is alot of info already on the forum- reports on Table Rock. Things don't change real fast... reports a week old still should be pretty accurate. I'm sure some of the guys will add some info for you. But for the help, we expect a good fishing report- bad or good- after your trip.
  6. Most of the objective is to get all the line in the air - no dragging. Then it's timing. Not all that hard. But you don't have to follow his movements exactly. You can do the same in half the moves- or different moves. Make up your own moves- just as long as you get the line in the air and in position to make the last roll cast.
  7. Thanks for the report and pic. Looks like you and your dad had a memorable trip.
  8. Where are you from in SE Kansas?
  9. Super- it's a nice place to "stick around".
  10. General Membership Meeting History of Mill Creek - May 28, 2009 Queeney Park Rec Center St Louis “The History of Mill Creek" will be presented at our next club meeting on May 28th by Dr. George Bohigian. He will speak on the directions to "secret" fishing spots, best lures and techniques to fish on Mill Creek. In addition, he will highlight the original settlers, hydrology, entomology and the original stocking of the wild McCloud Rainbow trout. The surrounding natural wonders, the creation of the BCA (Bohigian Conservation Area) and the contributions and present activities of the Ozark Fly Fishers and future plans for Mill Creek will be discussed. http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/ Someone needs to tell their webmaster to TURN OFF THE BUBBLES!!!!!
  11. I know. There's an unknown number of posts that were evidently lost when ozarkanglers was moved from one server to another. Same with some attachments (images). Unfortunately, there's nothing I or Jim can do about it. Hopefully the damage is minimal.
  12. In my experience in speaking with people about this, I find most are appreciative. Some are bothered. Some are definant. I don't care- I'll say something if I see it 80% of the time. Depends how sure I am about the violation.
  13. This is just a reminder that if you are interested in helping out with the Kids Fishing Derby on June 13th please let Mike Tipton know as soon as possible. The good news is that this year NAFF doesn’t have to cook!! We need “fishin’ marshals” to be down on the river to measure the catch as the kids bring them in and some other details that the crew will come up with. It’s a lot of fun. The “Derby” takes place at Quarry Park across Hwy 177 from the Norfork National Fish Hatchery below Norfork Dam. The time will be from about 8:00 a.m. when registration starts until the last prize is handed out around 1:00 or 1:30. The fishing actually takes place from 9:00 till 11:00. Once the activities are over then you can head out to do a little fishing on your own. The dam is normally shut down for this event so you should be in luck for good wading!! 14. This is a great event!! For those who live in the Branson area or those who may be visiting::: Saturday, June 6 10 am to 2 pm is the event. Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery - the sink-hole pond to the east of the hatchery grounds. They've fixed the leak! Fishing for pan fish and catfish will be available for kids. Stations will be setup for kids and adults to tour and learn more about the outdoors and specifically fishing. We'll need adults to help kids catch fish! What could be more fun!! Reply to this thread if you can help and we'll put you down. Thanks!
  15. Well- it's in the post but I guess the site has gone away since 2006.
  16. Lots of fishing to clean.... fun stuff! Thanks for the report!!!
  17. It would make me REAL nervous to have a client carrying a gun in the bush in AK. If I were making the rules, clients wouldn't carry them in my camp.
  18. Duane would be weighing in on this one if he were within internet access right now... We talked about this before he left for AK. Duane would carry if he could. For me, I'm not sure. The issue is bears. Someone mentioned AK-possibly for bears... absolutely! Where Duane is heading, we see bears on a daily basis and most of the time they are within small arms fire range. Some within rock throwing distance. And sometime within spitting distance. From what I've read about killing bears with a hand gun- #1 you need a big gun and #2 you have to be lucky. There have been bears killed in AK that were found to have multiple old slug wound found in their body, some slugs lodged in their skulls. An adult male bear's skull is up to 2 inches thick. To kill a bear DEAD and thus, not tearing at your neck, you'd have to get lucky and get off a heart shot and even then, he'd have time to do you in while he was bleeding out. I like bear spray. I'll take it over a gun any day of the week. BUT when a bear is on top of me, it would be nice to at least have something that may get him off and a hand gun would be that something. It should be an option to those who would want to carry one in any National Park, at least in AK.
  19. Took my nephew Ryan and friend David out to try to catch some white bass. Got to the park about 6 pm and boated up in Swan to see what was what. Nothing. Headed to Powersite. Some boats up there and lots of people on the west bank- LOTS! Something's going on. We turned to the east side and fished the places where I'd caught whites a few weeks ago. They were still there. White jig on the bottom. Chart swimming minnow. Both caught whites. 4-5 good ones. 4-5 marginal ones. 20 or so dinks. Good evening of fishing.
  20. Guided with Bill yesterday and this am. Generation about the same both days- 1-2 units in the am building to 4 by 1-2 pm. We started with micros but went to scuds soon after and stayed with them most of the trips. #12 or #14 silver/gray scuds worked the best. Drifted from Andy's to Fall Creek, staying pretty much in the middle of the lake using fly rods only. Set the fly from 7 to 12 feet, depending on amount of water running at the time. A good amount of weight to keep it on the bottom. Fly gathered some moss but not too bad, esp for this time of year. Bites yesterday were hard but this am were soft and they missed a bunch. Had to really watch the slack in the fly line cause you had to be quick and affective on the set. Saw guys doing pretty well throwing jigs straight. Not sure of the color but they looked dark. Night crawlers were hot in the short creek area, catching some real nice rainbows.
  21. Check out reports on oa's main page and on the forum. Also look at the generation and levels from the last few days. You'll see generation has been slow in the am and fast in the pm. You'll have to judge for yourself if the water is high enough to go to the dam. The water is clear and you can see the bottom anyplace. Fishing should be excellent this weekend.
  22. As much as I'd like to join this conversation and allow a good and civil discussion on this subject, I can't. I can't allow it to continue either. No political subjects- sorry. I'll delete this topic in a couple of hours, closing it now.
  23. Seth- Your list is perfect- right out of the USCG manual. I anchor in heavy current here when I want or need to. It is relatively safe IF you know what you're doing but nothing is 100% safe. Depending on what kind and shape of boat you're in, a large wake could swamp an anchored boat. Leaning to one side quickly could lead to taking on water. I've seen people get their anchors lodged on the bottom, then try to maneuver their boat by running it back upstream to dislodge the anchor just to have the boat's bow dive down violently when they hit the end of the rope, swinging back down and then whipping back into position. As for here at the marina, we take the safe side and say don't do it, especially in our rental boats. When dealing with the general public, you have to assume the worse - that they are ignorant and will do stupid things if not told otherwise. I do try to instill a certain amount of fear when talking about the subject. I've seen what it can do first hand. If we say just "Don't Do it!", then it's choosing to stay on the safe side of the issue.
  24. Not bad... have to differ. Our water is 45-46. That's cold even for trout. Surface temp on TR is in the 60's. Mix the two and you've got warmer water- better for trout. I'm telling you- I've caught my biggest trout on Taney during flood gates in May. BUT I doubt if it will happen. Table Rock is too low for flood gates regardless where Beaver is.
