  1. I know Gary and have used the taxi for years. Not only put you in an area that has fish but recommend flies to use. He'll also tell you what to expect as far as generation. Call before you drive over to make sure someone is around to take you. The Spring is canoe friendly but I believe during the summer it's a party mecca. Not a good place for families. At least that's what I heard and maybe someone else can confirm or deny that. It takes about an hour to drive there from Quarry Park. Don't speed, they patrol the road over there pretty heavily. 2. Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I believe the rubber legs are illegal in Zone 2 SIO3
  5. This is just my opinion. I've given this advice on here before. Learn to manage your trading money so you can stay in the game long enough to learn something about trading. Go buy William O'Neil's "How to Make Money in Stocks" It will teach how to hang onto to your cash. When to buy when the odds are in your favor (somewhat), and more importantly when to sell. Especially when to sell when you are wrong. It answers the most important question in trading. You've bought a stock, now what is your exit plan? When will you take profits? How big of a loss are you willing to take? Are you aware of the tax consequences of taking a loss on a stock and then trading it again withiun 30 days? If you do, you can't take the loss on the first trade. It's called the wash sale rule. Also consider a trading platform that does year end tax accounting for free. At Ameritrade you get access to Gainskeeper for free. I can't tell you how much that is worth to an active trader. I could go on, but the bottom line is, conserve your money long enough to learn something. Because you will be wrong eventually. SIO3
  6. Hey Flyfishinfool Greg thinks your Terry Beason because you have the same avatar. SIO3
  7. I've posted this before. Creve Coeur Lake. Not the main lake but the canal under the Page Ext. There is road to the Lakeside Bar I think you can park along to get there. It is absolutely loaded with carp. I've seen it covered in carp sipping cottonwood fluffs. Report your success. SIO3
  8. Ted, a great place to carp fish is Creve Couer lake. Not the main lake but the canal that runs under the Page extension. I've been bike riding there and have seen literally hundreds of them eating cottonwood fluffs. I haven't been by car, but I think you drive down the road that goes to that Lakeside bar and walk in from there. I've tried hundreds of presentations to carp with a fly and haven't ever gotten anything close to a pattern. Chum with corn, use a spinning rod, split shot and a scud hook. Deadly!!! Drive up to the Golden Eagle Ferry and fish that slough along side the road. Hundreds of them. Snagged
  9. I have hired many guides over the years. Mostly in places when I'm on vacation and don't have a boat or the knowledge to fish safely. For instance, red-fishing in New Oeleans. I don't have a boat and even if I did, I don't the tides or areas to fish. So I hire a guide. The only times a guide has fished during the trip were the bass fishing guides. Specifically one at Lake of the Ozarks who repeatedly threw into the cover before me until I told him I wanted to cancel the trip. He said all the guides fish on the trips and it is normal. After watching him catch 4 or 5 fish I told him to pack it in and take us back. I also refused to pay. I had a similar confrontation at Table Rock with a guide while on a business outing. So what's your take on this? Let er rip. Snagged
  10. Nice!!!! Wish I was there!
  11. Like June used to say to Ward, "Don't be too hard on the Beaver, dear" Sounds like you have it made. Turkey hunting, camping and fishing! Keep up the reports for all us working stiffs. Snagged
  12. Can you also turn the bite on!!!
  13. As someone who lost a good-paying union job due to outsourcing I'm torn about this subject. I am buying a new Mercury but it is made Mexico. Several GM products have chinese engines and parts. Trucks are either made in Canada or Mexicao. I wanted to buy a GM crossover (Equinox), but with 3 recalls already it just doesn't make financial sense. Dodge gets such poor reliability ratings that it's out of the question for me. I don't think the corporate heads of these companies give a hoot about the regular guy, so why should I care about them? It seems they like to use the patriotic line to get and keep business, but their actions don't agree with what they say. I care about the regular guy, but what if he's building Honda's here in the States? I buy from one of the Big 3, and my vehicle was built in Mexico. At this point, having an "American" nameplate means enough to me to avoid an import company. Although I may regret it. Funny how Honda can build extremely high quality vehicles with American workers but the Big 3 can't. It's not the guy on the line, it's the engineers and designers. Nothing can overcome poor design, not even the best worker. I have many friends at Wentzville Thom. Snagged.
  14. Don makes a good point but if you go very early like I said, the crowds are small. Also, go to Henderson Park and walk away from the access, believe me there are no crowds. Snagged
  15. That sounds fun to me. I don't have a boat but I have gas money. Good luck with the back. SIO3
  16. I use bass fishing equipment. Med heavy 7 foot bait caster, med heavy 7 foot spinning rod and a light weight spinning outfit for pompano. I throw a nine weight Loomis flyrod when I want to catch lady's in the surf. I've heard of guys wading the bay side for trout and reds but I've never tried it. Some areas have access near the road that looked good. Actually you could put on a silver spoon on clear days or a gold one on cloudy days and catch fish in the surf with little else. With the caveat of being out there at first light. I can't comment on the boat, but if you do well, maybe you could take me out fishing around here in that thing???? SIO3
  17. Well we took a side trip from Norfork dam to the spring Friday. We camped at Norfork Dam and since they they were running water in the afternoon we headed over to The Spring. What a great town Mammoth Springs is!! Reminded me of Basalt Co where the Frying Pan runs right through town. We checked out the hatchery access but we didn't like the looks of it compared to Lassiters. What a fabulous run it is at Lassiters. Although I got Spring River baptised in the shoal just below the island!! Mark that down as another river I've gone down in. We started by going to the fly shop and they said the river was up slightly and chalky. We headed upstream from the lot by the island throwing buggers on long lines and caught fish all day. All the fish we caught were in the 12 to 14 inch range and fought hard. We fished our way downstream to the grassy area in front of the houses. We had the run of the place and it was great. There was small PMD hatch but there was never any indications that the fish were keying in on them. If you've never gone to The spring, you should check it out if they are generating on The White and Norfork. It's a much bigger river than I expected and it has a wide variety of shoals, pools and runs. I'll be back to check out other areas. It took us around an hour to get there from the Norfork Dam. Watch your speed because we saw 4 State Patrol cars and 3 locals on the way back. Thanks to everybody that offered advice and especially The Spring River Fly Shop. Snagged
  18. We have been going to Destin for years and the best fishing to be had is walking the beach at first light and catching lady fish. They are in the tarpon family and they cruise the beaches early chasing bait fish. You can cast silver spoons or fly fish for them. It's critical to go at first light. If you see bait showers just cast in the area. When hooked they are very acrobatic. You can also bait fish early for redfish and small sharks (black tip and bonnet heads) in the surf, and I mean big redfish. Frozen cigar minnows work best. Sand fleas for pompano can get you a great meal on a light spinning rod. I'm sure at last light the bite is the same but we are at dinner or happy hour then. Bait fishing at night is also very good for reds and sharks. Call this shop when you go down there and they will give you the current conditions and techniques. http://www.halfhitch.com/destinRptdefault.asp Snagged
  19. Thanks Terry, I was hoping you would chime in. We're leaving St Lou today at noon so we might hit The Spring Friday. I've always wanted to go there and this might be the trip. I love Fred's, but we cook out on an open fire all week. Note to self, Lacee at Riverbend. Steaks, ceasar salad and baked potato tonight!! Fish fry with hush puppy's the other nights!! Snagged
  20. Thanks Brian, that's what I'll do if we head over there on a side trip. What access do you like? SIO3
  21. Hey everyone Does anyone have a map of the access points and directions from Mountain Home? Thanks, SIO3
  22. Thanks Leonard. We're coming down in May and staying at Big C. We are putting the older kids (mid to late 20's) up somewhere else . Was hoping to get them as close as possible without staying at Big C. SIO3
  23. Anybody know of a hotel near Big Cedar? Or maybe between Big C and Holister? I seem to remember one near The South Town shopping area but can't remember the name. The closer to Big C the better. As always, thanks in advance. SIO3
  24. We just angle the trailer downstream. If you have room, that is. Notice my disclaimer!!! Snagged
