to eat going to or from the lake. Criteria- gotta be consistently good- has to have been in business over 10 years-under $10 including beverage (yes, I am cheap). Breakfast- White grill in Nevada. Love their mess (yes, its called Lou's mess) Booths and stools, in business before WW2. Lunch- Reds Drive-In in Greenfield. Best pork tenderloin around, and old fashioned burgers and malts. Anytime- Cookies in Golden City- true Americana- whole ham slices- great fried chicken- open faced beef sandwich, burgers, good pork tenders, and heavenly pies just staring at you. I believe it was established in 1942. Honorable Mention- Only because they haven't reached ten years yet- Tractor Bar B Q in Lamar. Breakfast lunch or dinner. Great service and food. What's yours? I think we've gone from non-venting fuel caps to just plain venting. LOL Just saying
-
these federal agencies that police us but no one polices them. Hear my story. Sold a 6 hp Tohatsu to a fine young fellow who happens to play football for OSU. He picked it up Friday, got back to Stillwater and took it out fishing. Ran fine. Got ready to come in, wouldn't start. Choked it(mistake). Still wouldn't start. Texted me at 1 am. Texted back to prime it. It started. Got a text that morning that it had randomly quit running several times while traveling just 2 miles back to ramp. Next morning I called Kim at Joplin Marine and he said don't choke a warm engine (true) but the reason it wouldn't restart was the EPA MANDATED vent on top of the filler cap has to be just right or it won't feed fuel, and if you screw it out too far it seals off again. They loosened the fuel cap a little and its still running. Just saying.

fPicked up the 12 yo grandson Friday morning and headed to Neosho MDC range, he shot some nice groups. Met a couple of OSU football jocks at the house and they bought my Tohatsu 4 stroke. Headed to Stockton, pattern had changed, only 2 crappie on flickers in 2 hours. Back on lake about 7 this morning, 5 drum and 2 green carp by 9, breakfast at cabin, back on lake about 11, 5 more drum and one more green carp, got tired of seeing all the shad just off bottom, put on 3 way w/ one ounce dropper ahead of flicker, 12 inch crappie, coulda shouda changed earlier, got hot, went to air conditioned big chair, woke up, weedeated lawn, still scratching chiggers but have had worse trips. Steve, I'm not really a cove fisherman. I would call these flats, but where on a normal year these would be too shallow , they are now 20-25 fow. Deeper water is near and some stumps near also. Not a brush pile fisherman either, although Stockton is a brushpile lake. There are a lot of fry near the banks, in the trees right now, but I did see shad just off the bottom in 20-23 fow. That 1.5 mph is probably the key. Did make a run around deeper trees in 40 or so fow but no luck, didn't even see anything interesting. The graph on that boat isn't high tech, a Lowrance dsi4, purely down imaging black and white, w/ gps, and crappie show up on it as dots. Those small shad piles might be interesting to drag your bottom bouncer thru. Stockton is known for a NOON bite. Hope you find some, OGHFM

I use number 7, and the Pro model worked better than the original today

today cause I left the Super Guide in the garage and took ye olde Arkansas Traveler, it'll float in a ditch. Same pattern except they refused all colors but firetiger. 8 caught, 7 keepers, avg 23 fow and 1.7 mph. Seen a lot of shad just off the bottom in 20-23 fow. Me thinks the eyes are hanging out in the trees (shade) during the day and easing out for those shad as the sun sets, but I'm wrong more often than right. 14 fillets will be released to the grease at a later date.

To launch the boat today. Only fished bout 2 and a half hours w/ grandson and his buddy. Boated 7 crappie, 6 were keepers. Flicker shad in firetiger and purple, 23-6 fow, 1.5 mph, lunch at Reds, home by 2. Nice day w/ the boys.

Hey, wheres your report from Sons creek trip? Went there today and somebody beat me to my secret spot.

They were all ok. Happened Friday just after dark. They were getting it on the trailer about 11 am sat.

Caught 7 yesterday, 6 Friday and 14 Thursday. They aren't prespawn , they are off the brushpiles and seeking shad and the shad are 16-24 ft on the bottom where I'm catching them. I occasionally see a line 6 ft off the bottom but they have whites after them. Warmest temps have been 55 in the pm. I've been working sloping flats w/ 35 fow nearby. When the water was really stained a roadrunner tipped w/minnow was working, but the water had cleared some yesterday and they preferred the rockport rattler, with a little slab jam on the joker skirt, black/chartreuse was best. sloooow. Have caught several nice ones and only 2 shorts over that 3 day period. Not saying minnows won't work, but I don't believe that they make much difference until much later. Hope you find some. OGHFM

On this post, fished Thursday pm and Friday am on south end. 14 nice crappie thurs, 6 Friday. The wind was closer to nil Friday, don't think it was moving the shad as much, seen 52 degrees surf temp, no bait fish any shallower than 15. A couple of lines at 15 held crappie and white bass. Most were caught at 18 plus or minus a foot sucking mud. Drop double jigs to bottom, pick up slack then one full crank. Half thumped, half just a nudge. Roadrunner/joker w/ minnow tip, me thinks nibble tip would have worked as well, all released--------to the grease. OGHFM

I could see the jig at 8-12 inches

Put in near Ruark about noon Sat. Fished 26-30 ft flats for crappie, scattered shad on bottom w/ a few lines at 20-22 ft. some within larger fish on them. Only 7 keepers, 4 by fishing buddy, 3 by grandson, 0 by oghfm☹️ Adjourned to cabin for smoked ribs, then trailered to dam. Put in about 5:30 hunting eyes. Tried jerk bait, no luck, switched to minnow tipped road runner, 1 white bass each for me and buddy, 1 23 inch, 4 lb walleye for 12yo grandson. Not sure who was the most excited, but pretty sure he is hooked on fishing. Back to cabin for shuteye/ self analysis. Back on lake down south about 10 am, yielded to roadrunner option, several white bass, 5 keeper crappie apiece for me and buddy, grandson only managed 1 from front of boat, obviously paying for his nice eye the previous night. Bite was slow and soft but w/ promise for future, lake 3 ft high as well as our spirits. Grandson definitely won the weekend.

Me too. Think I'll try the secret spot!

Good luck pard, went today, on the water about10, fished CC, pretty much nil on shad, water temp 39, worked the breaks and the flats and was skunked, nothing, zero, zilch. Hind sight tells me I shouda went to the brush piles near the main lake. It was really clear at the bridge. I believe a little stain would of helped. Wish I had something more promising to tell you, but it's been terribly quiet on here. The empty parking lot at CC was my first clue.

Went with a guide one time on Eufaula Lake in Oklahoma. He said the limit was 37 a day and he expected to have 3 limits in 6 hours. I thought man this guy is full of himself. We had 110 crappie in 6 hours. His name is Todd Huckabee and his understudy at that time was Barry who now guides on Truman. I still use his techniques and they do work. Me believes the hardest part of guiding would be dealing w/ the public. I wanted to get better at crappie fishing, the big bag of fish was just a bonus. Other people will have different goals. Todd wasn't a big talker but what he did present would stick with you. Give it a trial run, don't give up your day job till you're sure its for you. There are no licensure requirements that I'm aware of on Stockton. I would gladly pay to be your guinea pig cause the more I fish for eyes the less I believe I know. Best of luck OGHFM

Best excuse ever for not fishing this weekend-- your freezers full! You da man!
-
for not going fishing this weekend, and you can't use "too hot" or "couldn't get a kitchen pass". Mine is "had to sort sock drawer".

If you were at Casey's about 10 am filling up a Crestliner 1850 w/ a kicker I talked to you for a bit. If not, loved that guys boat. Either way glad you enjoyed the lake.

Bout got blowed out of the boat while crappie fishing in 26 fow on Stockton two weeks ago. They were coming by at a good clip then slowed down to about 5 mph. Created a tsunami that threw me against the console. Mighta yelled something. Then last week another two guys come by real nice and slow and waved while I was holding a flicker shad. Like a nice guy I waved back and run the treble all the way thru my finger. Me thinks if they had known how really stupid I am they would have ignored me. Safety is no accident.
