  1. Had a swayback. Really neat to look at. Could not tell any difference in productivity.o
  2. My center console was great. When I sold it, I would have bought a Alumacraft or Lund center console if they had sold one.
  3. I agree with you, provided you can take the pounding. I had an Xpress for four years. After that, I had a deep V Alumacraft and then a deep V Lund. Loved both. My kidneys appreciated the change as well.
  4. Shad spawn = Top Dollar. It's drunken unpredictable walk mimics the flipping and swirling shad. One cloudy day I caught over 60 bass with 8 or 10 keeps.

    What's Cooking?

Classic 1950's dish, Chicken Divan. Sounds French, but it is not. It was invented at a restaurant in NYC in the 30's. Basically chicken and broccoli casserole, I build it on chicken broth rice to make it a one dish meal. The sauce is cheese sauce with a few add ins.
  8. Good comments. With some of them, I agree. With others, I do not agree. Some of the side comments trouble me. However, I will not start a fight on this forum. Instead, I will say I am glad I stopped smoking. Now, if I could only stop using meth.

    What's Cooking?

When I moved to Eureka Springs to teach, the school assigned a mentor for me. Hassel Bell retired from teaching history and coaching football at Marshfield. When he did, he began teaching at Eureka to get his forty quarters for social security. He went home to Marshfield on the weekends. He was a College of the Ozarks grad and very smart. He was also as Missouri hillbilly as you could be. Every year on his birthday, the kitchen ladies would fix him chocolate gravy on homemade biscuits. He was in heaven. I miss that man.

  11. If you look at my avatar, you will see me holding a toothy walleye with my Boga grip. After an infamous incident with an angry bass and a spook, I spent the money. It was worth it. It went with the boat when I sold it. If you spring for that kind of money, knot one end of a small diameter rope. Slide a washer down to the knot. Slide an 18 inch piece of a pool noodle down to the washer. Run the other end of the rope through the tools handle hole and knot it at what ever length you like. Eased my mind about dropping the darn thing overboard.

    What's Cooking?

Yes, another pizza post. The quest for the perfect pie remains eternal. Nancy's fabulous crust from scratch, home made sauce, five cheeses, pepperoni, mushrooms, kalamata olives, fresh basil.

    What's Cooking?

Anymore I rarely fry. Potatoes sometimes. Chicken maybe once a year. Since I lost my regular supply of walleye, I pan fry crab cakes every now and then. For chicken fried whatever, try a wok. You may need to do so in batches, but cleanup is so much easier.
  15. I feel for you. The sad part will be the insurance companies cheapskate responses to people's troubles. I won't begin a tirade, but in the old days, I filed and tried more than one case in these circumstances.
  16. I gave up fishing for silver bullets, recently stocked trout from hatcheries, years ago. Now, I fish only for large trout. I do not care whether they are "natural" or originally stocked. As long as they have been in wild waters long enough to change colors, I am fine. They all go back anyway. I apologize, but if they can give me a good tug on my line, I am good.
  17. In 76, I was married, out of law school, and staring 27 in the face. I had a Lowe semi V jon boat with an inherited 18 horse Evinrude in the garage. We had just moved into our first house. Life was good.
  18. Does anyone still fish with the Daredevil or the Eppinger Red Eye Spoons anymore? How about the Creme worm with the spinner? The Shannon twin spin? Heddon Crazy Crawler? Heddon River Runt? A Cisco Kid? A Heddon Lucky 13? How about a Uncle Josh frog or eel? A Hawaiian Wiggler? A Lazy Ike? A Pico Perch or Swimming Minnow? Think on this: If we put a good angler in a boat with these ancient lures, what could he weigh in a tournament? That which is old will become new. That which is new will become old. Somebody sing Circle of Life.
  19. About the time I started to fish with my father seriously, 1960? 1961?, I read every page of the Herter,s catalogue that came to the house. The first time he took me to Canada with him, 1962?, we stopped in Minnesota before we crossed the border. The place had an entire isle of Herter products. When he passed, I found several Herter lures in the very old metal tackle box.
  20. My first "big boy" reel was a hand me down, knuckle buster Shakespeare President. It had Dacron line called coach dog on it. Late 50's. I also used a Mitchell spinning reel. If memory serves my father put them on solid fiberglass rods.

  22. You are probably right.
  23. Quillback, I am of course wrong, but looks like downstream of ER and upstream of Big M. Way out on flat gravel points.
  24. This is for the more mature on this board. Have you ever considered the similarity between a chatter bait and the old Hawaiian Wiggler?
