Gary Borger has written on trout vision numerous times, all interesting whether I believe him or not, some of his articles are here http://www.garyborger.com/category/trout-biology/trout-vision/ http://www.finefishing.com/flies/colorovision trout.htm

https://www.americanangler.com/what-trout-see/ That is a bright day, not one I would expect great results on, bright sun cast shadows, shadows scare wild fish because birds eat fish and birds make shadows. Fly lines make shadows, sneaky anglers make shadows too, just a thought. If walking the bank, I'd try to stay away from the water's edge by 50' or so, believe this helps with noise transmission through the earth. Knelling and crawling can help with approach by keeping my head out of the trout's window. I think I can get closer to fish if I'm in the water with them than I can on the bank, but that may just be what I want to believe, although by wading so slowly that I make no splashes or gurgles I have come very close to many fish over the years. Moving upstream has several advantages over moving downstream, primarily because the fish are looking upstream and I will be behind them, but also because the water will carry any sound I make or mud that kick up right to them if I am upstream but it will take the noise and mud away from the if am downstream. That picture is begging for a size 14 ant to be bounced off a leaf and dropped into the shadow at the very edge of the water. The leaf movement will attract attention and the splash will be a dinner bell.

yeppers, them old cars have character. Stories they'd tell if they could talk. Probably all the prettiest places have amusement parks nowadays.

Sling or sling shot, those fork sticks were catapults and the bean shooter was made with clothes pins. 3' is too long for you sling strings though that should about make both strings, one longer for securing to your finger and a shorter one for release. We also made a rock thrower from a corn stalk by hollowing out a pocket in one end and swinging it like an atlatl, stop like a fly rod and the rock would sing through the air. I was a heck of a rock thrower with all of them and my hands too. You can stun a rooster by hitting it's head or apply more speed and dispatch him and you can flop a cotton tail right over. Rocks are deadly weapons and should be banned. Those catapults with the surgical tubing and a 3/8'' ball are dangerous too.

well, shoot I'm back to the shoe string and boot tongue then, I used to take birds down with homemade slings. I'm at an age now where acting like a child is acceptable again, (not sure they'll let me play with a pellet gun though; "you'll shoot your eye out") . Surgical tubing was the original source of the Daisy rubbers, someone got hold of some and we made some longer catapults with heavy wire twisted for the braces. I never did find out how they used that in surgery, probably been replaced with a laser.

Is this a racist thing?

Do it after dark. I think the bigger fish wait til the rush hour is over.

It's a Daisy!! Shoots round balls. Major upgrade of the Red Ryder. Possibly the ultimate in stealth shooting. F16- B52

Dose that dog with pure skunk extract enough times and the people will get rid of it. Just a couple drops at a time, dogs love smelling nice. https://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/animal/WCSSKUNK.html

I am saving up for either a B52 or an F16. I think the F16 is more concealable.

Still $$ there if you skin and prep the meat the last I knew, lot's of cities have buyers, St Louis used to have. For several years the baculum had a good market, not sure if that's still true, I see home tanned pelts at pretty steep prices in flea markets and such. You don't have to sell to the Chinaman if you are willing to work a bit. That market may be gone for good this time. I haven't looked lately, but til Russia has money to spend 'coons won't be much of an export item. "shame the fur trade has gone downhill." Trappers and hunters wearing plastic hats and synthetic clothing sets the example not to wear fur or goods made from fur. I stopped by the National Trappers big show at Springfield last summer and saw no trappers or their ladies wearing fur.

No I don't, I have six or eight hammers.

.22LR will not always penetrate their skulls, not sure if the pellet would either, back when I hunted I've skinned several 'coons that had a .22 between the skull bone and the skin; brother didn't miss like he thought he did. Those trappers on that list above are supposed to be interested in doing nuisance work, they are in the two districts nearest you, they should have the tools and means to fix your problems.

ball peen hammer, be quick

I've seen 'coons tear those traps apart.

These outfitters don't encourage DIY either of four that I checked one didn't offer shuttle and two charged the same for shuttle as for rental. I can only think of three places to put in that you wouldn't have to pay. Water had dropped a lot by Sunday, I was flood trapped at home Sat. but got out Sun.
-
SIO3, we don't know that they were, but 23 rescues over the weekend and 21 on a single day is indicative of a lot more people on the river than one would expect from the few accesses available to diy. And while the river was below the official "Flood" stage it was carrying about 6-7,000 CFS when the median for this week is about 646 CFS

Yes! that was in reply to Al's comment, he has more faith in his "livery" people than I have in the local "outfitters" . I don't believe any outfitter should have been open on the Elk this weekend but they were. Little Sugar was two feet deep over our bridge and kayakers were saying how good the float was, a fellow told me Sunday how the creek was perfect fishing on Saturday, when I asked if he'd seen any channel cat he said ''oh the water was too muddy to see anything"
-
Right off the website of an Elk outfitter
-
Bet it all ends up in the Gulf, just a matter of time. A little over 2'' last night and Little Sugar is up to full, it's going down and is at ~3400CFS when normal is ~ 200CFS at this season.

You'd never have to get into a cold bed.

I remember when they did that pile wall at Beaver, I was fishing that tail water regularly back then. But as I recall they weren't too worried about losing the dam over the seepage, at least they didn't talk about it as being an immediate concern.
