  1. it sure was champ, and we caught lots of bass at night on the blue with white tail back in the day. put on a big sinker and rumble them down through the cedars. on further fishing note, the spinner bait bite has went away. there are still some bass around, but they are only biting something pretty small. i have been taking a 7 inch ring worm and pinching the first have of the body off, and putting it on the 1/8 crappie jig, and that has been catching plenty of bass, but have to sort through several to get a keeper. bo
  2. the snatrix had a snake type tail instead of a g-tail. bo
  3. did not remember the other two sizes champ. seemed like the 5 inch was what we used all the time. there should be something similar in size and action if i took the time to look around. that snatrix on a light presentation was very effective in the right conditions. bo
  4. the snatrix was a small swimming tail worm about 5 inches and had a snake shaped head. bo
  5. took another swing at big m last night. ended up with 8 keeps, but they were all just keepers, nothing over 16 inches. had 4 kentuckies and 4 lmg. the spinner bait bite was much slower. bluffs had hardly any of the minnow activity. they were all on very flat shallow banks and a few back in the back end of some shorter pockets. i caught 4 of the keepers on the 3/8 black widow with a nickle #7 colorado blade. the other 4 keepers came on an 1/8 crappie jig that is about to go into production. i put a 4 inch weenie worm on it, and fished it on 4lb. test line. these bass were all in the back end of pockets where there was lots of minnow activity and i could not get a bite on a blade. i was sure wishing for a handful of the old snatrix or something similar. i believe that something along the line of that snatrix would have really caught them. i did this post once already and before i could send it, the power blinked and there went about an hour of typing. bass are on the move, but just where?? who knows. just have to go round them up every trip. if it were easy, then it would not be any fun. bo
  6. that is good to know that a spook bite is getting started. makes me wonder if they might bite a redfin early in low light. thanks for the info. bo
  7. i would think that on a good cloudy day with a bit of breeze, they will be up. just have to try some different techniques to figure out what will get bites. the minnow activity on the bank is a key though, i think. bo
  8. year before last leonard and i transplanted close to a 100 brownies at eagle rock. the next spring we had someone tell us that they had caught a limit of keeper brownies off of the bridge fill at eagle rock, and another caught some on the channel end across and below from the eagle rock dock, but really have not heard of any others. we do have plans to give it another go this fall. sure would be nice to have some of them to catch closer to the house. bo
  9. nice brownie champ!!! sure wish we had a bunch of them up here. up here meaning eagle rock. seems like you can always find a few of them biting. sure love catching them, but it is a long trip to put in downstream. bo

  11. well, our little outing dinging around the big m area turned out not too bad. it was a spinner bait bite. did not catch the numbers, but had better quality. ended up with 6 keepers with three of those in the 3 to 3 3/4 range. of the three smaller keeps two were around 2 3/4 and the last was a keeper kentucky. all were caught on the black widow with a # 7 colorado blade. we tried several sizes and types of blades, and the # 7 was the deal. we were fishing the 3/8 weight. one other thing that i noticed was there was lots of minnow activity on the bank where we did catch fish. bo
  12. going with one of my retired buddies from emarld beach tonight and see if we can spinner bait a few. been catching lots of little ones doing this, but very few keepers. but, hey, they have lips and fins and put a bend in the rod. can't be all bad. bo
  13. i need to get busy and start transplanting some at eagle rock, and see if we can get them going around there. sure would be nice to get them hanging around there too. it would be a whole lot easier if the mdc would just do some stocking programs. sound like you have catching quite a few lately!! i think the shallow bite in some areas is going to keep getting better. it is getting close that i will actually do some day fishing, hahaha. bo
  14. bass really do not go far unless the food supply disappears. some bass will migrate off the main lake and push shad up the creek arms, but will also migrate back out as the water cools. about bass staying and not traveling, way back when we used to have a weekly tournament out of big m, leonard and i used to run downstream and catch a limit of brownies and bring them back to big m. we did this over a period of a few years. until we did that, the brownies were non-existent around big m. now, they are caught on a fairly regular basis. i feel that most of the brownies that are caught in the cape fair area are the result of fish caught downstream, but weighed and released at cape fair. bo
  15. some dandy brownies!! that pocket you are in is where my wife caught her four lber. about a week ago. it came right out of the very back. that pocket has held some really nice bass over the years. like every where on table rock, that pocket does not have, even a 1/3 the timber it used to have. good job!!! glad your brother gave the jigs a try. bo
  16. you are exactly right about a need for the tournaments to be held on a rotational basis from one end of the lake to the other. areas of the lake that struggle have their few fish removed and weighed in in another area of the lake to never return. if the bigger tournaments were rotated to every area of the lake, then caught and released bass would be evenly spread out and not all in one area all the time. bo
  17. it can with some stocking programs which the texas fish and game have proved to work. the other element that needs to happen is to spread the bigger tournaments to cover the entire lake instead of taking out of the same place all the time. this displaces bass populations, and areas that struggle to begin with can get some bass released in the area instead of them all leaving. bo
  18. before the fish kill, there were loads of big largemouth on the lower end of the lake and dam area. i am starting to see a few show up, but not often yet. yes, especially now, bassers that are chasing lmg will be heading up the rivers because that is where the biggest population of lmg are. but, back before the kill, you did not have to run the rivers to catch them. back when we had them all over, i rarely ever frequented a river. plenty of lmg could be had fishing deeper in the clear water. the fish kill changed a lot of things though. bo
  19. quill i fished the dam area last night, and i did not figure them out there either. did not really see any fish to speak of on the electronics. fished a good variety and depths of water, but not too many bites. just had 3 keepers (one of each). i did get a good test out in a crappie jig that i will be getting into production. i fished it on 4lb. and loaded a finesse worm on it. fished it through lots of cedars and did not hang up. caught 5 bass on it, all short, but they were all hooked right in the roof of the mouth. guess i need to go exploring for some crappie with them now. bo
  20. well, the dynamite for sure!!!
  21. that really is a good sign that we had a good spawn this year.!! the fall bite is setting up as though we may have a good shallow bite and deep bite both! bo
  22. having at least a starting point always helps. the other thing that is great here is to see there are a lot of different ways to go catch them. bo
  23. great day! also, glad to see there is a very good crop of smaller bass coming along. bo
  24. linda pulled out the "arkansas rules" on me and claimed victory on the basis of catching the biggest one. bo
  25. took the wife fishing for a bit friday night, and she brought here cell phone. thought i would post up a few pics of some of what we caught. i was surprised a bit at the amount of boat traffic. the early bites were 30 feet deep, but those bass disappeared, and the remaining bites were from the bank out to 20 feet. caught most of them on a 1/2 Blitz football jig. bo
