  1. Thanks guys. Glad you enjoyed them!
  2. Im not talking about carp fishing
  3. I just added some photos from my trip in the photography section! I'll post a full report soon! Don't plan on carrying your rods on the place coming back from the UK. Rods are banned as carry on items. You MUST check them. I had no trouble carrying them on going over, but coming back they weren't having it.
  4. Here are a few photos from my recent trip to Scotland. I'll follow up with a full trip report soon. I hope you enjoy. All Images © Randy Hanner and www.sovereignpiscator.com, 2017. 5. I am fishing with friends. Most of whom are on the Scottish National Fly Fishing Team. I have quite the itinerary while I'm there; The Clyde, The Don, The Tummel, Loch Leven, and a fair number of other rivers and lakes haven't been told about yet. I helped them quite a bit on their trip here last fall.
  6. I'm heading to Scotland on the 25th for 10 days of fishing. I'm only targeting trout and grayling. NO SALMON. I'll report back when I return.
  7. Here is a shot I took while fishing in North Carolina a few weeks ago. Enjoy
  8. There are Several ways to get to Gunnison from Durango.
  9. I'm in Boulder, but I fish the Vail area quite often on my days off. The Eagle is on fire right now btw!
  10. Hey Ruthead, Do you know where he's gonna be, or wants to be?
  11. Can hike downstream all you like. It is still very reminiscent of The Missouri trout parks and Spring River in Arkansas. My point is, there are much better options than making a trip out of the way to fish the Uncompahgre.
  12. I started guiding in Durango in 2006. I know the area like the back of my hand. Colorado snow pack state wide is 145%. The Southwest part of the state is at 160%. Its not likely that the snow will melt early (except here on the Front Range, even still we are at 136% in the South Platte drainage.) I second the float on the Rio Grande. Heck, the Animas is an amazing river to float as well. Look up Will Blanchard with Animas Valley Anglers for either river (Animas or Rio). And stay away from the San Juan. its not worth your time to drive all the way down there. You will be there at a great time to fish. I guided the Rio also and at that time you will see stones, caddis, and possibly green and gray drakes. Uncompahgre River is very similar to fishing at Roaring River or Bennett Springs in Missouri or the Spring River in Arkansas. Manicured to the river, lots of people and stocked fish. Let me know when you head out this way and I can point you in the right direction as well as keep you updated on what is happening with the water! Cheers!
  13. Hook: TMC 2499 SPBL 10-18 Bead: Gold tungsten -Size to match hook Tail: Caddis Gold Z-lon or gold microlon Trimmed short. This is to replicate the egg sack Body: Hare's ear dubbing Wings: 2 CDC feathers (one on each side, the length of the body) Overwing: partridge feather. (cut off the tip so there is a V-notch, lay the partridge on top and use your thread to distribute the fibers around the fly....almost like spinning deer hair but not quite) Antennae: 2 strands of krystal flash Collar: hares ear
  14. Thanks for the post Billethead! (all of the photography but two images are mine also they had a mis-print on that one), but its an awesome feeling to get published like that. Enojy it! Flysmallie--that is a great little caddis. It works great fished on the swing, nymphed solo, or even better fished dry dropper. If I get some time, I'll put up a SBS.
  15. Sorry Flyfishmaster, i just saw this. I live in denver so I fish the eastern side of the state(the front range) the most. However, there are only a couple of areas in the state that I havent fished. I used to live in Durango and fished that area exclusively for 3 years. (including the San Juan in New Mexico. When I get time to fish, I prefer to spend most of my time on the Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, Eagle and Arkansas.
  16. Next time you're out here, let me know (that goes for anyone). I spend a lot of time over on the fork and pan, and I'd be glad to show you around.
  17. Not sure why others do or don't, but just about every fish I have filleted has had them They may be more pronounced in some fish than others, but all fish have them in their flilets. They are more noticeable after they are cooked. That is if we are talking about the same thing.
  18. Those little black strings are/were blood vessels.
  19. I made the 2 hour trek from Denver to the lower Eagle river today. Bluebird Skies, warm temps, and warming water. There was some wind in the begining of the afternoon, but not enough to make me pack up and leave. As I drove down the outer road following the river, the level was low and the claridy was clear which is perfectly fine with me. As I got further down from Wolcott however, the a side creek was dumping in a TON of dirty water. When I finally made it down to my final destination, the whole river was off. I fished anyway. Seems it didn't bother the fish one bit. Large midges #16's, #16-18 BWO's and sporadic caddis made up the fare for the day and the fish responded. I nymphed for a while and managed to pick up a few fish, but decided to switch to a dry dropper because of the water the fish were holding in, a dry dropper worked much better. The average fish was 16-18 inches, fat, happy, and healthy. I would have take some photos, but I forgot my net at home, and its rather difficult to grab photos with a DLSR and no net. Also saw a mink with a fresh catch of a 12" rainbow for breakfast. All in all a great day with some needed time on the water.
  20. Got out today for a few hours on Boulder Creek. Water is low, clear and cold. Its best to stay in the lower canyon if you head over there. Caught fish all on nymphs. all of the nymphs were size 16 baetis. 5x tippet worked just fine. I expect that with the warming weather this week we will see the water start to turn off color and rise a bit. Either way, we will still have a couple weeks before runoff starts. It was a great day out on the water....oh and did I mention....not another soul out there. Tight lines.
  21. Welcome Nicholas. If i still lived in Joplin, I'd be more than happy to take you out fly fishing. Unfortunately I'm in Denver now.
  22. I meant my house! haha
  23. I'd be more than happy to show you guys around out here! You'd have a free place to stay also!
  24. I fished the Arkansas today near Salida. Air temps were in the 50's and the water was in the upper 40's. Mostly cloudy skies with snow dumping in the Collegiate Peaks and the Sangre de Cristos. Water was low and clear, perfect springtime conditions. I fished for about 4 hours and caught quite a few browns on size 14 and 16 nymphs. There were a few risers keying in on the odd midge, BWO and CADDIS. There were a few fluttering about signaling that the water temps are perfect and our "5th season" is here and the main caddis hatch is just around the corner.
  25. you might want to put this in the Bennett Spring thread a little bit farther down the page. its more likely to get seen by people who fish Bennett more often.
