  1. Phil and everyone involved did everything they could to keep the situation from getting any worse than it was. I also attended the event and my contribution to this topic is to ask for everyone's continued prayer for Father Gary who is now with God.

That would be something to see if "he" had babies. I had one eat a trout off my stringer on Taneycomo one time.
  3. They also use a cordless sawsall to cut the gunnel out and remove the bar. Takes seconds.
  4. I was schooled on gar by a farmer down in the Ozarks. We were fishing a slough on their land and caught some. Just tossed them up on the bank and they said put them in the cooler. They farmer's wife cleaned them and cooked them in fresh ground corn meal from their barn. It was really good and no bones in that tenderloin.

  6. Been loaded up with maters so I bought a sauce maker the other day. Made up about 30 lbs of maters into sauce yesterday. Not one seed or piece of skin in the sauce. Now I need to get the salsa screen for it. The machine worked great.
  7. Ditto.
  8. Phil, great catch on that fish. He is a nice one and will be there again for somebody to play with. Best sound on any of your videos.
  9. Good day in the garden. I even made 2 gallons of home brew.
  10. Ours usually turn red in September when they ripen. We pick them green in the meantime. Check some of the big box stores for pressure cookers. I know they make some fancy ones these days.
  11. Great report Phil. Can't wait until we get there for Healing Waters.
  12. Nice haul Billet. This is a pretty good year for gardens. So far our maters have not had any issues but the squash bugs are out big time. Have had to use sevin dust to keep them down or we will lost a huge squash crop.
  13. We are having a bumper crop of everything this year. Picked two baskets like this today of tomatoes and cucumbers. Been taking the surplus to the farmers market in our area once a week to sell it.
  14. The flathead and walleye lovers are all on and I like both along with crappie. But, I had an experience at an Ozark farm one time and have to add this fish to the list. We were fishing an oxbow of the Maries river and it was loaded with gar. I caught a good sized one and tossed it in the weeds. The farmers wife asked what I was doing and she said no way put it in the cooler. She cleaned that fish, breaded it in home made field corn meal and it was excellent and no bones. Haven't had it since but it's darn good.
  15. California stocks the lakes in the high Sierra by air. Some of those lakes are ice covered 9 months a year but will hold some very nice fish. When I lived out there you could hike to isolated lakes and catch some good ones in summer. Many of those lakes have inflow snow melt inlets and outlets so there is some spawning. When I lived out there the daily trout limit was 10 and I used to fish the upper American river way up in the mountains. On opening morning one year I found a high mountain access to the river that had quite a few people waiting to fish and when it was time no one could catch anything. I was using worms I dug in the garden and had a limit in less than an hour. When I left I gave the worms to some kids who immediately began catching fish. I guess this dumb his from Missouri showed those folks how to catch them and I had never trout fished before.
  16. "but grand daddy, all I catch are big fish!" Out of the mouths of babes. That says it all and is priceless. The good thing is if its true it ain't bragging. Great job Phil.
  17. I use a 7' cabelas trax with a quantum reel. Multi use rod that also works great with cleos, stick baits, kastmasters and even bait. Not expensive and fast hook set. Also good white bass rod
  18. Very nice Phil. You got him back in the water pretty quick.

Thanks Bird Watcher. Where did you get this page? I would like to look at other parts of the lake.

Where are the humps at KK?
  22. They are pulling a lot of water at Truman so the whites and hybrids are active.
  23. I gave up on LOZ a long time ago and TR is getting into that same class. My warm water choice of lake is Truman or Bull Shoals. They have not changed much over the years compared to TR. We had an 8 y.o. water ski down the main lake on the 4th of July near Theodosia and there was hardly another boat in sight. Too much commercial activity around TR to ever change the boater crowd.
  24. rps, that sounds great. We will try it.
