  1. The better question is: Is access to health care a basic human right? I say yes, it is. Hippocratic Oath etc. You don't leave the sick and dying on the battlefield. So yes, health care for all. That doesn't mean Obamacare is right. A massive failure of my generation. We took a bad problem and made it worse.
  2. Don't get me wrong, I like codes, just don't want to see a federally imposed one. I wouldn't want to see a state-imposed one either. Let the buyer beware. Let the local jurisdictions decide for themselves. Off-topic of course but a good example. Who would want federally-imposed codes? Bankers and insurers. They would then get to deflect to the local jurisdictions who would be burdened with inspections. Yeah they can charge a good permit fee but the price of building just went up, for everyone. All to basically satisfy the bankers, insurers and the big ol federal gov't. Oh wait...maybe it's not off-topic.
  3. I'm sorry to jump in here but think about what you're saying here. 1. A national (i. e. federal) building code? Really? Talk about government overreach. Wow. 2. Your idea would be to protect against substandard work via a national code. I don't like substandard work either. But you get what you pay for. You want quality work, hire a quality contractor. You want substandard work, hire a weekender with a sign on his truck. If you insert the federal government into this the nanny state just grows infinitely more bloated. You think a farmer in Osage County is going to follow IBC 2009 when putting up a pole barn? Who exactly is going to inspect for this? Just sayin.
  4. No, not to my knowledge. I'm stll waiting on siusaluki's pic of the truck fording the river. Maybe the Black River, upper area? My first guess however is the Current above Akers.
  5. I would say Al's #2 is possibly the North Fork, though the gravel doesn't look right. The bluff and bend look familiar but I don't really recall that tall stripped tree. Stumped....
  6. Al, one of them is the Jack's Fork at Blue Spring. Maybe I got the spring name wrong but right there at the spring entry correct?
  7. Current, but not there.
  8. Al, it was from this spring. Not overly high water, maybe a bit flush. siusaluki, Current above Akers?
  9. This one oughta be easy.
  10. Pretty good guesses, It's the Meramec above Highway 8 bridge, upstream a bit from where Woodson K. Woods CA hits the stream banks.
  11. Here's one. I feel this is a pretty distinctive spot.
  12. Ah Mizzou. I do credit all you fans for continuing to believe in a mirage. I've seen nothing in these first few games that makes me believe we'll do anything but get killed in the SEC.
  13. Myself and Hank Jr. was there for Wacha's gem last night. Carpenter's error and Wacha's two walks late gave the Nats one chance too many. The called third strike on Span was golden. I still had a bad feeling about Zimmermann though. Oh well, we got the win. Great game to watch. Yes, thank you Albert Pujols for the dumbest decision any player has ever made.
  14. Excellent report, thanks for posting. Your fish pictures are really nice.
  15. Great pics. We did this exact same float in early July and had similar experience. Fishing OK on the Jack's but no fish of any size. On the Current we had a hard time, partly because we had the kids with us so it was more boat control than fishing. I loved the wide open quality of the Current through there but the fishing was tough.
  16. And Johnny Football works basically for free. One of the biggest scams ever perpetuated.
  17. Were they on his property? Yes. Did they have a right to be there? Yes. Mmmmm, interesting. Therein lies the rub. Who was the aggressor? Sounds like Crocker to me. Floaters stop to pee like hundreds if not thousands before them. Crocker shoots near them. Uh-oh. Floaters don't leave. Crocker now is really pissed and goes down to confront them. Crocker still very much the aggressor. By his own words, I got the gun, I'm in control here. Floaters STILL don't leave. Now what? Crocker can shoot a few more times in the air and call the cops, or go down to sort things out himself. Lesson to the masses: Taking a gun into a crowd of drunks very likely will end badly. Crocker no doubt was risking getting himself killed when he walked into that mess. It's likely he did need to defend himself by the time it got that far. But he put himself in that position.
  18. The Castle law chapter here http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/chapters/chap563.htm Central provision here http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/c500-599/5630000031.htm Crocker has a very weak castle law defense. Protecting his property from what, peeing? Once the jaws started jacking however I can see how he might claim self defense. BUT, Crocker put himself in that position. He could have withdrawn. If the drunks still came after him after he withdrew, then of course he is justified. Instead it appears Crocker shot a couple times and the drunks didn't leave. Crocker then engaged them further. Wrong move. Crocker was looking for a fight and he got one.
  19. When I was about 13-14 years old my friend and I were fishing out of a beat-up johnboat on the Bourbeuse River. Slow languid stream on a slow summer day. Not much going on. All of the sudden a dog-like creature emerged from the water about 10 yards below us, climbed up on the bank and trotted off. My friend and I were dumbfounded, we hadn't heard any splashing or commotion of any kind to catch our attention. The animal somehow had swum underwater to that location and then surfaced. At the time we thought it was a dog, small to mid-sized, with a long tail, though over the years as I've thought about it seems it must have been either a fox or a coyote. It's possible it was a large raccoon but it had a slimmer profile. For years though my friend and I called it a "werewolf!"
  20. I became an OA elite the day I caught my first 20-inch stream smallmouth. Nothing else matters.
  21. Agreed, great thread. Missed it earlier. Good work to those who pushed on this.
  22. The latest... http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/suspect-in-meramec-river-shooting-case-says-he-was-defending/article_21f2e227-51c4-54de-b568-a30bd510a1c6.html Sounds like Crocker just went nuts. Why the floating party didn't just completely scatter out of there remains unanswered.
  23. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/the-party-doesn-t-end-for-floaters-after-shooting-on/article_8f31b580-885d-5333-ae42-849f07da13c7.html More grist for this mill. Reminds me of a song I wrote.... https://soundcloud.com/famous-p-jones/drunk-on-the-river?in=famous-p-jones/sets/more-songs-about-heaven-pain-1
  24. Interesting link, thanks. The attorney has started trying the case in the court of public opinion. That tells me he doesn't think he has a good case in the real court. Rocks as large as softballs? The Crawford County jail denying him medical treatment? This for the alleged "good guy" known in the community? Keep talkin, Mr. Attorney.
