Hey Phil. I was the one who reported that I saw didymo at KOA. I am sure of what I saw back then and knew at the time I should have grabbed a piece to bring back. I am glad they didn't find any evidence of it and again the question remains, "does it just go away or are we stuck with it?" If it is in The white below Bull Shoals dam then it is only a matter of time before we see it at Taney. I am sorry and I certainly didn't want to cause unnecessary alarm but I am sure of what I saw. A couple cups of bleach to a gallon of water to rinse your boots wouldn't hurt if you fish in the White. Sorry again. Snag.

Comment Thread - Shuffling
snagged in outlet 3 replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Illegal. I have been thinking about this subject for as long as I have been fishing Taney. Been going there for over 20 years My first reaction, I hate shuffling and I want those people to stop. I wanted them to stop so when they couldn't catch fish without dancing, THEY WOULD LEAVE, Taney is overwhelmed as it is. I wanted them to stop because they ruined my fishing. When groups of guys start shuffling they attract most of the fish from the surrounding area and non-shufflers are forced to move to find fish. Take the 3 or 4 guys lined up in a row right in the middle of the river (top of rebar). Then another 3 or 4 in the river (below outlet 2) and that whole area is fishless for the rest of the anglers. In the early fall this is not only common but sometimes there are 3 to 5 different groups, or individuals, shuffling that same area. So it's the "my fishing strategies don't affect you, but your strategies affect me". When looked at from that perspective maybe shuffling should be illegal. Lets face it, there just isn't alot of trophy water to be shared. The only thing that keeps me from blowing a gasket is the thought that they never experience the same satisfaction I do when fishing. How hollow the shuffler must feel when he reflects back and thinks to himself "man I chummed up some nice one's today". Questions; Do shufflers have backing on their fly-reels? Do you grow out of shuffling? Do you ever revert back to shuffling if you ever grow out of it? But hey I was snagged in outlet 3 by a shuffler. -
Thanks Phil. Just figured out I could do it myself. Hmmmm? Self flagellation. I probably deserve it. Just went to the grocery with my wife and daughter. 30 degrees feels like a heat wave compared to the last couple days. No trout in the Lou but it is definetly time to tee it up. Sorry again Phil. New license requirements for taney
snagged in outlet 3 replied to jscheetz's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I see what you mean. Before we head out to fish my buddies and I practice good manners. For instance we were staying at Lilley's and when my buddy Steve was ready, he asked me "Do these waders make my butt look big?". I said "no Steve you look great in them". Our day went better than ever and I could tell Steve felt good about his figure and he had a better attitude because of it. Snagged. -
Forsythian. That sounds like a blast. I think it's very rewarding to stalk and catch fish like that. Your luky to live in an area with such great opportunity. I assume you live in Forsyth. Not too many fish rising in the Ole Miss in the front of the Arch right now. Or ever for that matter. Enjoy! Snagged.

First off, who's the guide in question? I am sure he checks here so let's hear who it is. Is it rude for the guide to hold a spot while his client is fishing somewhere else? My favorite is the guy who brings his two teenage sons down with all the gear and stuff, then lines up three abreast to shuffle their way right down the middle of the river. How disturbing is that when it is being passed on to the next generation? I was below rebar and they didn't even get out of the river to go around, they just walked right in front of me. How about the guy who brings his significant other down and stands upstream from her, she holds the end of her line out to him, he shuffles and drops her fly in the water below his feet and screams "NOW, set the hook". Your bright green fly line is lying is on the water and the guy crossing the river steps on it. Do shufflers have backing on the reels? Taney is just too small for the amount of people using it. Some call it rock snot. Very bad stuff. So you haven't had any repeort of it in Taney? There is a little article about it in the current issue of The Missouri Conservation Magazine. Check this link. http://p222.ezboard.com/fflyfishingarkansa...opicID=32.topic Snagged.

Hey Phil. I was down staying and fishing out of your place Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th. I never got to tell you that I found didymo in the KOA hole. I didn't see it anywhere else but did see several strands while wading the north side, at the top end of the KOA area. I didn't think any had been reported in Taney. Is this the first you have heard of it? That stuff really ruined the area below Bull Shoals dam on the White River. Snagged.

Wading boots for sale
snagged in outlet 3 replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
Too late, Sold. Thanks for the forum Phil. Snagged. -
I have two pair of Hodgman Bantam Weight wading boots for sale. They have felt soles. They are advertized as very light weight and sell new for $54. They are size 10 and 11. I wore the size 10 once and the size 11 3 times. I had foot surgery and can't wear them anymore. I had two pair, so I could wear the 10 in the summer and the 11 in th winter with extra socks. $15 for each pair is all I'm asking. http://www.stearnsinc.com/Hodgman/NC_Produ...egoryID=7541679 Snagged.

Hey loo10 thanks for the invite. I live in StL and drive down to fish a lot of times by myself. I'll let you know when I come down again. I wish we could have hooked up this past Monday and Tuesday since I was by myself. You don't know how much I envy you guys that live near the lakes. Hoping to get away more the next few months. Even when those big fish miss the stick it is very exciting to see. Snagged.

I was there Monday and saw a guy keeping some on a metal stringer. I don't know if it was jdavis or gonefishin but I say keep em if you want. That's what it's there for. Trophies for some and lunch for others, what a great idea. The guy I saw was fishing above rebar. I do have one problem with it though, I didn't get an invitation to lunch. I hope no one thinks I'm a snob because of the buggy whip. I like to catch em on dries or swing a bugger or drift a scud but have you ever seen a brown maul a stick bait? Awesome!!!!! Snagged.

I Drove down from StL Monday morning to fish, camp that night and fish again Tuesday. First, when you wake up and and have to put a stocking hat on, IT'S COLD!!! The fishing was as good as I've seen it since the new reg's. Caught fish all day, both days, on a variety of flies and technigues. Swinging buggers, drifting scuds and an awesome dry fly bite in the afternoon. People all around me were hooking up. Loved that they blew the horn and didn't run water on Monday. I had the whole area below rebar to myself for an hour or so. And that hour was awesome. All rainbows and one brown. One male rainbow well over 20". I remember about 15 years ago I was fishing that area below rebar and wasn't doing particularly well when an old guy walks up beside me. He plunks down his worm container and lawn chair and starts rigging his baitcaster. He puts a big ole worm on and slings it out. He sits down and looks at me and says "how's fihing"? I told him I wasn't doing well when he sets the hook on a real nice fish and pulls it up on the rocks and puts it on a stringer. 4 nice trout later he packs up and leaves. I was thinking about that guy Monday when I got to catch those 18 - 20 inch trout. Only now they are still in there. Even with all the people a lot of fish were caught and I didn't see a shuffler. In fact, the crowd was very pleasant and respectful. What a great fishery! Thanks to all who helped to get the new reg's in place. Snagged.

Like I said I have seen your posts before and they never really caught any attention. Hey I'm glad about that. Ramblings of a crazy guy I guess. Don't fool yourself Phil, this place is catching on. Thanks so much for your time and talent. We're booked with you the weekend of Jan. 13th - 15th, but we're not the drunk trip guys. Coming down tomorrow and Tuesday but camping. Snagged.

Phil, Shhhhh!!!! 25 years and virtually no competition. Man, what a terrible thing to wake up to on Christmas morning. Somebody putting the word out on my private fishery. I'm gonna hate myself tomorrow for this post, but hey, it's Christmas. I am not a local but I have kept the secret passed on to me about Taney bass for some 25 years. I have never told anyone about this but since somebody atready spilled the beans and the old timer that told me about it has passed, I figure it's okay to talk about it now. First, I have only bass fished Taney alone. We would come down to bass fish The Rock in the summer heat with some friends and I would always come back in the morning with pictures of big bass when they couldn't catch a thing. I never did tell them I was driving over to Taney and bass fishing there. The guy who told me about it said it was the home of the biggest bass in Missouri and nobody would believe it even if you did tell them. I used to rent boats down in old town Branson and when I'm loading my baitcasting rods in the boat the guy that works there says "You might want to use a little lighter line and smaller baits on these trout". I didn't tell him I was going bass fishing down the lake. I've been down to powersite in that boat ramp inlet when bass were spawning everywhere. The guys trout fishing on the dock were laughing at me when I started throwing a big plastic lizard right up until the first of many big ole bass were slung on the bank. Nothing easier than fishing for spawners when the water is gin clear. Man those are some beautifully colored bass. Just in the past few years, since the old town dock shut down, I would rent Phil's boat and sneak my bass fishing equipment on board so I wouldn't tip anybody off around there. Over the years Phil would post up something about bass fishing Taney and it never really got any attention and the whole time I would hold my breath and hope it never did. I'd be willing to share my spots if anybody has a boat and invites me along. Coming down tomorrow and Tuesday to fly fish "FOR TROUT" by the dam and I'm really excited since I don't get to do it as much as I'd like. Snagged in outlet 3. P.S. I almost deleted this post so as not to draw anymore unwanted attention than it is already getting. Although after keeping the secret for so long it kinda feels good to let it out. Please practice catch and release and by all means take a camera.

Hey Greg. I had a pair of 3 year old Hodgman waders that started to leak in the lower leg area. I emailed customer service at Hodgman and explained that although the waders were 3 years old they only had about 75 days of fishing on them. I told them there was no visible sign of trama and they seem to just leak because of "workmanship". They told me to send them in and sure enough about two weeks later they called and apologized and let me know they sent out a new pair. The new pair were the new style of wader that they were selling at a higher price than I paid for the old style. Be honest and give them a chance to satisfy a customer. You never know. Snagged.

Hey Phil. Thanks for the forum and all the work you do to keep us guys entertained and informed that are far away from trout town. Thinking of coming down Thursday and Friday and was wondering about generation. I know it's not a sure thing but what do you think they'll run this week? I don't have a boat and want to wade. I look at the real time generation chart but haven't paid enough attention to get the pattern if there is one. Thanks. Snagged in outlet 3.
