Did a little different stir fry tonight. http://www.ozarkrevenge.com/2018/08/sweet-sour-salty-spicy.html?spref=fb

Since I had fresh walleye, the wife asked me to use some to make Fantastic Fish Pie - like a shepard's pie, but with fish. The recipe is here in this thread somewhere. Paired it with a simple salad garnished with avocado.

Minn Kota/ Motor Guide trolling motors

You can run the cable down the channel on the shaft. Several you tube examples are out there. When I had the Terrova, that install worked great. -
My wife makes my light weight overall shorts. The one I am wearing here is an old model with a long zipper down the front. Now days she makes a more traditional model. She calls them my rompers. Trust me, nothing is more comfortable in the heat. However, with my shape and ugly old legs and feet, I will admit I do not look like Mike Iconelli.

BTW, today was my last day meat hunting until all walleye is consumed. Even with the wife's love of walleye, I figure that will be around Thanksgiving. Just as well, tomorrow I go back to work and will be weekends only from now until next May.

I love going out on the lake at daybreak! I netted the first keeper walleye at my second stop about 6:45. The location was a timberline on an outside bend channel swing. 28 feet of water. I lost a keeper on an inside bend flat edge about 8:00. Then I ran down lake to the Rock Creek area, but I only caught bass and three short walleye. I made one stop on the way back to the flat edge. No joy. Back at the flat edge I moved out to the 35 foot range. I quickly caught an 18.5 inch fish and stayed on the spot long enough to catch a 3.5 and 4 pound fish. I was back in my slip by 11:15. All fish came on a 1 oz. white War Eagle spoon. I had 10 pound braid on the reel tied to a small swivel. From the swivel I ran 3 to 4 feet of 10 pound Yozuri Hybrid. Windy with water around 83.

Minn Kota/ Motor Guide trolling motors

The people who connected the trolling motor cable to the plug spliced it and covered it with shrink tubing. Evidently their splice became corroded and shorted. Suddenly I had sparks shooting from under the heat shrink tubing, followed by fire. I finally got the entire thing unplugged by yanking the cable to pull the plug. At the same time, the wires parted. Bottom line, the fire was not the motor's fault, but the fault of he who made the original splice. Original post here: -
Well done! Good report.

Minn Kota/ Motor Guide trolling motors

After I had my rotator cuff surgery, my wife insisted I change troll motors. I had a Minn Kota Terrova which had a deploy/stow system like your X5. Now I have the 24 volt, 80 pound thrust Minn Kota Ulterra. As of now I believe it is the only self deploy/self store motor on the market. Mine is two years old and works beautifully, provided I keep a remote battery in the boat and the splice for the plug does not catch on fire. -
Don't ask me to explain why, but I went out at 5:00 PM this evening. I had hoped the crowd would be going home. I went down lake toward Eagle Rock. My first stop was a flat edge. I found bait fish, but no strikes. I did catch some fresh mono. See the picture at the end. The person lost over 100 yards of it. Can someone explain how that happens? My second stop was a tree stump on a outside turn bluff. I fished the deeper side at 37 feet with no bites. I fished the other side at 28 to 30 feet and caught a smallmouth. The next three fish were walleyes. When that tree would give no more, I moved about 50 feet to the next tree and picked up the last fish of my limit. The four were 23, 21, 19, and 18 inches. All fish came on a white War Eagle 1 oz. spoon. Water temp 83.

I am getting ready to put a top sirloin steak in the sous vide. I will precook two Yukon gold potatoes before I turn them into Jacques Pepin potatoes for dinner. For the other side I will cook the chiffinade Brussels sprouts with bacon and pecans I have posted before. The reason for my post this early in the day is the sauce I just made for the meat. Whip 3/4 cup of whipping cream until thickened , but not peaking. Add 2 or more Tablespoons of prepared horseradish. Add a large pinch of salt. Blend and add in a Tablespoon of gochujang sriracha. Taste and adjust. I promise you will lick the plate after serving with steak or roast.

Good fish! After 46 years married and 48 years together, I assure you, it never changes.

When I set out to spoon fish, rather that try it impromptu, I use a set up similar to yours. 10 pound braid (Suffix 832 0r Power Pro), size 12 black swivel, 4 feet of Yozuri Hybrid in 10 pound. I prefer the War Eagle to the CC because of the swivel and hooks. Binks makes a great spoon too. I recently learned my favorite metered braid, Power Pro Depthunter, is no longer available in 10#. I could not find a Suffix metered 10# either. Fortunately, several years ago I bought a 3000 yard spool of the Power Pro. However, when that is gone I will have to buy the Berkley Fireline metered, ( https://www.scheels.com/p/berkley-reg%3B-fireline-reg%3B-metered/D-8950-1405212-FILLSP.html?cgid=fishing-accessories-line#start=9 ) or the Dorisea ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076D1LYK4/ref=sspa_dk_detail_5?pd_rd_i=B076D29G9M&pd_rd_wg=1vyEq&pd_rd_r=89A0QPY2412TEKAZAP1V&pd_rd_w=2zIU1&th=1&psc=1 )

Thank you for the compliment. I know several gentlemen who catch as many and more than I do. They simply do not post here.

I roasted salmon several days back. Tonight I set out to use the part that remained. Onions, mushrooms, garlic, capers, olive oil, and the salmon joined some pasta. The salad received a homemade creamy peppercorn dressing.

Looks good! Kim Crawford makes great wines.

I should have known you know about the tip I wrote. Oh well, at least the other readers might learn something.

Some years ago I was having a similar difficulty. Walleye were regularly coming off even though they hit trolled baits and you would expect a good hook up. The adviice I received on another board was to change to a softer rod and loosen the drag. The bull dog runs are usually at the boat where running drag will not hurt you and the softer rod gives them less leverage to pull loose. It has helped a lot.

Lately, I have found the Ima Skimmer effective. Add to you possibilities the Gunfish and the Sixth Sense Splash back. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Ima_Skimmer_Walking_Bait/descpage-ISK.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/6th_Sense_Splash_Back_Topwater_Popper/descpage-6SSBTP.html

With the lake dropping and the inconsistent weather, I am finding it difficult to find a pattern and exploit it over a period of time. On the 26th I found multiple fish suspended at 24 feet on edges. On the 30th, I worked hard to find one fish suspended in tree tops. This morning, at the end of four hours, neither had paid off for me. I was graphing many bait fish holding between 20 and 25 feet deep, but only caught one bass (a keeper) in that time. I got out my spoon collection and went looking. I stopped at or near locations where I had caught multiple fish in the past. At the third stop I found walleye at 37 feet on the bottom next to a large, mostly submerged tree. The first three were juveniles, 16 to 17 inches. I never saw the fourth fish. I assure you, it was no juvenile. About half way up, after several hard lunges that took drag, it disappeared. No more bites after that, even though I stopped at two more locations. In the past, once the spoon bite develops, they will be deep until late September. Or not. Water temp 81 - 82.

Your screen name is what? And what about that avatar??
rps replied to ness's topic in General Angling Discussion
Wonderful thread to read! All of you have figured out that rps are initials from my first middle and last name. My father hung me with a "impressive" name that requires some time to sign. I started using rps as my signature when I had a gazillion legal papers to sign. At times one judge or another would question my use of initials. I had to point out a lesson from first year law school. A signature is what the signer wants to use as a signature (firsts semester, Real Property). After that, they accepted it. Note: When I was a baby lawyer, I was on the federal court list to be appointed to represent indigent "innocent citizens wrongfully accused." A forger who only caught a year for wire fraud taught me that the simple signature is the hardest to forge. The avatar is a Hughsey painted Top Dollar with Daiichi hooks and hand tied tail. I can literally say, "They don't make them like that anymore."
