Presidents are career limited. Limit on a term is the terms end, and the pols that get reelected don't do that on their own- they can only be reelected if the voters want them to. We do need voter identification and we mostly need a literacy requirement for eligibility to vote. Every citizen alive today has had free schooling, there is no reason they should not be able to comprehend what they read. This country is where we are not because of lousy politicians but because of lousy voters. Something to think about though before we set career limits on the Congress, is a Senator is eligible for a pension after one term. So we can have a 100 career Senators that never draw a retirement or we can have 1-2000 one term Dilberts all collecting pensions for many many years. The one term wonders will be just as crooked as the lifers there will just be lots more of them.

Didn't all the mass shootings in the USA take place in gun free areas where the shooter felt safe from retaliation? Has there ever been a mass shooting anywhere in a room/building where most of the occupants were armed?

Term Limits. Just cap the salaries at 1.5 the poverty level and no pensions until 15 years service. Let their salaries be set and adjusted the states. The terms are already limited to 6 years and 2 years and that's probably as short as they need to be, else we'd be paying for elections all the time.
