  1. A fishing partner that has since retired used to own Norway lodge on Crane Lake. I always went in up the Gunflint or Rainy, they offered a service to ferry you into the park and closer to true wilderness without paddling the first day or two. It would be worth a look, sounded like a nice deal always. They rented canoes and whole campsite gear. I think his niece owns it now. Nice people.
  2. Curious does anybody catch any numbers? Their habits and habitat are diff than crappie or Bluegill, but will intermingle. The ones in the pictures are so skinny they look unhealthy. They do not suspend like a walleye will.
  3. Picked the one up out of westmarine on my acct. xtra 50. Now I need everything installed and wired.
  4. Got the bigger Garmin for the dash and a helix 7 for upfront. Liked both for different reasons, the display models anyway.
  5. That would be one of my knocks on Garmin their bottom contours and detail in bottom locations are inaccurate. claimed it was a licensing deal at one time. I will look at them this weekend.๐Ÿ‘Š
  6. I'm looking for my own xmas present, what's the difference between 93 and 94?
  7. Why all the love and Garmin switch over. Curious because I am upgrading and have a long history with Garmin, furuno and raymarine. I have had some runins with them over the years. Is the new Garmin stuff that much better and is it more geared toward tournament fishing? TIA

  9. This is positive, but not in any way permanent. The mine footprint itself consists of state issued permits and leases. I know using the EPA and original tact was illegal and subsequently neglected to pass the test of time. Be interesting to see if they try another draft or if the current state is maintainable. Things will go quiet for awhile I hope. The longer it drags on the less likely a mine is built in the last great place.
  10. In the 80's I had a 1949 Thompson 15 ft cedar strip without a bubble in the canvas and a small rot spot on the end of one rib. The original 7.5 1949 evinrude ran like a top. I had the best looking ride on the Menominee river for a couple years. My mother and father traded it for an antique piece of furniture when I was in college. I was ticked at the time. I miss that boat, it was a work of art and craftsmanship. I also owned a cedar strip Hoefgen that was an attempt by the company to branch out. Just too delicate and got tired of beating it up loading and unloading it. The rest are iterations of technology.
  11. Some crazy good smallie fishing on the prairie. You might have been one lake too far north on the missouri. Oahe is deep and cold.
  12. weird year, no traffic lots of small bows for me and they had a record escapement up the river. Talked to Jim before I left and he reiterated the stupid easy sockeye fishing. Was more than a million fish staged below the falls alone and no tourists at the park. worth the price of admission.
  13. Gov dropped the 14 day quarantine.
  14. They don't typically start spawning till middle of May in BP or Nade. I Turkey hunted up by boiling springs (gods country) and the river was extremely high and is unfishable right now. Headed to Stockton in the morning with an uncle with a place at Riddle. You could fish it, it just wouldn't be any good. It has been this way every year except one or 2 I think since the drought of 12. Frustrating if you don't have all summer to fish it. Lot easier to fish with the water reasonable and green IMHO. I never fish your river except off private way up wading.
  15. I wonder if the rain the last few springs is messing up their spawn. On low years you can watch them spawning against a rock or log in the slower water. This raging river situation has got to effect that I would think. IDK either way for sure.
  16. Thanks for the call๐Ÿ™ƒ Pretty early the leaves weren't even poking good. I was trying to get my youngest a turkey about then.
  17. Light colored fish for tanin water. Nice too.
  18. Nade has been blown out all spring AGAIN. Catch any good ones over 20?
  19. Been to SD, ND, and Green Bay. Going back to Green Bay. for memorial day. If I was interested in SM that much I would go to Sister Bay about then. Might go a day, but prefer Walleye and the Muskies have been good recently that same time frame. Not too hard to catch a big mouth carp off the reefs then or anytime up north really.๐Ÿ™‚
  20. where What?
  21. South Dakota is open and has great smallie fishing in the lakes around Watertown. Lake Oahe and Sharpe are also very good for big water fishing. All you have to do is find rocks. The locals throw them the banks.. There is fishing to be had cheaply and fun. All ready been this spring and going next week.
  22. Plane tickets will never be cheaper. The last time I saw them this cheap was commuting home for the holidays during the dot com bubble burst and during 2008 mortgage crash. Hotels are about 40% of average. A river to mostly to yourself in AK....Priceless. I have done it, but it's a rare beautiful thing. Staying out of town is the key. There won't be any crossing the border into Canada trips eh. I have all ready had my walleye fix for the spring. There are places wide open and better fishing than a guy can shake a stick at. That pot is right around the corner from Fred's place yesterday Phil. Been 30 years since the water warmed enough for the crab to be that thick. Past the tunnels is 40 plus Dungies.
  23. After the gong show with the Airlines and daily talks with the nice ladies at Alaska airlines I found out the issue was related to permits from the feds in order to add more flights. I called several charter companies in Anchortown looking for an easy way up. For an extra 150 each way you can charter your own float plane or wheelie into King salmon. Nobody knows how long the 14 day quarantine will last. Like most places it is becoming political, The borough managers figured out without the 5% landing tax the fleet pays and other taxes from the tourist segment they would cease to exist without a bailout. Like the stock market and most things, increased risk usually leads to higher rewards. The fishing could be epic with little competition.
  24. River looks really high, that's a good thing as low as it was this summer. They need a winter, I think we will get one here for sure. Pretty dead and shuttered up there this time of year. That guy with the beard is a short ball of fun! One of the most gifted fishermen I have personally ever seen. Looked like a fun trip.
