  1. I might have regretted not going Sunday, but man the wind was absolutely brutal. I have never been on a creek with that much wind and I hope I never am again. Other than that I really enjoyed it.
  2. Sounds like a great day. I really enjoy the dry fly fishing down there.
  3. I haven't decided yet. I'd like to get down early enough to do some fishing, but I won't know until Friday evening. Otherwise I'll try to be there by about 11:30 am.
  4. Cool picture. Thanks
  5. There are many miles of roads that boarder Shoal Creek and many accesses along those roads. Most of which have an area that can easily be waded. Sometimes you can fish from the bank, but just remember if you can fish easily from a spot so can everyone else. It's best to walk upstream or downstream from those areas to find places that don't get camped out on. You will usually find a place where the fish are more easily tricked into biting whatever you decide to throw to them. Like Bird Watcher said, you can expect to catch just about anything in this creek.
  6. +1
  7. Welcome to the forum and thanks for the tip and report.
  8. Sorry to hear that CDC. I was hoping you would make it.
  9. Yeah bring your waders. We can always use people in the creek picking up trash. I'll be there with the canoe in tow.
  10. Great report. Thanks
  11. Jason Boothe will be joining us on the float.
  12. I don't know, but that sounds an awful like lawyer jargon to me. Thanks. That does put a few things into perspective.
  13. It's definitely addictive. Thanks for the report.
  14. Very cool. Thanks.
  15. Maybe it's because I only own Fords.
  16. No. I already thought of that. It is made of craft foam superglued over the hook. It will be attached just like a hopper/dropper with the dropper tied to the bend of the indicator hook.
  17. Is it me or is the link faulty?
  18. So Chief has told you about all of my awards??????
  19. Funny you should say that. I have been using those foam stick on indicators for years and have had some absolute pigs come up and suck them in. So last weekend I was thinking....Why not make an indicator fly? Yep, a foam indicator with a #14 dry fly hook inside. I haven't used them yet, but since I seldom ever have any luck with a big dry and dropper I think I'll give it a try, at Roaring River at least.
  20. Shoal Creek is definitely a warm water creek. Largemouth, smallmouth, kentuckies,goggle-eye, perch, and crappie are the fish that you should expect to have a good chance at catching. Standard bass and pan fish setups will work. I usually fish with two baitcasters for throwing the heavy metal and a spinning rod for soft plastics. There's no need to go very light though, the creek has good color and there are plenty of opportunities to catch some nice sized fish. People usually don't believe me when I tell them I fish with 17 lb. line on my baitcasters in Shoal Creek. It's not because of the record sized fish, but because I can get away with it and it helps when I go squirrel hunting. I have several "Acorn Awards" on my wall.
  21. I'm in for the 17th for sure. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.
  22. I don't own a GPS, but thanks for the coordinates. In the meantime I'll just have to fish until I'm tired or until I see a NO TRESPASS sign.
  23. Great fish.. How about a few details to go with the photo?????????
  24. Hot summer days have been very good to me at Roaring River using a variety of dries. Griffiths Gnat, Renegades, BWO's, Humpy's, Caddis, Beetles and Hoppers. I might catch more fish on nymphs and emergers thoughout the year, but dries and summer seem to go together for me.
