  1. Thanks Ollie. Always thinking of your buddies.
  2. Great info Phil. Thanks
  3. I'm going to have to wait until Saturday this year. Still looking forward to it.
  4. Great video Chance. My favorite section of the creek too.

    Hickory

I was there last on Oct. 25th. It was tough, but there were still a few fish. They were very spooky though. The week before was much better. Egg patterns were working both times along with a few scuds.

    Very nice fish!!! Congrats.
  9. Sorry I just saw this. I prefer chest waders too, but like Ollie said, hippers would work for most of the creek, but there are a few places that you would need something a little higher. I've never tried a mouse fly, but under the right conditions and at the right spot it might work. I'm looking forward to the first stocking of Capps. It's been a while.
  10. Like Ollie said.... Capps is not your average put and take stream. First: You have to beat the locals to the creek. Second: You have to be willing to suffer the worst weather the seasons have to offer in order to really catch fish. Third: You have to be willing to go far beyond the accesses , both up and down. Other than that Capps is a great creek, but it is more than a little challenging unless you catch the stocking just right.
  11. I saw this today and thought it would be a great idea for a back up on winter floats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2NV8_f3Csc
  12. Yep, I got that ugly thing mounted, on my wall that is.. Lol.
  13. There are a bunch of goldfish in that creek. I've never caught one, but I keep trying. Lol. I've found a few other places that support holdover trout up and down. A few years back when some guys were talking smack about Hickory I made it my goal to catch at least 1 trout in each month of the year just to prove them wrong and I succeeded. It's a unique creek. I'm looking forward to November. : )
  14. Nice fish and great post. The pic with the blind looks familiar ; ) I always catch a few from that spot and sometimes a good fish or 2. I'm glad you got your redemption.
  15. Great SBS. Good looking craw fly. Thanks
  16. I'm with Wayne on this one. Clawdads are super easy to tie and they can be made in a variety of sizes, colors, and weights. They have been my go to fly this year. I use a couple of materials for the claws, but the best I've found is thin leather cut from work gloves. I use a permanent marker to color them. 2 strands of spinnerbait skirt for the antennae, your choice chenille color, I prefer variegated olive, and 3 strands of skirt material on each side for the legs placed right behind the dumbbell eyes. You will lose these flies if you are fishing in the right places. You better have a few on hand.
  17. Take it back to BP. 9 out of 10 times they will replace it with a like or newer model.
  18. Sounds like you are ready to go. We'll have to do some fishing some time. Ollie and I fish Capps and Hickory through out the winter months too.
  19. I was able to get out yesterday morning before the storm rolled through,I started about 10:30. I tied up a couple of olive Clawdads, yesterday morning, in a slightly smaller lighter size than I have in the past. The smallmouth were on it almost immediately. I caught about 20 fish with all but 3 being smallmouth, one 11" largemouth and 2 decent goggle eye. Slow strips or dead drifting was the key. A couple were at least 13" and I jumped off a couple more nice fish. They really turned on just before the rain started. Off the creek by 2:00 PM.
  20. My favorite videos have little to no talking. I'm only there to watch the hook ups. Another annoying thing is watching a video that shows more casting than catching.
  21. I'll look for you. ** PM for location** access has some of the best water I've found. Mainly because there are no really deep holes that restrict you. You can always get through by wading on one side of the creek or the other. There are a couple of other spots that ought to be pretty accessible with the low water. I'll have to do some checking. Cherry Corner to Allen bridge is a pretty good float, but it can be hit and miss, at least in my experience. There are a bunch of goggle eye around the old mill, or what ever it was. Overall not too bad. I prefer to float sections below Lime Kiln.
  22. Sounds like fun. I was there Saturday. I got there a little late and the floaters started coming through pretty fast. I caught a couple LM on a Buzzbait, but the best fish came on the spinnerbait. I lost a really nice LM off a grass line that just about made me sick. Lol. I brought the fly rod, but opted for the baitcaster. I'm thinking of finding a good spot to fly fish tomorrow. Any ideas?
  23. The last time Chief and I floated to Wagon wheel we had a similar experience to jtram. I haven't been back since, but I think Chief has floated that section since.
  24. That's hilarious and very likely too. Lol
  25. Yeah, I thought the rod dropping in the lake was interesting. But it might help with the cool factor.
