  1. I love looking through this book. I love Minced Meat pie. But I've never been brave enough to tackle the one in this book. But boy it looks good. I like collecting older cookbooks. Not only for the recipes, but the photos that were cutting edge in 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's are really cool in my opinion. It just really takes you back home. I only post this today because Marty mentioned his Game cookbook and wanted to share this one with y'all.
  2. Holio Molio! You are on fire today!!
  3. We don't add any beef or pork. We just prefer and enjoy the flavor of straight venison. I too have made breakfast sausage out of venison. I use a Jimmy Dean clone recipe from the web. Wow is that good stuff. And healthy!
  4. Chief approved too!!
  5. How about a Western Skillet with turkey?
  6. Or dropped so many balls. On paper, Mizzou looks pretty good. On the field, not so much.
  7. Oh, I forgot to mention. When making the greenbean version, I like to add wild rice. The wife doesn't care for it but I think it really adds to the dish.
  8. This is a smoked Greenbean casserole. It's the exact same recipe as Smoked peas. 3 cans greenbeans/peas drained 1 can Cream of Mushroom 2 slices bacon cooked and crumbled with drippings fried onions to taste Salt and pepper to taste. Mix and throw on smoker for a couple of hours
  9. Thanks fellas. I like a deep, rich mahogany color.
  10. About to bring'er in.
  11. Good looking bird today with charcoal and oak. Using one of my bullet smokers today.
  12. Sweet job Eric! Let me know next time you're back and I can show a couple of spots only a few locals know. And if you make a summer trip, I'll take you on a float.
  13. And chicken!! Oh my "BBQ" chicken from a crock is awesome!
  14. Hey I've made a lot of "BBQ" in the crockpot that I love! Left over roast with bbq sauce added. Beef short ribs with bbq sauce is killer! Even shredded pork in the pot with sauce is mouthwatering. But I don't consider it tradtional BBQ. But still it's dang good!
  15. Exactly! These are two different styles of cooking. Hot and fast is not BBQ'ing in the tradtional sence.
  16. My only concern with drum cookers is the direct heat. There is either no defector or you have to purchase it seperate. It just seems to me that the low end of the hanging meat is more susceptible to burning and or drying out due to being much closer to the fire than the other end. These type cookers are making great products though. Can't argue with the success of them.
  17. Yes. Mrs. Paul is a nice, nice lady. I don't reccomend stopping by to Trick or Treat though. On a side note, you can buy your meats and things already smoked if you have too many things going on. Cheaper in the long run too.
  18. Well you either commit a day to fishing if you want to eat fish or you drop by Mrs. Paul's and get some fish sticks. LOL
  19. Oh sure. You can put sawdust in pan on a hot plate and call it smoking too. In fact that is a really good way to cold smoke cheese and bacon. And I've toyed with the thought of getting a pellet smoker some day. But part of the fun and accomplishment of smoking is being the Pitmaster and attending to the fire.
  20. Gas is for girls.
  21. Agreed Rick. To smoke, to properly smoke, you need two key elements; wood, or some type of wood product, and fire or hight heat source. Ive been grilling/smoking 30+ years and learned some from my dad and my own trial and errors. I love it! It's my favorite way to prepare meals! I have used a number of different smokers over the years. I can tell you without a doubt vertical smokers are far superior to any horizontal smoker. The main reason why is also the most obvious. Smoke and heat rise. Electric smokers are very expensive dehydraters. The concept is exactly the same. Gas smokers, like gas grills are easy to use and can produce somewhat palletable food, but really what did you do but turn it on? Nothing really. It's like a Ronco, set it and forget it. Thanks, but no thanks. Give me a stick burner or charcoal smoker or give me death! Some of you here shouldn't take that last comment too literal!
  22. Bullet smokers have won a ton of comps too. Championship comps. Hard to beat.
  23. WOWZA!!
  24. It's a perfect time to be out now. Finally getting a push from the north!
