Shoal Creek is definitely a warm water creek. Largemouth, smallmouth, kentuckies,goggle-eye, perch, and crappie are the fish that you should expect to have a good chance at catching. Standard bass and pan fish setups will work. I usually fish with two baitcasters for throwing the heavy metal and a spinning rod for soft plastics. There's no need to go very light though, the creek has good color and there are plenty of opportunities to catch some nice sized fish. People usually don't believe me when I tell them I fish with 17 lb. line on my baitcasters in Shoal Creek. It's not because of the record sized fish, but because I can get away with it and it helps when I go squirrel hunting. I have several "Acorn Awards" on my wall.
