  1. Zipstick, thanks for the info on the Spider Spin... My grandpa and he cronies used to use those here at Tablerock and over on Bull Shoals in the winter. I didn't remember that Bass Buster made one. I'd still catch alot of fish I'll bet.
  2. Denjac...we may have the only 2 Slim Jim's left in the world..lol... I still may have the name wrong...Does your bait have a fairly fat gut and gets thinner near the tail ? I know, I'm asking a question that is very unclear. The bait I'm talking about has a fat belly and then QUICKLY tapers to thin at the tail...OK, still unclear..lol ...no biggy...Ahhh the memories !!!
  3. Somebody mentioned Jim Rodgers. All though I didn't know Jim Rodgers, I have a good, old friend, Dan Langley, who used to develope some lures for (or with) Jim R.... WAY back in the...ah....probably mid 70's, Dan brought me some long, slender looking crankbaits. I THINK they were call slim Jim's, but I could be dreaming.......lol... It was the very first suspending jerkbaits I have ever seen. I believe they were working on them and they had not been released for fabrication. Had a floater also. I think I have one of those still in the package also. Dan was having fits trying to make it do exactly what he wanted it too. In any event, so many have added their talents to the world of fishing lures. Sometimes, the little guy doesn't get mentioned.. Hats off to Dan Langley. He and Bill Babler, Bill Beck, have been slinging lures on Tablerock for.....years. (My keyboard doesn't have numbers that high)...lol...I started in 1963 but I was only 13 yrs old then. The old lake has changed alot in some ways. And not so much in other ways.
  4. Harold loved that Reaper ! And his red, Country Squire Station Wagon. Gone fishing instead....of just... a-wishin'......The station wagon might have been a Country Sedan instead of Country Squire...Both were Ford's....Memory cells are off for Christmas. I have an observation on the Virgil Ward question. His Bass Buster line of baits insluded 2 good sized spinnerbaits. One was called the Tarantula and the one with a slightly smaller blade was the Scorpion. Virgil used to fish Tablerock Dam (area)in the winter with a big, white Tarantula with an Uncle Josh Pork Rind (probably white) hanging on the hook. He used to park his fancy rig (fancy for then) at the Kimberling Inn near the motel entrance. I personally never heard of a spider spin ? I have a Tarantula, still in the package I should try and scan or photograph for you young guys.... I also just realized there is a page 2 to this thread, so my post may sound coo-coo..lol
  5. Billfo....The grass is always greener.... lol......I like Big Indian. Mostly, I like to see different scenery. So I try and change around as much as time allows. The guides may see several parts of the lake everyday. I just don't have that much time, so I head to Little Cow or maybe Spring Branch. There are no fish in this part of the lake anyway. Seriously, you asked about "what fish are caught" .....It's pretty much like any of the other large creek arms in the lower lake. Lots of bass.
  6. Hey Billfo, where's your dock ?? Are you over in One of the Indian Creeks over by Baxter ?? I live in Moo Slough. (Cow Creek)...
  7. You can run as fast as you want as long as you are between the buoys. (I'm talking Aunts Creek because it's got docks with buoys on both sides)......Any similar areas would be the same. As long as don't leave a big wake INSIDE the no wake buoy, you are not breaking any law or regulations. You don't have to stay "a certain distance" from the no wake buoys. Just don't go between the buoy and the dock it's for..I deal with both sides of this issue. The main thing / complaint is that it's usually not the 30 footers that cause the damage and problems. It's the 40, 50, & 60 footers that really wreck the docks. Bass boats are way down the list and sea doo's, as irritating as they may be, don't hurt docks, unless, of course, they crash into it......lol.....Wind really is a whole different deal. The dock roofs and structure are like a big sail...It's not so much the waves as it is the lateral pressure put on the dock cables that do the most wind damage.....How much pressure can a 5/8 dia cable take when it's been under water for three, four, five years or more ?? Nobody knows....Wish I did. Might make some money.....lol
  8. I was out for just a couple of hours yesterday in the Cow Creek area. The Lowrances both read 50.7 to about 51.1.... The temp varied very little in the short time I was out. I didn't do very good. Spent too much time watching the graph... lol....
  9. Hey thanks for the invite NXS....As it looks right now, I will not be able to get away, but Mike might...Please give us a report after your trip. Good to hear from you too !
  10. Nice going Mike & Bill !! Ham, I'm like you. Take off the 25 dollar baits when these bruisers are around. lol.
  11. Natures's Images (at Bass Pro) did a walleye mount replica for me, and it is ...very, very nice... Can't tell you prices.......A 30 inch walleye was about $239.00 plus this and that......
  12. Well now that you asked.......I personally, like the Trojans better then anything I've used in years....I had a Trojan cranking battery finally go south this year. It came in the boat in 2003... It cranked the big motor, it cranked the 9.9 kicker motor, ran 2 large Lowrance color depthfinders, both wirh GPS, and the lights and bilge pump.. It went 7 seasons. It wasn't a huge battery either. It didn't even fill up the battery tray that came attached to the floor of the battery area. I do hesitate to back anybodies product nowdays... If the Pro_guides are made locally, might be the ticket ...?
  13. Bill is oh so right.....lol.. I just got back from Kimberling an hour or so ago, and they're lined up at Rapid Roberts filling boats and trucks. Looked like some pretty good spillover into Jerry's "Ozarks Bait & Tackle", although I didn't go in. Going to be on the nippy side tomorrow morning. Good luck all you tourney guys !
  14. Mike, what is your favorite susp. stickbait ??
  15. pistol is sold !
  16. Length of rod depends on how you want to "set-up" for the day. We use leadcore specific rods that are 5 feet long when we run 2 leadcore rods, one off of each back corner of the boat. Holding that thought, we put another rod on each side with superline and either use planer boards to spread the lures or just use really long rods without planer boards. The idea is to get, say, 4 trolling rigs out with the lures spread out enough not to tangle, and to cover more water. Terry, I'd love to see one of these rods. Rangerman asked a great question. What length are the rods you have ?
  17. where is buzzard cove ?? Upper lake ?? Lower Lake ?? Mid lake ??
  18. As far as I know, leadcore line trolling is used around here (ozarks) mainly for catching walleyes, but believe me, you can catch all kinds of nice fish trolling leadcore line. It is mainly used to get a lure, specifically a small lure, (crankbait) way down beyond what it would run with regular line. Leadcore trolling is very speed dependent. The slower you go, the deeper the line will sink. In some ways, it IS like fly fishing in that you are working with the weight of the line, instead of the weight of the lure. I can put a #5 Shad Rap down 30, 35, 40 feet on leadcore line. It's all in the "length of line out VS> the speed of the boat. In very basic terms, you can expect a lure to go down about 5 feet per color (one color is 10 yds or 30 feet), at 2 mph.....So, if you wanted your #5 Shad Rap to run at 25 feet deep, you should let out 5 colors (150 feet) and go 2 mph......That will get you in the ballpark. We normally troll the really big deep divers, like the big Reef Runners on superline and run some smaller lures on the inside on laedcore. It can be a deadly tactic at times. We normally put a whole 100 yard spool of leadcore on the reel, so you need a BIG reel, since leadcore is fat line. A Daiwa Sealine 47 LC is about right. I've just touched the surface here......lol. Try looking at the archives on the Mid-South Walleyes website for more info......(Hope that's OK Phil).....The leadcore rods are really nothing fancy. Need some backbone down by the handle and some give starting about mid-rod. Some of my walleyes fishing buddies use leadcore specific rods and some just use cheapo's....I have some of both, and they all work. Hope this isn't too confusing.
  19. Thanks for the bump !
  20. You got that right Mike ! lol Had some nibbles....No actual commitment yet.
  21. Would like to sell a Colt Anaconda .44 magnum I bought new in Dec 1993. I have the case and owners manual. Will throw in 2 speed loaders. It is in excellent shape. Has had maybe 100 rds fired total. I have to get $1050.00 for it which is right in the ballpark for these at this time, as they are no longer made. I'll try and post a photo if I can find one I've reduced enough. 417-779-2008 or 417-213-0037
  22. YEP !
  23. How big is the lot ?
  24. Send down the camera !! lol..... My guess ? They are whites, but 2nd choice would be Kentuck's.... Very nice images !
  25. Hi Ham......Just wait until the number of boats fishing gets anywhere near the amount Tablerock has, and guys like that will either have to behave, or they will go bonkers trying to "get" anybody on the same side of the lake as they are....lol Thanks for the report Mr. B.......
