  1. good reports. really does seem on good cloudy days the best bite is up on the bank. bo
  2. that largemouth is really a nice chunk!! bo
  3. it is actually elam creek. not for sure if i spelled it right. most do refer to it as sawmill though. the actual sawmill is the next pocket downstream. and, back in "yesteryear" fletcher's devil dive resort was in the actual sawmill pocket. bo
  4. i will just say that the guy that owns that dock and lives right up the hill has been a friend for many years. and, back in the day when the eagle rock area had plenty of big bass, i have caught several big ones out past the dock on the creek channel ledge. there used to be a big wad of cedar trees out there. there is not much left out there but a few sticks anymore though. bo
  5. couple of nice bass. they sure seemed to be scattered with no real pattern. bo
  6. looks like a lifetime supply!! bo
  7. eagle rock might, but am not really for sure. i really think that there is not anyone open. bo
  8. here are a couple of pics of 3/4 i used the other day with the bluegill skirt. there were some issues with the painter not curing the paint long enough, but hopefully that issue has been resolved. bo
  9. very nice spot!! that one really ate the crankbait. seems like the bass must be moving up and down in their feeding. good conditions and wind, seems like a shallow bite is working. post front, sunny and windless got to go deeper. great information. bo
  10. perhaps the extra weight made the difference. speed is a trigger factor that needs to be explored just about every time out. if you are fishing with a buddy, it sure does not hurt for having different weights on to begin with to see if it is making a difference to the bass. most of the time, it makes a big difference. bo
  11. champ i have noticed that your bass only like war eagle spinner baits . guess we both have them trained to bite what we like to throw. bo
  12. since we had bounced a spoon on the bottom in the same area at 60ft., i was quite surprised to get a bite on the jig. too many people let fishing deep get to them. in all actuality, it is the same as fishing in 6 inches of water. it just takes longer to get to the bottom. what i should have tried yesterday, but did not because of the small amount of time we had, was to use a 1/4 NuJig coupled with at least a 1/2 oz. bullet weight added to the line. they just might have bit the smaller profile better, but it would require adding the sinker to have enough weight for fishing at those depths. it just seems that the bass are just really scattered. it is the trolling motor pattern. put the trolling motor down and keep fishing . bo
  13. decided to get out and brave the cold for a bit this afternoon. was really interested in seeing if there were any big shad schools bunched up, but never found any at all. so, we dug out a couple of 3/4 Blitz football jigs and dinged around in Big Creek. caught about 15 in a couple of hours with 3 being keepers. about half and half lmg and kentuckies. there was not any pattern to the depth of bites, 15 to 60 feet deep. yep, caught 2 right on the bottom 60 ft. deep. two bites were in 15, and the bulk 35 to 50. bluegill was our best color with a green pumpkin trailer. by the way, i used 50# florescent braid, and the guy fishing with me was using 12# floro, and i caught most of the bass. would i have caught more bass using floro??, or does it not make any difference in color and type of line?? guess you be the judge , but i have used florescent line for daytime fishing for eons, and braid is such an advantage when fishing extreme depths for hook setting. bo
  14. kentuckies have always loved black and red for some reason. i have some tied with straight bright orange for night fishing in the moon of march. must have something to do with the stage of the crawdads, but many have sat in the boat and were begging to have one to fish with before the night was over. for winter fishing, the crawdads here have quite a bit of green and orange in them. bo
  15. shows that being versatile pays off! do not stick with one style of fishing. keep changing until you find something that is working. bo
  16. SWEET!! just too bad the weather did not permit some more of that fun. bo
  17. jozark, i would love to get to try the nothern brownies sometime. you are right about tying some with hair. i tie them with hair also for colder water applications. but, never discount how well a hair jig will work in the summer at times. i keep some in the boat at all times just because you never know when it is the difference maker. bo
  18. guess only time will tell what is going to happen after this extended cold wave. most likely the water temps will drop to the mid 50's. just where the bass are going to end up depends on where the food chain goes. i would guess that the bait fish will head for deeper water, especially with the rapid drop. bo
  19. no, the welders helmet for daytime fishing is to make it look dark, and then i can catch them . bo
  20. thanks for the great info fishinwrench. i, too have seen lower units scattered for this reason. always reverse procedure when putting things back. bo
  21. we put in just before dark. i put on a welders helmet to fish during the day. bo
  22. dediced on one more night outing, and given the wind forecast, which did not happen, decided to try the kings. not too bad of an outing. 6 keepers with three of those in the 3 to 3 1/2 range. caught everything on a bluff 15 to 20 ft. deep. with the bass being this deep at night explains why the daytime shallow bite is not there. started out catching them on a 1/2 oz. Blitz football jig, but before we quit, they seemed to change and go for a 3/8 oz. NuJig. we did try a blade also, but not one bass. the water temp was 61. bo
  23. really not a bad day. i believe the bass are really in the process of moving. given the weather that is coming and how much the water temps will drop, the food chain may be heading deeper, and if so, so will the bass. bo
  24. sure not any pattern. bait seems to be scattered as the bite seems to be. bo
  25. that is a dandy crappie. bo
