  1. Black bricks on the back of everything. Lowest common denominator marketing. End of R&D divisions, because no demand exists until someone else creates it. Dang. I may have to drive my boat until no one can repair or refurbish it. Or until the market changes once more. Who here remembers Herters or Ouchita or Okiebug. Innovators that blazed trails for later followers.
  2. I confess I enjoy a whiskey from time to time. When I do, I prefer a good Irish. Red Breast if I can, or an older Jameson. Bushmills is the lowest I will go. When I am forced to pick a bourbon, Booker is my first choice. I feel sorry for the blue/purple velvet club. (Insert snob motions and nod here.)
  3. Acceptable, and better than Jack. Have you tried Booker?
  4. Good work! What whiskey do you use for the bean saute?
  5. My friend Larry caught a Brown that weighed 7 pounds on a spring scale just above Beaver town. I have caught four or five between Beaver town and Eagle Rock, usually while trolling a late summer thermocline below 20 feet. As the water temps where I am are virtually the same temps as down to the 86 bridge, I am not surprised that they scatter. What I find interesting is the fact the ones I've caught "outside" trout waters are all beautifully colored and large.
  6. Well done Bo!
  7. The new unit arrived today. My goodness a 10 is huge. The fles arm mount will arrive soon. I will spend several days reading the installation instructions carefully and then plan an afternoon meeting with Scott and Jason to "do it right." The sad truth, and I am man enough to admit it, is that I am NOT handy with tools and such. I was not raised that way. I can parse legalese, I can reduce a sauce without burning it, and I can manage 13 year old children, but I don't even know the right tool words. I am very excited at the difference this will make in the information I can see.
  8. Jamie Oliver made up this recipe. You should try it! Ingredients 2 - 4 large potatoes, peeled and diced 2 eggs 2 large handfuls of fresh spinach (large handful frozen) 1 onion, finely chopped 1 carrot, halved and finely chopped 1 Tbs. extra-virgin olive oil 1 3/4 cups of heavy cream, divided. ¼ stick of butter 2 good handfuls of grated cheddar cheese Juice of 1 lemon ½ tps curry powder 1 heaped Tbs yellow mustard 1 pound haddock, cod or walleye, skinned, boned and sliced into strips Salt and pepper Method Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Put the potatoes and the eggs into a pan of salted water. Bring the pan to a boil over medium heat. Boil gently for 10 minutes. Remove the eggs to iced water to cool. Turn off the heat under the potatoes. Nuke the spinach for 2 minutes and allow it to cool. Squeeze the water out. After 10 minutes, remove the eggs from the ice water and peel and quarter them. Put to one side. Drain the potatoes in the colander. Add cream, butter, salt and pepper and mash. In a separate pan, slow-fry the onions and carrots in a little olive oil for about 8-10 minutes. Add the cream and bring just to a boil. Remove from the heat and add the Cheddar cheese, lemon juice, and mustard. When the mixture cools, add the fish and spinach. Put the fish mixture in a decent sized casserole dish and mix together. Spread the egg quarters on top. Check the mashed potatoes seasoning and add salt and pepper as needed. Spread the potatoes on top of the fish mixture. Place in the oven for 35 - 40 minutes. Brown and bubbly goal.
  9. You now have a timeout. Go to the corner.
  10. So what I see is someone who has found the baitfish with his electronics and still is trying to catch fish. I may have to send my new unit back.
  11. Hello fishing trip!
  12. Spread the word. Compared to many places the Beaver tailrace is under fished. In the last two years while fishing for other species, I have caught two over 4 pounds. About six or seven years ago, my friend Larry caught a legitimite 7 pound brown trout. BTW, the very large boulders in the deep pool above the 62 bridge hold large fish in the eddies.
  13. Jonbo, those of us who live and work in Eureka thank you for the good press. This town lives and dies on tourism and satisfied visitors like you and your wife are important. Come again soon!
  14. That is a slippery slope Bill.

Bo - I am in Holiday Island. I shop in Cassville about once a month. Hook me up with 3/4 ounce in green with no skirt. 10 or so. PM me.
  16. I do not know cool from hello. Ask the kids I teach. However, having said that, I thought it was way cool to catch and take a picture before I released it.
  17. Thanks Bill! Now all I need is to find someone to run the boat in this wind while I fish. In the wind yesterday and today my tin boat twists and runs before the wind like leaves on the water.
  18. Ken, I found the entire year to be the most difficult in my experience, including the year I moved here and began learning the lake.
  19. Excellent advice. Thanks.
  20. Does anyone on this forum have any direct experience with this mounting product? http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/BalZout_Electronics_Mounts_/descpage-BALZ.html
  21. When I posted earlier about upgrading, I included some background information. When I fish from my front deck, I am either throwing a top water, wart, a jig, or I am jigging a spoon. These tasks require accurate and powerful sonar and little else. Especially since 95% of the time I am fishing an area I have spent 12 years learnng. My small bird up front currently uses the universal transducer in my MinnKota and goes crazy every time I hit the motor power button. When I troll with either the big motor or the trolling motor, I do so from the rear of the boat. I do my exploring while seated there as well. That is the unit that needs to have screen room for sonar, down scan, and side scan. In addition, I want to change the unit position and availability for adjustment. The advantages of networking under those circumstances seem minimal to me. I had looked long and hard at a Garmin twin set arrangement using two of their echoMap 70dv units plus their side vu module and transducer. The best prices I have found for that arrangement (Universalmania, and the GPSstore) would have totaled 2100 to 2200 dollars. With those units I would have acquired units with chirp capability and vast screen space. However, I really want the change to stay under $2000, including the mounting costs. HB makes good units, but their proprietary screen set up wastes area for their left side information bar. A 7 is more like a 6 really. Still, I had considered linking my current unit with a upgraded twin, but that left me still in need of doing something up front. That partially explains my convoluted thinking on the subject. Now watch, the super cool latest bightest and bestest must have will be announced this next week.
