  1. Wow really ? I didn't know this was an issue with lithium. I am considering adding a lithium battery and electric outboard for my boat.
  2. What do you think the minimum hp needed to run up river in that area and Sullivan would be? I've got a small 12 ft square back canoe, and it's rated for 3hp. Wondering if I get a motor if I can run against the current a little ways up and float back down so I don't have to deal with shuttling.
  3. Anyone know of a real small, lightweight, and narrow trailer I could look for on the used market? I don’t really want to get into the trailer towing world again, and dealing with lights and wheel bearings etc, but might be worth a shot to keep my eyes out for since I do have a garage and would make transporting this boat a lot easier. here’s the canoe:
  4. Well, I tried out something with a friend of mine and it didn’t work. we removed the ball and attached a 2”reciever made for ATVs in its place. Looked perfect. 12 bucks. we got it on there, slid the Truck Bed Extender in to it, and my bumper just bent like crazy. It could hardly hold the torque of just the weight of the truck bed extender itself. we tried this because after looking at the bottom of my bumper, it didn’t seem like there was room to try one of the “proper” Step Bumper Recievers, like the 3500lb or 5000lb rated ones I discussed earlier in the thread but nope, that bumper is freaking WEAK! So I returned everything and I’m back to square one. That would have been about a $12 fix to a $200+ problem. (Good lesson to learn…there ARENT ANY $12 fixes to two hundred dollar problems!) As we suspected here, I’m going to need to get a real trailer hitch installed if I want to extend my truck bed properly, and that will run me about $225 at uhaul I think. Not sure I’m that invested in this right now so probably won’t do anything about it
  5. This is what the underside of my bumper looks like. And this is what the receiver looks like. Seems like I'll need to remove the trailer ball to get it out of the way
  6. Oh like this?! https://www.harborfreight.com/5000-lb-step-bumper-receiver-69670.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12144811130&campaignid=12144811130&utm_content=117789305438&adsetid=117789305438&product=69670&store=78&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_4-SBhCgARIsAAlegrWQ2cbcRisc4_FysUH-Q24mzNkNFhhj13-OADfR-qG9_3XeaCgnSoMaAl6BEALw_wcB Frick how did I not see this earlier...
  7. I was not aware I could "bolt a 2" receiver on to the bottom of my existing step bumper." That indeed sounds ideal (not overkill, not hard, light easy etc). Can you tell me more how that would be done? and if the resulting bed extender I'd plug into it could likely support 7ft of canoe?
  8. Yeah this is an interesting point. My short bed truck is 4ft, with another 2 ft with the tailgate down. So a total of 6ft. The canoe is 13ft, so more than half of it hangs out the back if just strapped in. My goal was to support it, as lightly as possible, by using something like this https://www.harborfreight.com/truck-bed-extender-69650.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12144811130&campaignid=12144811130&utm_content=117789305278&adsetid=117789305278&product=69650&store=78&gclid=CjwKCAjw_tWRBhAwEiwALxFPoZwNB2yn5B7h6UPoj3rXgdNFCMZQMNmmTJgDcb3XsEfMEhaCS2UVDhoCGjgQAvD_BwE I would transport the canoe upside down on that. Speaking of being young and strong etc...I am, but the whole reason I'm wanting to transport this in the truck bed instead of on top of the vehicle is because it's a pain to get it on top of the truck by myself. Just picking it up a few feet and sliding it in the truck bed sounds much nicer physics-wise. I know how to do the one man car top load thing, where you angle one end on the top of the truck and then dead lift the other end, and rotate it on top. but still...
  9. Hello, I have a smal truck and I’d like to get a trailer hitch reciever installed on the bottom of it. Currently I just have the ball mounted into the rear bumper, but I am looking to use one of those truck bed extenders that connects to a trailer hitch reciever. This will make loading and unloading my canoe a lot easier than getting it on the roof of my truck. I think I just go to a U Haul store to get this done, but I was wondering if anyone had recommendations of a better or cheaper or more knowledgeable place in the St. Louis area? Like a place that specializes in trailers/towing? if not, uhaul it is! thanks
  10. Sry - "South county" is a term they use around St. Louis....It means you live in St. Louis county (not the city), and in the southern part of it. Battery outfitters looks nice but I don't know that I'll need much "installation" here. Half the time I'm hoping to just throw this thing in the water with no motor at all and just paddle around. I guess I will need to think about putting the battery up front though for "ballast" and all that... Aren't interstate batteries pretty high end, or no? Thanks for the input guys!
  11. I think it will be for the trolling motor only 99% of the time. I do have a humminbird depth finder if I wanted to pull that out but I don't really envision that being a common occurrence based on where I want to fish. I don't know anything about lithiums. Will look into that In terms of where I am...I live in South County currently
  12. Hey folks, my square back canoe is finally coming together after some refinishing and I'm looking to get it on the water soon with my 55lb thrust motor. I haven't bought a marine deep cycle battery in so long that I wanted to ask what the current situation is on those... What's your recommendations? Bass pro? Walmart? Any good warranty considerations to be aware of? And any deals?
  13. ...she was blonde, with glasses, cigarette in her mouth of course
  14. If you're at Bojangles try the boberry biscuit...it's like blueberries and icing in a biscuit. Sugar bomb for sure...will make you sick..but crazy tasty
  15. I'm planning on spending a night or two near Bennett springs in order to float/shuttle with a buddy in his boat. I could camp but think I'd prefer getting a room or a little cabin if it won't break the bank. Any suggestions around there for places to stay indoors? I was looking at the smallest cabins at riverfront camp canoe, but it looks like you have to book a float with them to reserve those. Since we don't need a shuttle or a watercraft I guess this place won't work https://riverfrontcampcanoe.com
  16. Thanks for checking back in! After I saw your message I went ahead and ordered one. Looking forward to my trip in a couple weeks!
  17. Thanks for this great info. Could I do a similar thing for this Greer to Turner float where I stay somewhere near the take out? Also, it takes you 4.5 hours to GC??? It says it should take me 3 to GC, but maybe I live in a different part of St Louis than you. I generally feel that Google maps is a little faster than I actually drive, but not by an hour and a half.
  18. Fishing from the beach in SW Florida
  19. Anyone have a WF9I line they’re wanting to part with?
  20. Ok cool...I mean, I wouldn't be fishing below Riverton based on what I wrote. Not sure if you read it as such. But I appreciate the response. I'll look into doing it that way and staying at Greer.
  21. Hello all, I've been finding my way around the trout landscape of Missouri a bit the last 9 months or so I've lived here, and I'm interested in making a trip to the eleven point happen this year. I'd like to fish it for trout or Smallmouth. Don't really care, although in terms of fly fishing I only really have the gear to do that with multiple people for trout (I don't have two 6wt+ rods) I'm interested in getting your suggestions of a simple trip itinerary to make this happen, leaving from St. Louis (3.5hr drive). I would say I and my party likely don't have a ton of "stamina" when you include driving and fishing on the same day, so that's why I'm going for simple. I'd love to just get to see this place because it sounds and looks so beautiful, and I'm sure my girlfriend and whoever I have with me will be blown away too. I have a kayak, but I'm not committed to using it if it's just simpler to rent something from an outfitter, and I'll have one or two people with me likely so they'll need something to float in as well. Here's what I'm thinking might be simplest. Friday evening: drive 1 car 3.5hrs to Riverton/Hufstedlers and camp Saturday Morning: Rent watercraft (canoe or raft or 2 more kayaks (since I can bring mine)). Get shuttle from canoe outfitter to Whitten. Day: Float and fish the 4-6 hours back to Riverton. (I'm seeing that it's a 4-6 hour float, which once you add in fishing, will be plenty of time on the water for one day) Night: camp again at Riverton Sunday morning: pack up and drive home. ------ This allows us to take one car and not deal with shuttling ourselves. Also allows us to take our time on the river and fish and not feel rushed to get to the end. I expect your answers will depend on the time of year, rain, and water flows so I'll have to take that into account Alternatively we could scratch the camping gear which would make things even simpler, and rent a room in a vacation rental like at Hufstedlers. Sleep there both nights just like the camping itinerary above Thoughts? Thanks!
  22. With the weather being in the 60s tomorrow I am planning on getting out. I was thinking LP or somewhere on the Meramec. But I see now that it's going to be raining some overnight through the region. I have read that you gotta be careful with the Ozark streams because they can rise quickly without warning. Well...how do I prepare for that? Do you just adjust which spot you're looking to go to in the first place? Is there anything else you can do? As in, if the rain/higher water will be coming downstream tomorrow, should I avoid a bigger drainage like the Meramec (around Maramec spring park, cardiac hill etc.)? And instead go to LP? Or is LP so small that it will be washed out? What are the types of things you guys think about as you plan to fish during and after a little rain? Thanks for helping me learn!
  23. Also, I too have a YouTube channel...but it's burgeoning. Not nearly as developed as this drewlooknfishy
  24. I suspected he was from around here because of some of the Ozarks stuff I've seen him post. ...and yeah, he does fine. Catches plenty of fish. And a good saltwater fisherman too. He's so close to the fish in that shot because he's tighlining I think
