  1. Well after spending some time around the Riverside Inn bridge area, we've fished there, when busy with swimmers, and NOT busy with swimmers, with good luck. Several nice holes and eddies near brush piles where you can pull smallmouth out on lures, and worms, and theres always bluegill and pumpkinseed to be had. We took advantage of the 4th of July sale at Menards, and bought two K1 Challenger inflatable kayaks, and have had good success up and down the river between Riverside Inn and the park. For the most part, the people at the river are always nice, talkative, and when there are disruptive people, most everyone bands together to kind of stave the bad influences off.
  2. Been hanging out at the park, and a little ways upstream near the riverside bridge area. Got two kids who love playing in the river and are just starting to think they are interested in fishing. We will have another day to hang together Thursday, and I'm wanting to actually plan a trip to the river this time instead of show up and make it work. Any recommendations where two 10 yr olds and an adult could expect to fish without having tons of swimmers and people around? We can go anywhere a 71 beetle can get to, and we have some small rafts and paddles that can get into areas a medium canoe or kayak could, but I'll be dragging the youngsters. All of us are okay with wading and hiking. I've got basic tackle with some senkos, and topwater stuff, and a few small fake crawdads, and of course, we will bring nightcrawlers.
  3. Greetings. Just a hobby fisher, with some floatables and two 9/10yr old girls that love to be out on rivers and fish. Been trying to make the Finley a good getaway spot with fair to middling success, but figured the real way to get familiar around here is learn from the pros/natives. Grew up in the Nevada/Bolivar area, got married and moved to deep Oklahoma red dirt territory. Finally moved back here to the land where things are actually green in the summer. Mainly good at catching sunfish and bluegill and smallies now and then. Definitely willing to learn more so the kids and I can have fun.
