Deep Cycle Battery
Chief Grey Bear replied to Growler's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I saw a program on the History Channel, Modern Marvels I believe, and it showed numerous name-brand and non name-brand batteries made in the same plant. Only difference as stated was the outside package. Lead plates and acid are just that. I'm not one to support ones lifestyle if I don't have to. -
I do. But mostly the surrounding creeks as you stated. Less crowded with the same quality fishing. Now that I know you are a rail and I am an ex-rail, I would really love to fish with you and swap some strories!
-
Hey that pretty cool. I spent 12 years as a rail myself. I then decided being home to teach my kids about the outdoors was more important. Man I miss it like crazy though. I used to work out of KC for the IMRL long ago and had to deliver to 18th street one night. Got over there and finally got into the yard. Got to the other end and cut off and hollered at the Yrd Master for about 45 minutes. Not a sound out him. He was talking to everyone else but us. I told my conductor to line us in the track next to us since it was clear. When we got to the other end and he saw us, he decided he wanted to talk to us. We didn't answer for a little bit and then I finally talked to him. He wanted to know if we made it a habit to just go running around others yards. I explained that we had been calling for him for 45 minutes and since it was a clear track, he wouldn't speak to us, and that it was in yard limits, we didn't break any written rule. It was silent and we were then lined up to head back home.

Deep Cycle Battery
Chief Grey Bear replied to Growler's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
That is the battery I use too. It's called EverStart. I have had mine about 5 years now and am gonna have to replace her this year. I noticed last year she only wanted to work about a 1/2 a day. Now another year older and a little more feeble, I must replace her. -
I took my son, Dylan, to a couple of spots on Indian Creek that I know of. After flinging a Wiggle Wart and a Jig n pig, with no takers, I put on a Rapala and the waters started smoking. In the span of about 45 min. I caught 4 brownies and 3 Largemouth. The smallest was 14 and the largest was 16. I missed one largemouth that would have beat them all. He looked to be in the neighborhood of 2.5 + lbs. He bit and spit just as fast. I was standing on a high bank and saw the whole thing take place below me. Dang, I wish I could have stuck him. Oh well, I know his address.

We are about 3 hrs right down the road from you to the south in Neosho Mo.
-
Well, I think it about time you two made a trip this way and let me and Buzz take ya for little wading. We can put you on some of the best water fisherman don't know about.
-
Hey Ollie We had to pass up a lot of spots that last year I fished with success. And that was due solely because the water was so fast. I believe that even if we were able to stop and fish it, the water was just moving to fast to effectively and properly fish it. I am also afraid that some of my favorite logs to hit are gone too. I think next time we will slow down a little and spend more time. But we did get a late start too. I think it was in the neighborhood of 1:00 before we set sail. Buzz, I hope that is about a 50lb anchor!!! We may need it.

Kyle and I took a float trip today on a section of Shoal Creek. The water was fast and high, but it was clear. We caught some really nice bass today. All were fat largemouth except one really nice brownie. Looks like things are starting to heat up on the creeks and rivers. If we can ever get a few days of dry weather, maybe this water can go down and make for some even better fishing. 'Tis the season boys, lets go get 'em.

Decent Inexpensive Fly Reel
Chief Grey Bear replied to strangercreek's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
Hey Stranger, I have also been eyeballing those same reels at the Gremlinfishing page. I was looking at the 5/6 weight. If you want to try and get one a little cheaper keep an eye on Ebay. They sell a lot of them there. Or you can opt for the buy it now and pay the $24 + shipping. They have a lot of nice reels and other stuff for the flyfisherman. -
Hey, I'm always up for some "scouting". In fact my plan is to do a little floating WED and THUR after work. I was going this even but didn't feel like dodging the storms. Ain't it about time we make a run to Bushwhacker and Lamar? We also need to make a run up to Harmony Mission.

We will have some brownie fishing with in a reasonable drive. Meaning just a few minutes drive. Right now I think cranks with a crawdad pattern ( Reble or Wiggle Wart) or Bass jigs with a crawdad trailer. Spinners should start working any time. Of course you know how this time of year can be. Very finicky or anything you toss at them. I'm in a holding pattern on Hickory at the moment. Due to the floods, poaching and just plain keeping fish, I'm not for sure there are any in there. I spent some time there this morning and never even saw one. I think we need a stocking. Now I hit the regular holes and not some of the lesser known honey holes. I have no idea what is going on over at Capp's at the moment. It has been a couple or 3 months since I fished it.
-
Hey let me know when you are comming and I will meet with you if you want. As roundtrout stated, Capp's and Crane are close also. Capp's is about a 15 minute drive from Hickory and Crane will be about 45. I haven't fished any since all the flooding we have had lately. But by the looks of things there is not a lot of wood in the water. The holes and gravel bars have sure changed though. Bring a spinning rod also to hit some of other creeks as the smallies will be feeling pretty good. How long do you plan on staying? One day? all weekend? Oh, if you plan on working your way down to the Spring River confluence, better bring some comfy footwear and a Kan. license as well. Its a long walk from Neosho to Riverton Kan. What roundtrout meant to say was Shoal Creek. I have worked that section a few times. There are some nice holes, but not a lot of action.
-
Its not going to run "gin" clear like Indian or Elk. It will run clear like its neighbors to the north, the Spring and Center. Those on the fringe of the ozarks run a little different than those straight out of the hills.
-
Was you in the Corsicana area? Pioneer? I never got to fish that before the dam finaly let go. Also a good spot south of W hwy.
-
Hey Ollie, it's looking great around the Neosho area. Really good Neosho and east.
-
Do you still have this boat? If so can you send a pic or two my way?
-
That is quite a statement. When you combine ALL other SPORTS.... I mean you could even throw in High School and City league sports as they also contribute to the economy by selling consesions. When you sit down and think about it and you think all sports and not just on the Pro level......we has a coutry have a lot of sports going on. Then of course you have the whole gambling thing........

Vintage Boat Motor Problem
Chief Grey Bear replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Angling Discussion
Looks like someone is trying to put the meat to you. Check out Ebay for parts or even parts motors for less than half that. Parts motors usually go for about $100, give or take. There are also a number of forums you can go to for tech help with this motor. Motors of this size and vintage are as easy to work on as a lawn mower motor. -
I went to BP Sunday and made a trip by the tank. Out of all the of the fish in there only 3 Largmouth Bass and 3 Stripers , had bug eyes. One of the stripers eyes looked to be just about completely out of the sockets. But all of the others, even from the same species, looked just fine. Maybe these were new to the tank and had not adjusted yet. Beats me.
