I am meeting the in-laws tomorrow for a couple of days of striper and walleye fishing on the Norfolk and figured once they go home Sunday that I would break out the fly rod and head down to the tailwaters. I have never fished the norfork tailwaters but I have fished the white and the beaver tailwaters before. With the rainy summer we have had how wadeable are the tailwaters, i have read the white is almost unfishable without a boat. I would rather not rent a boat if I did not have to. Any suggested spots I should check out?

Wonder how this will affect the fishing on Hickory: http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/x1940319525/Neosho-officials-assessing-cause-of-basin-wall-collapse Where at on Hickory Creek is the sewage treatment facility that had the breech?

I have found some tremendous deals on http://www.hotwire.com for Branson during the fall/winter months. Usually around 29 a night or so.

Is Taneycomo Wadeable At 1 Unit.
yummysmokedham replied to yummysmokedham's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
LOL they suffered a humilating loss last week. You guys have a home game tonight or are you away? If you do not have to be up to do anything tomorrow we can go after you are done with the game tonight. -
Thinking about driving down this evening and doing some night fishing, looking at the corps site it looks like they are planning on running 25 MW all night. I take it that is one unit, is Taney still wadeable at that level? I usually fish the outlets at night.

Should I bring my waders?

Really??? Wished they stocked them that size everywhere I fish! Might come down if my schedule is free.

This was the first time in probably 3 years I have been to Hickory Creek, and let me tell ya I am kicking myself now. I used only white glo-balls and white woolly buggers and flat tore them up. I fished from about 5 until 7 each evening, caught around 5 fish the first night and this evening I caught about 8 fish. Included are the photos of the fish that were semi photo worthy. The majority of them did not seem to be stocker sized fish so I am guessing they had been in there for a while. All of the fish were caught either near logs or brush or in swift water.

I currently have some el cheapo wading boots, paid around 25 dollars for them at Bass Pro, that are just not cutting it. After a few hours in the water my lower back starts killing me and I am sure its due to the fact that my current wading boots have very little support in them. I am very picky about my shoes, 90% of the time I wear strictly tennis shoes with very good support. I am wanting to find a good pair of wading boots that offer some arch support. I have been looking at the Simms Guide series of wading boots, but they are quite expensive but if the work it will be worth the money to me. If you use another particular brand/style of boots I would love to hear your comments/recommendations as well. Thanks in advance!

What Are You Tying For C&r This Year?
yummysmokedham replied to Terry Beeson's topic in Roaring River State Park
Glo-Balls and Elk Hair Caddis is where it's at boys, might throw a olive or white streamer and wollybugger on occasion as well. -
I am bad about wearing my PFD, but I always wear it while I have the outboard running and I also wear it when the water is especially choppy. If I had my 8 year old kid out on the water I would make them wear it at all times. I would be curious how many people have drowned in Stockton since in was impounded, I would say that it has to average around 5 a year or so it seems like. I am not a big fan of the mandatory seat belt laws, but I can maybe justify it when it comes to children. Should there be such a mandatory PFD law for children? Or maybe there already is and I am not aware of it.

Heading To Denver Colorado In February
yummysmokedham replied to yummysmokedham's topic in U.S.A. - South & West Regions
I had been looking at the Dekers area for a few days now, figured I could fish and see pike's peak in the same time. I have been debating about the guide service, I am leaning toward getting a guide since I have never fished that river before. BTW Southwest has some pretty good deals going on right now for flying to Denver from Tulsa -
I will be out in Denver on President's Day weekend this coming February for some business and am planing on going out a day early. I am thinking about bring my fly rod along. Anyone have any experience with winter fishing in the Denver Area? I was thinking about the South Platte, just because it seems to have the most information online about it, but I am willing to go anywhere within a few hours drive on Denver. Is access to the South Platte, or any of the rivers, going to be an issue since I will be there in the winter? Thanks for any info in advance.

Here in MO I usually fly fish Capps Creek, Taneycomo, and Roaring River. I have been to Crane Creek a few times as well. I have just started fishing in AR, my Girlfriend lives in Fayetteville so I am usually down there every other weekend or so. The only places I have fished in AR so far is the White River near Mountain View, AR and the Beaver Tailwaters earlier this week. I did not even know about the Beaver Tailwaters until I read the Arkansas Trout Guide here a couple of weeks ago preparing for my trip to Mountain View. I fish pretty heavily at roaring river and now that I know about the Beaver Tailwaters and the fact that its only about a 30 minute drive south of Cassville I will be fishing there quite a bit. I did not have much luck when I at Beaver the other day, but that was basically my fault cause I did not come prepared. Next time I will have my waders. The water was extremely clear when I was there on Tuesday. I did the majority of my fishing from the boat ramp at the Bertrand Access. -

Thanks for the info, I am specifically looking at trout streams. Lots of warm water around here in Southwest MO. -
I recently purchased my Arkansas Trout and Fishing Permits and am looking at places to fish not too far from home. I fished the other day on the Beaver Dam Tailwaters and went down to Mountain View, AR and fished the white on Labor Day. I noticed in the Trout Fishing Guide posted on the Fish and Game Commission website that it lists Spavinaw Creek in Benton County as a Catch and Release trout fishery. I have done some searching online for information about fishing this creek and have not found any good information on it. I found it on a map, near Gravette AR. Has anyone here done much fishing on it? I am guessing that since its catch and release only that its not stocked. Looking for any pointers when it comes to fishing this stream and any good access points for wade fishing it. Thanks in advance.

I am no engine expert, but I have heard that ethanol is horrible on 2 cycle engines. I would be curious if anyone knows much about this. BTW I have been trying to get my boat gas in Oklahoma, they pride themselves in having ethanol free gas.

Looking at fishing Taneycomo this weekend, probably on Saturday and possibly on Monday. From what I have been reading in other posts it sounds like it is up quite a bit. I usually put in at cooper creek and go downstream from there, have not been brave enough to take my boat any farther up stream than cooper creek. I am wondering in Taneycomo is up high enough where I could go up stream to the dam and head back downstream. I have a 16 ft bass boat and I have heard the horror stories of people busting up their boats in the rebar hole and beaching it on some of the gravel banks.

Even though you will not be using waders I would suggest picking up a pair of wading boots. They work good and are designed for maximum traction on underwater surfaces. I usually use a spray on sunscreen that has deet insect repellent included. I am a big fan of the orange pinch off strike indicators, some people do not like them because the do leave some residue on your line when you take them off but I have less trouble getting them wrapped around my fly and I think they are more sensitive to lighter strikes.
