Just thought I would let you folks know how bad the fires are out this way. If any of you are planning on heading this way to fish please stay home. For your healths sake. In my county there are two firs burning in Paradise Valley. There is one south of Big Timber Two in Yellowsotne park and the real big one over by Nye Montana. It is over 190,000 acres and has burned 29 homes and many out buildings and a lot of livestock. They are afraid it will join up with the fire south of Big Timber on the Boulder river and become a huge fire. Not that it already isn't. They have Hazard warnings out for breathing as the smoke is so think you can't see clear more than 200 yeards. They are also closing the Interstate now and then do to all the smoke. In the western US there are now 59 fires buring that have burned over 800.000 acres. No rain in sight either. I would just like to see a switch in the wind to get the smoke out of here. I think it is a shame that People can't get together and do some selective cutting and brushing of our forests. Everytime they try and do anything they get sued by the green groups. So all of the timber is wasted and work is lost for the local people and we all lose our forests. Seems a shame to me to waste what the good Lord gave us. But what do I know? Ron

The way I look at this is that it needs to be fixed and it dosen't matter much right now who pays for it. The law suits can follow but the river needs to be fixed right now. Later may be to late. It is an election year maybe people need to call or write there Congress men and woman or other government people. There are also some national River Org's that may help. I do not live there and believe it or not the Yellowstone River that I live on is on the 10 most indangered list do to all the building going on. Funny thing is that a lot of the people doing the building are against anything and everything that may have to do with logging, the wolves that are killing ranchers cattle, the buffalo that are over populated for the range thay are on, and anything else to do with the out of doors here, but god forbid you tell them what all the building they are doing on the river is doing to it. Or what the run off from there lawns and car washing and on and on is doing to the river. Kinda funny. Park County the county I live in didn't get any rules in place to protect things until it was almost to late. Looks like the same thing is going on there. I don't live close so I can only do so much but I have written the Governor's office and the local's Not much more I can do. I will do what I can. We all need to do that much. Ron

Phil Just wondering if you have ball caps for sale for the site or your business? Or T-shirts? I would like to have one and maybe help support the site. Ron

Without watching you I would say your timing is a little off. Try watching your back casts over your shoulder. That may help you out. Believe it or not a lot of people lose there timing at night as they do not see the line. It helps seeing the line even if you don't know you are seeing it Ron

My advise is to get the EPA into it. I bet they don't know about it. And I do know that it is public water way and they do have a say. They will fine the heck out of this guy and no town or county politics either. Might be worth a shot. Ron

I can't tell you what will work real well there but I can tell you that Brown Torut seem to like the colors of Yellow and Brown real well. At least just about everywere I have fished for them it seems to work well. Brown and Yellow in a streamer or Wolly Bugger is great. Or a Brown Leach pattern is good to. I tie some brown and yellow poppers that I use here and do well on. That is a fly that people do not use much for trout they think that poppers are just for Bass LOL. Not so. Ask the late Joe Brooks. He caught an #18 pound Brown Trout on one. They work. As do brown colored mice. Ron

Try looking here you should be able to find someone close. Ron http://www.echoflyfishing.com/dealers.php

Reading this thread makes me remember back when. When we didn't know what an indicator was LOL. We use to dye our butt section of mono red or yellow or someother bright color. The bass guys called it line watching and that is just what we did to. If that line jumped or moved in any different way than it should we would set the hook. There were some real good nymph fishermen back then but most people couldn't get the hang of it. With the indicator's we have today it is easy in comparison. Took a lot more skill to fish nymphs without the indicator's. I think a feller learned more doing it the old way to. But things change. I still don't use an indacitor very much at all. You just get use to doing it one way and stick with it. Ron

To heck with the boat insurance I will take the life insurance if I was going that fast thank you LOL Ron

One reason I always thought a 25 horse motor was big enough for all the fishing I will ever do LOL Ron

I guided Yellowstone Park for many years. Smaller flies still work well there but all I can say is Dumb Cuthroats LOL Even if people don't want to admit it they are dumb for the most part. When I Guided for Lilley's in West Yellowstone some years back if a guide was going to be fishing Yellowstone lake for cutthroats and you asked him were he was going he would just say Walla Walla fishing. We all knew he was going to the lake and catching Cutthroats. This is because all they do for a fight is Wallow on the surface. No run's or jump's at all. If it were not for the current in the streams I doubt many would even fish for them. But the clients seemed to like it. Just my opinion LOL Ron

No it should not sink to bad on you but with a full sink line you will have to keep track on the depth of water you are fishing and how long you let it sink. You can always put a weedguard on your streamers. Not to hard to do either. Just tie in some 6 to 8 pound Mono at the tail and wrap it with thread down the bend of the hook about half way. Let it hang and tie your fly. Now take the mono and run it through the eye of the hook ( make sure the loop that you are forming with the mono is below the hooks bend and point when you have it through the eye were you are going to tie it in) warp it with thread just behind the eye and to the bottom of the shank when you have caught it down there then fold the mono over and catch it on top of the hook and finish the head trim off the excess and you have a weedless streamer. ( -> ) The stright line is the hooks shank and the "V" on it's side is the way the mono should be folded and tied down with the point of the "V" being were the hooks eye is. This is for a person tying right handed if left handed reverse it. Harder to explain it than to do it. Ron

Snagged- The Dai-Riki #700 is a very good hook for tying your streamers on. I use them myself and I tie for a living. As for the Jig hook. It can be used for tying a fly on as long as it doesn't have the lead on it. It will not fish as well but will work in a pinch. The Dai-Riki #700 hook is Down eye, 1x strong, 4x long, Round Bend, Bronze Finish and comes in sizes #1 through #16 You can tie your streamer in two ways One with the yellow under the hooks eye with the Black on top of the hook's shank. Or you can tie it with both colors on top of the hooks shank. Tie the yellow on fist then the black on top. The hook will ride hook point down in both cases. About the only way to get the hooks to ride point up would be to put lead eyes on top of the shank just behind the eye of the hook. Here is a link just to show you what the hair or marabou sould look like when it is tied on top of the hook. http://www.danica.com/flytier/tdidas/gate_crasher.htm The lighter color should always be the bottom color on a streamer. That is in most cases. One thing to remember is that most new tiers use to much material in the wings of there flies. Don't use to much it will take away from the action of the wing . Also keep the wing just a bit longer than the hook. If you get it to long you may miss fish do to short strikes. Here is one other fly to look at so you can get an idea of what it may look like with the marabou or hair tied under the hook eye. This is a hair wing but Marabou can be used in the same way. http://www.danica.com/flytier/msmith/thund...ek_streamer.htm Hope that helps you out a bit. If my camera had not been lost in the flood we had I would tie one and show you how it should look with the black and Yellow wing. Good Tying Ron

I fished a lot down in Texas along the coast in a Yak. They use the set on top kind down there. I think they are great. You can jump off or on real quick. I think the set on top one's are more comfortable to. We do a lot of wadding down there on the flats for Red's and Trout. The one's we use also have a rudder and that helps real well in the tide and wind. My son set them up and they have rod racks, depth finders, Ice chest (Small One) seat with a back, The paddle is attached and an anchor. You can also get outriggers for them so you can stand up and fish from them. Heck there is even a webe site down there for people using them. Great fun and I was amazed at how far and fast you can travel in them. A good thing is you can dump them in just about anyplace. And they are not hard to haul around. I just wish I could do it more often. Ron

Looks like you had a great time. I know how good it is to get away and fish like that. Wish I was with you on that trip. Nice pictures to. Ron

Like I said before it all depends on were you are fishing. Here were I live it cost you $100.00 a day per rod during high season to fish any of three world famous spring creeks. That and you can't keep any fish. Which makes the fishing get tough after the fish have seen everything even the kitchen sink. You had best know your P's and Q's to catch fish there. Early in the season it is easier but this time of year you had best be a good fisherman. I have seen more than one fly fisherman that thought they knew a lot talking to themselves after 5 hours without a fish. It is the streams that have a lot of put and take that are the one's that I am not interested in. To easy I like it tough LOL. Makes me think harder. If I get skunked for the day then it was my falt for not figuring it out that day. The fish were sure there. Ron

16 or 6 bucks each??? 16 sounds a might high priced to me? Ron

I would suggest filing a complaint everytime it happens to you or anyone. If you do that they will get the idea that they may have to patrol it more often. That is the only way they will know what is going on. You souldn't have to do things like that but in todays world I am afraid it is part of being an outdoors person. Dang shame to. Ron

The best thing about being retired is you don't have to fish on weekends LOL. I fish during the week 90 percent of the time. I tie orders on the weekends. Who Shot the Wabbit, Who shot the Deputy. I shot the Wabbit and he's inside of me. Song by Elmer. Ron

I use a few different knot's just depends on what I am doing. I use a blood knot for tying leaders. I use a Surgeon's knot for tippet material and I use a clinch knot for tying smaller flies on. But for larger flies I like and use the Palomar knot as it is a 1 hundred percent knot and I trust it. Another great thing about the Palomar knot is the size of it. It is very small. I like that. I worked for a large Fly Fishing Company some years back. They have there own leader and tippet material and they also have a machine that will test all of that type of material and also knot strength. Seeing that sure open's your eye's on that stuff and the breaking strength's of a lot of different leader and tippet material's. Seems they all do not read true LOL. I also use a Duncan Loop now and then. I won't get into saltwater there are a lot more to use there. Ron

stone9-7=2- I have seen other types of adds on the threads but none of the bad one's hope those don't get on to often. I am sure they do all they can to see that the board is kept clean. Ron

jOrOb- The adds at the top of the page help pay for the site. It is the adds in the main messages that they are talking off. Ron

I not only wrote the local Government but also wrote the Governor's office letting them know what I thought. I asked why they would take a chance of this happening? Why they didn't make the rules and reg's on things like this tough seeing that it happened so quick after the building started. Why they would take just 2 1/2 inchs when they know that this area could get up to 7 or 8 inch's of rain very fast. That is the history of the area so why didn't they use it? Seems they would want to protect rivers and not let developers kill them. Told them it may change people minds from coming to Arkansas for vacation as this was already all over ther internet. I also told them that it may keep people from moving to the area if they kill all of there streams by having very poor building regulation's. Told them that it was all most as much the falt of the local government as it was the contractor's. Seeing as how they are the one's that set the rules and regulation's. Figure it can't hurt to pile it on. But it is all the truth. Ron

I was fishing with Client's a few years ago on the Missouri out of Wolf Creek Montana. We were just around the point of an island and had two of them come around the corner full out and almost hit both clients' You talk about a case of mad. I found out who they were and were they were staying and called the warden on them. He talked to them and warned them if it happened again they both might just go to jail. Both were drinking hard. I always tell people to call the warden if they are bothering you. They have no right what so ever to do that and they know it but just don't care. Some people run them with respect but many do not. I do not think those things are worth the powder to blow them stright to He!!. Seem's all they are good for is going fast and wasting gas. Ron
