  1. Keep in mind, there is a pretty good chance he will be drinking what is inside of the can first.
  2. I don't often drink (any more lol) but this tempts me to bring home a 6 pack. Let's see, in the interest of achieving perfection, I will no doubt require several 6 packs to reach my objective. Wrench, what are you doing to me? Seriously, I like it. Bet the white bass do to.
  3. I don't think anyone should panic over this-but I also think it bears watching. This has not only been documented on other web sites, but has also been the topic of a white house leak-could get interesting. BRB I'd be really careful about buyin that GM if I was you. They may activate the on star system without your knowledge and track your butt right up there to the arctic and take your fishin pole. In the mean time, I went fishin today, not much going on but I got rid of the shack nasties, caught me 2 keeper crappie (didn;t keep them tho) and a 10 inch largemouth. Good times
  4. With each addition to this thread I just get sadder and sadder. Sure am gonna miss that place. But hey, the bass are beckoning (and they hit flies).
  5. My trips to Bennett Springs will be fewer in the future because of this surveillance. I have no desire to be a movie star. Just seems like we are going in the wrong direction in my opinion.
  6. Of course, ya don't think I would urinate in the woods do ya?
  7. Another great use of tax dollars spent so that our illustrious leaders can watch me pea in the woods. Good job!
  8. Why does ANY gov't entity think it is a good idea to raise fees during an economic crisis? This philosophy baffles the crap out of me and it seems to permeate every level of gov't. I took the poll and let them know what I think. A $1 hike to fish Bennett wouldn't really bother me if the money was staying in Bennet-but essentially writing them a blank check to spend the money wherever they want to is bad news. Hunker down like the rest of us
  9. I'd rather stay home and wash dishes.
  10. I scored: Steak, shrimp scampi, rice and asparagus! The wife just got a dozen roses. I believe we both think we came out ahead-so that makes it a sweetheart of a deal.
  11. This thread brought to mind an incident in my childhood where I was fishing a neighbors pond when I heard my mom call me to supper. My mom was not one to be trifled with when she says come home-she means it. So I am cranking my little pfluegar 1494 as fast as I can and that little panfish popper is flat skittering across the surface when it got inhaled by a 10 inch bass. I can recall a few other times when I was reeling in to go home and nailed a bass as well. Sometimes ya just gotta put the hammer down.
  12. I actually use both methods quite often. Especially when using a large bass bug. A methodical and regular strip-strip-strip seems to work quite well. I follow it up with slower strips and pauses in between strips (in late spring the faster strip seems to produce better-but often when one doesn't, the other one will). But by any stretch of the imagination, it ain't runnin an gunnin and I do not like to fish that way.
  13. Nice ties-well done
  14. Two years ago I bought a pair of Cabelas breathable stocking foot waders. So far so good. I love the added mobility and the wading boots certainly adds ankle support (especially for that big round rock in zone 2 that has my name on it). I'd rather get wet than pay simms prices tho.
  15. So I guess we can officially start calling that hole below the dam the corn hole, no?
  16. Holy crap! Guess I should have mentioned that huh? I made them from wood. Very cool looking I must say. I think I am going to give spar varnish a shot and see how that works. I will post results in this thread when I am finished.
  17. Yeah, I've already had 1 catastrophe with a loctite product that says right on the label that it dries white. For reasons unknown to me, I interpreted that as dries clear. It still colored up real nice tho.
  18. I just tied some pencil poppers (yeah I know the ice has to melt before I can use them) and was very happy with the way my prototype turned out. I used the Devcon 7 minute epoxy for the sealant and it worked really well but can get a little messy. What do you folks use? Would a clear varnish work?
  19. I too have never caught a muskie on a fly but I plan on trying. I think for starters, I will just use my 8 weight-but if I get serious and decide to do it more than just occasionally, I will break down and get a new 10 weight. Cole-I also have a kayak but am very inexperienced with it. After I get more time on the water I may be interested in joining forces with you if you are interested. Dale
  20. Nice post SIU, enjoyed it immensely. Hope your 2010 is even better. As for me, not as many plans as last year. Will still take my fall trip to the erie tribs for steelhead. I have vowed to fish locally more often, way too many local bass and bluegills are ignored because they are too close-I will rectify that this year. The plan is to get out at least one day a week (2 is better) until September. Then I retire, and I plan on fishing myself into a coma!
  21. Well, I was downstairs developing some new poppers when I heard it. The UPS guy was out front with the results of my christmas shopping! Aside from a new Lamson Konic 2 reel, I got some prismatic stick on eyes, lots of poly yarn, some hooks, strung hackle and some 6 wt fly line. This is gonna be big
  22. I am partial to the waters of my youth. Lake erie tribs fishing for steelhead. I go back every fall and will continue to go back until I am just to dam old (not too far in the distant future). I would like to go back to Canada on a fly fish only Musky/pike/smallmouth trip. We'll see. So much water, so little time.
  23. I have read that several states have reported that hunting/fishing license sales have been on a downward trend for several years. About 4 or 5 years ago, I decided that hunting was not that much fun for me and did not justify the $ I spent for licenses-so I simply stopped hunting (I now fish during hunting season). I guess my point is-is there a point where people would stop buying licenses because of the cost? Could the MDC raise fees and actually lose money on the deal? Not really sure-but with the economy like it is, I think prudence is called for. To me, it doesn't matter if the actual cost of licenses are too high or not-if enough people THINK the cost is too high (and quit hunting or fishing as a result) than it is a BIG DEAL
  24. Troutfiend, you are correct in saying that $12.00 for a fishing license is not a lot of money. However, when you look at the fact that the same folks that enforce the fishing regulations also enforce the hunting laws, then the picture changes. $10 for small game, $19 for archery, $17 deer $17 spring turkey $13 fall turkey add em all up and the $ the state rakes in is indeed quite high. The issue is what percentage of the overall take is the state willing to spend on enforcement? My take on this is that an increase in any and all license fees would result in that same small percentage being allocated. I do not believe for one second, that a $5 increase in licensing fees would result in a $5 increase per tag in enforcement fees. Period.
  25. Fishing is relaxing to me, therefore my "goal" is to relax more often this year than I have in the past.
