  1. Depends how far off plane you come and on the boat. My boat plows bad above about 5mph if it's not planed out. It is better for me to go by someone at 30mph than 10mph. That said, if there isn't ample room it is safer to just cut it down to idle and get past the traffic. Idle isn't always possible if trying to avoid other boats going too fast through a tight spot. Worst case would rather throw a wake than have a collision.
  2. Haven't been on Pomme much over the years except when a co-worker kept a boat at Nemo Marina for a few years. Bad weekend to be on the water I know, but the wife wants to go out for a boat ride and I don't want to go all the way to Stockton. What would be the best ramp that may be the least busy this weekend?
  3. Until we know how the two in the water died, either drowning or trauma, it is hard to say how fast they were going. One of the victims was still in the boat, that would lead me to believe that the speed was high enough to cause massive trauma. I would think even a dead stop at 15 mph could do it. Still lot of things not adding up to me. They ran aground near Simmons Point and the injured driver was able to paddle an 18-20 ft runabout back across the channel? That is quite a feat by itself, but would have to think the boat would be so damaged it would have taken on a lot of water.
  4. I am not very familiar with that part of the lake to know what they might have hit or if there is something that fools people. I know it was very foggy Saturday morning in Jeff City. My depth perception is terrible on the water at night unless there is a full moon
  5. This is why I am curious to know whose boat it was. Was it the less drunk 5th wheel guy relegated to driving back home while the two couples are in back fooling around and boat guy just tells him to go towards the dark because dock lights will show you the shore? The LE report said that he paddled to shore, so that may lead me to think it was his boat as a novice wouldn't know where to find the paddle. On the other hand, it would not be easy to paddle a 18-20 runabout back to shore imo. Maybe something here doesn't add up
  6. Saw one story that said a lake resident called 911 around 1:45am. The crash happened closer to midnight. So, he got back into the boat, probably tried to find his friends at first, then paddled to a dock, then found someone home and willing to answer the door. LE on scene some time between 1:45 and 4am. Another resident in the area said they were awakened by a loud sound around midnight, stuck there head out the back door, didn't hear or see anything and went back to bed.
  7. KRCG-TV reporting that the driver has been arrested for BWI.
  8. Hard to think that it wasn't involved somehow. Beyond that, I always have so many questions that run through my mind on something like this other than kids just making bad decisions. Did any of them know the lake, whose boat was it, could there have been a mechanical issue, etc, etc. I let my dog out at 4am and it was foggy as all get out, so was weather a factor? Regardless, prayers up to those affected by this tragedy.
  9. Looks like all were early 20s and in a runabout. Tragic. Driver survived and was able to get to a dock to call for help.

  11. Welcome to the forum. On the east parking lot of Ruark Bluff public use area near the swim beach there used to be a public fishing dock. It isn't marked real well and there is a short path through the brush. It was an old barge of some sort. Using minnows or worms under a float could always catch fish there. About 10 min drive from state park.
  12. I like taking the barely legal bass and cutting the fillets into strips or little nuggets.
  13. I am surprised there was anything left in that old shack in any kind of recognizable condition or that the shack is still there. I can recall coming across what was likely an old milk barn one time during deer season, but it was falling in and over grown with brush. You could tell from some trash and writing on the walls plenty of people had been by it over the years. And it seemed to be in a pretty remote area. About 1/2 mile through the trees after a boat ride and over 3 miles from the closest road. It wasn't even along an "old" road.
  14. Quit being a cheapskate and hire a local guide for at least half a day to hopefully get on some fish or at least learn the ropes. I am sure your guide will give you some pointers for where to wade fish out of a kayak. Go it alone the rest of your stay after that. Find a local tackle & bait shop and get someone talking
  15. I am old enough to remember when you would almost never see a jet ski or a pleasure boat pulling a skier or tuber. You would see a bass boat or lake jon pulling tubers when the fam came to the lake, but that was it. Honestly, it is a miracle that Stockton isn't busier. Such beautiful shoreline and big coves shielded from the wind.
  16. Not sure if this applys to Corps land/water, but it could I suppose. I know when tailgating for MU games you better not get caught with alcohol if you parked in the VA lot https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/41/appendix-to_part_102-74
  17. In general it is highly illegal to carry firearms or consume alcoholic beverages on federal property
  18. Do you think Ameren is trying to discourage development finally? What happens when Ameren doesn't want to run the dam anymore? Sell it to the Corps?
  19. Pomme and Stockton are two feet high. The water is there
  20. Larger tributaries and more water to warm up
  21. Greenfield meth heads
  22. Dawned on me recently that I don't think I have seen a boat out after dark on Taneycomo aside from a few around the landing to watch the fountains. Saw some guys bow fishing one night up river from Lilleys along the bank, but that is it. I know it can be tricky during daylight, but what keeps some die hards from night fishing from a boat? Handling the current, fog, bad fishing, etc?
  23. Point 9 1/2 has some humps from old roads and pond dams that can be good to troll over
  24. The ol' 5 gallon does the trick too. We also used to catch bait and drift the flats outside Googer Creek in summer. Walleye when the sun was high and catfish at night.
