  1. Nice fish. Who's that wooly looking guy in the second picture?
  2. Good luck tomorrow jgentile. Let us know how you do.
  3. Thanks et84. I'm thinking about maybe doing it. I've never done anything like this before.
  4. Good report Dirtworm. Since I've never fished Blue Springs I can't speak specifically to that particular creek, I have fished a few wild trout creeks over here in the S.W. corner of the state. 1st) I probably wouldn't have started with dry flies. Don't get me wrong, they can be killer on wild fish, but in my experience a midge or a scud is a more effective fly at this time of year. 2nd) (And I don't know your fly fishing skills) A roll cast in tight areas is the more effective cast. You don't have to worry about what is behind you, but only what is in front of you. 3rd) Don't pass up the small to shallow riffles. Sometimes that is where the fish are, especially on a bend in the creek. They may be the small stupid ones, but it might be the difference between getting skunked or not. Besides, the little ones are really pretty. 4th) You have a good attitude about fishing for these wild fish. Don't get discouraged. I got skunked the first time I fished Crane Creek, but I learned a lot and caught my biggest trout out of there the next time I fished it. A nice 17 incher. I haven't been able to top that fish since, but I haven't been skunked since either.
  5. I bet that put a smile on your face!!! I for one love all dogs and as long as they aren't tearing up anything or aren't terrorizing my dogs I don't have a problem with the neighbor dogs visiting. How can a little weiner dog hurt your bees? Are you afraid it might need a little attention? It's well known that thier bark is much worse than thier bite. BTW, I'd take a worthless little pound dog over just about any other store bought breed. Have a nice day.
  6. Hey Zack, Is this boat or no boat Fishing?
  7. You know I will.
  8. I plan on being there Ollie unless something unforseen pops up. I hope the weather is as nice as it is today.
  9. Great report. Good for you and Mic. There's nothing better than the satisfaction of tying a new fly that catches quality fish.
  10. Yeah, I'd like to see it too. It sounds pretty good.
  11. Wareagle 3/8 oz. rocks on the creeks I fish. Come on Jack, we've covered this before. http://www.wareaglelures.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=144 This spinnerbait will flat out catch catch bass. You will need a baitcaster though. LOL... I've tried other color and blade combos, but this has got to be my favorite.
  12. Good luck Craig. It looks like it might be riaining, but you never know. I hope it works out for you this time.
  13. You may not need a baitcasting rig, but they have uses that a spinning set up can't touch. They can be used for nearly all of the same lures that you might use on a sppinning rod, minus the super small cranks. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwater, jigs, everything.I Guess what I'm saying is that they can be just as versitile as a spinning rod. If nothing else it fits in nicely with an all around arsenal. Like Gavin said, fly rod, bait caster and spinning rod. I like to have an assortment even when I'm wading or cruising the banks. I always prefer to throw metal with my baitcaster and small to medium plastics with the spinning rod.Oh yeah, flukes on a spinning rod are a blast. You can get a nice starter setup with a Pinnacle reel and a Lightning rod. Pinnacles are easy to set up and the Lightning rod is super sensitive. Both for under or close to a hundred bucks. Then you only need to decide on which line you want to put on it. That's been beat to death so you are on you own there. Go ahead and take the plunge Jack, you will not regret it.

    Big News!

Way to go Leonard. I'm glad you were able to kick it. I quit almost 19 years ago after smoking for about 15 years. I felt better soon after and I don't miss smoking a bit.Welcome to the club.
  15. That was the biggest I've caught from Capps. Not mount worthy though. LOL
  16. Nice job Mic. I bet that has a lot of action. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Welcome FishdDR. I'm looking forward to your posts.
  18. That's a good looking bait. This may sound like a stipid question, but, Do you do most of your sanding before you put it on the hook or after?
  19. Sounds like agood time Ollie.
  20. My thoughts exactly..
  21.   The idea of slipping Marabou into the side of the fly is interesting. I bought a razor saw that might work, it would be a lot safer than using a razor blade. I'll keep that in mind for my next one and try work it into a fly. I have an old wooden frog bait that has a metal lip and the legs are deer hair. That's probably next on my to do list minus the metal lip. The second one you mention sounds good too. Post a couple of pictures of the foam flies you've finished I'd enjoy seeing them. I did'nt primer either of them but I did double coat them and when they dried I coated the frog popper with Sally Hansens hard as nails and the minnow bait I coated it with SH glitter polish. I'm still in the learning phase but I enjoyed making them both. Does anyone use any wood other than Balsa? I've read about using basswood and I might look into it. I really want something I can make bigger flies with. Most of the balsa I've found is, at its biggest, 1/2"x 1/2".

Good looking fly. Simple but effective.
  23. Yeah JD I can see that happening. I wish I hadn't forgotten the weed guards, although that wouldn't help much if it's wrapped around a limb 20 ft. over my head.
  24. Thanks Duane. It's been a pretty good one. Man, I have a heck of a time posting pictures on here anymore.
