  2. National Park Service traces sewage leak to Buffalo River From National Park Service • December 5, 2009 *From the Baxter Bulletin * Early in August, Buffalo National River officials received notification from Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) regarding high bacteria readings in Mill Creek, downstream from the Highway 7 bridge in Newton County. These findings were independently confirmed by BNR. ADEQ determined that a faulty lift station, part of the sewer treatment plant at Marble Falls, was leaking raw sewage into upper Mill Creek. Sewage from the lift station continues to run over ground into the uppermost portions of Mill Creek, entering a sinkhole in the streambed just below the lift station and directly entering the groundwater system. Buffalo National River Superintendent Kevin Cheri stated, "The National Park Service views this as a serious situation, both in terms of human health and safety, and the health of the river ecosystem. We will continue to monitor Mill Creek and the Buffalo River, and to advise the public on the risk of recreating in Mill Creek and within Buffalo River while the leaking lift station is in disrepair." Buffalo National River is concerned foremost about public health and safety and began a process to determine if the sewage entering the sinkhole was contributing to the high bacteria counts in lower Mill Creek, and if the bacteria concentrations in Mill Creek and Buffalo River were high enough to be a health concern to the public recreating on the river. In mid-October, Buffalo National River obtained the services of a hydro-geologist to dye-trace the sewage from the leaking lift station. Results showed that the dye flowed directly from the faulty lift station down Mill Creek to the Buffalo River in just over one day, demonstrating that raw sewage from the lift station was entering the Buffalo River. Results from the bacteria monitoring throughout Mill Creek and associated tributaries, found that Mill Creek was significantly higher in bacteria than normal.
  3. While I use polylink and Royalex canoes I am interested in Gluvit for my paddle jons. How heavy, application any info appreciated. g
  4. I sold my aluminum and bought a Disco 16'9" threw in the roll of duct tape and extra rivets cause I knew he poor guy would need them. g
  5. The Guide 147 weighs nearly as much as a Disco 169, I assure you the Disco 169 will float higher and better. That said, I have a Old Pack angler I use on solo day trips and a disco 158 I use on overnighters. I weigh about 250. If I were going to be one canoe it would be the camper 15 or 16 lighter 57 vs 80 and seats that you can sit in front and paddle backwards. Spend the $ and get a good one up front. g
  6. A bad day fishing is better than a good day working.....unless you are a guide.
  7. I have a 91 Jeep wrangler, pulls anything that dont make the oversize tires rub, gets decent gas mileage. I had John's 4x4 in Billings Mo put a 4.3 v6 in it.... I sure miss the poor mileage, low power and oil drops in the drive way that slant 6 had....... get one put a 4.3 in it and you can do what you like, but not much storage. g
  8. WWW.Rimshoals.com Great area to fish, Gary and Paula are great hosts.

  11. Sorry, Congradulations, Beautiful Fish, shame you did not have a camera and get a replica made, or keep it alive to put in Bass Pro Fish Tank and get a replica made. but a Trophy to anyone, and I do not have all the story and facts so should keep quiet until I do.
  12. Such a waste of a beautiful fish
  13. I am with Luke depends on what I am trying to do (note would like to say depends on what I am doing) g
  14. Honestly I have never paddled a Buffalo, many folks like them as they are heavy built, but they weigh more than the Old Town Royalex(72# vs 57#). I have a Discovery 169, Discovery 158 and a Pack Angler solo. I have been thinking of selling one of my discovery to buy a Old Town Camper Royalex but having a hard time thinking 25 lbs lighter is worth $1000 more The only thing I do not like about the discovery is the roto molded seats, can not sit in front seat backwards to solo and the weight. But I have a solo so why would I need two?
  15. They currently have blems for 744 http://www.buffalocanoes.com/clearance_specials.htm g
  16. campground is small and usually pretty full. A hang out for many locals, good swimming hole, fishing good above and below. I would put in the canoe at the Hastey Access and float down just to get away from the crowds unless you want to "meet" people short float, short comute. g
  17. If I am REAL hungry and have the $$$ I love all you can eat lobster, crablegs, crawfish and shrimp for around $30 at Whipper Snappers, but about 8 lobsters a dozen crawfish and a couple clusters of crab legs is all I can do no matter how hungry I am. They have them on the buffet not this order and wait stuff. They ask that you only take 1 lobster at a time. Below is the address. g 236 Shepherd of the Hills Expy, Branson - (417) 334-3282
  18. You are exactly right, if I had not got the angler edition for less than I could buy a straight Pack I would not have got it. Thanks for the heads up on the padding I am ordering one today. As I get older that is the only place on my body I can lose weight. The weather is great, got off work think I am gone to the creek. g
  19. Lets post the good too: http://www.ask4direct.com/InfoRead.asp?id=...p;InfoID=548883 g
  20. for info the "low water bridge" at Hastey is no longer a low water bridge, I thought I was on the Missisippi..... man what a bridge....
  21. Well sir, I took it on a 7 mile trip Tuesday. I should have spent some time in it getting it set up before I took the float. The first bend and root wad I way over steered, and can attest to your statement that it is actually hard to tip over. Not a very forgiving boat if you over steer. My legs got tangled in that "removeable work deck" so it was removed as soon as I hit flat water. After the first two miles I was talking to myself, I said "self why on earth did you buy this thing rather than the 15 ft. Camper and sit in the front seat and run it backwards?" Self said "you were wanting a solo canoe or kayak so get used to it." Once I started treating it more like a kayak we got along very well. Using my hips to twist it and not over paddling and steering. I did not think I would like the seat, but found it fine, sits a bit low but allows you to work the boat in faster water by leaning and twisting. As stated in other post the seat may need moved forward a bit, takes a pretty big cooler to flatten it out, for my 240 lbs. I found it comfortable to fish out of, did both spin and fly. I did not attempt to stand up, I prefer to stop and wade if I want to stand. Have not messed with the anchor or rod holder, looks like stuff I will not use. I happened to get a decent price on the angler addition but if was buying straight away would buy the pack, lower the seat and use a sitbacker. The plastic seat may get hard on long days, and not much of a way to add padding to the formed seat. The removeable work deck is now a removeable rear deck handy to keep some stuff in. I tried both type paddles, fishing the regular paddle was good, rest of the time the kayak paddle was great, but recommend at least a 230 or 240 the 220 was a bit short. If it had not blew up this storm this morning I would have it out again, may go out and move the seat forward a bit. Looks like nice weather this weekend. Think the pack and I will be friends for a long time once we get used to each other. g
  22. Call Bill at: 417-538-4848 http://www.ozarkcanoe.com/ He has moved the paddle shop to a building in Gainsville to liquidate his inventory, much cheaper than bass pro and the Bryant and North Fork are close by for a test run. for example old town camper 15 for $900 (1400 list) has many old town and ocean kayaks plus canones, I bought the last pack angler. g
  23. First try copy paste: http://vimeo.com/4860397 Basically it is a presentation on the start and history of the Current and Jacks Fork. It points some blame to the National Park Service for not protecting the resourse better, pointing out how they do a better job on the Buffalo and the Forest Service does a better job on the 11point. But we have to remember that the Current and Jack's Fork were the FIRST National Senic Rivers, by the time the Buffalo came in 8 years later in 1972 the NPS had learned some of their mistakes on the Current so it was a better bill through congress. The 11pt. also benefited by looking at the original model. That said it would take an act of Congress to correct many of the problems, which will not happen as some of the problems are money making ventures who give strong support to Congresswoman Emerson, and in her defense many of the locals are against any regs. They are currently looking for input for the next 15-20 years. Go to: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/document.cfm?p...ocumentID=27597 read the 3 proposals, select the one you like best, then comment on what you would like different about it. Click on the open for comment tab. The NPS is reading EVERY comment. Take the time to protect the resourse. g
  24. Do not know what price you are looking at but these are some of the last American made blanks from Flippin, AR. Larry Wegmann President of the MTFA in Springfield built a rod with these, and it was none less than awsome, I plan on building another this winter. g http://www.dorber.com/product.html
  25. After you watch the video take the time to go to: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/document.cfm?p...ocumentID=27597 (not sure how you do those link things sorry have to copy and paste) And read the proposals and make comments, you can suggest changes to each proposal we need to protect our streams. g
