  1. I grew up on Spring River in Jasper County. Be nice to her and she will yield some very nice Kentuckys.
  2. If you have a lead on an Old Town, I'd go that route. I'd steer clear of aluminum. Mostly because like it was said, it is tougher to glide over the riffles. It is a bear to drag too. As far as noise, you won't find a completely silent canoe. That is where one has to learn to paddle without banging the sides. One must also refrain from sliding their equipment around in the bottom of a canoe. I guess what I am saying is that a canoe is only as noisy as the operator. At times I am just as guilty too.
  3. I have not found the study I am looking for yet but, here are some articles that you may find interesting. http://health.usnews.com/articles/health/h...edications.html http://www.metaefficient.com/toxic-chemica...-tap-water.html http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2009/may/04/...nused-research/
  4. I posted about this back in March of this year. Didn't get any attention. Glad you brought it back up. It is a very worth while cause. And hang in there bud, we are all pulling for you.
  5. Most of the meds flushed come from the presciptions of loved ones that have passed. There are also large numbers of out of date meds that get flushed. Not everyone is a junkie looking for a good time. People don't want to take the chance of someone (children or adults) finding them in the trash and taking them or selling them. It is a crazy world. I don't have time at the moment, Dylan has football practice, but somewhere there is a study that found these Pharms in the tissue of fish. I will see what I can find as I get some time.
  6. Like Russ said, the photo does not show all of the trash. But at that, what trash we did collect this time was nowhere near the amount we got from this stretch earlier this year. I hope that is a sign that those using the park are being more conscientious about their trash. It is really a beautiful park.
  7. I haven't read this paticular article but, I believe they may be talking about flushing the pills themselves. I have been hearing about this for the last few years. I just heard on the news this morning that just over the line here in KS some place, there has been a place set up for people to bring their unneeded meds for proper disposal. It said to date, and I didn't catch how long it has been open but I don't think for all that long, they have recieved 60 lbs so far. Now if this one town did this, can you imagine how much we could get out of the streams if all towns offered this? I think this is a geat idea and it needs to spead like wildfire!
  8. I pinch mine down and that helps tremendously but, it is still not as good as not using a snap on those type baits. I think that those type baits a tendency to tumble and roll when casted and thus causes the line to wrap around more often. That is just my thought on it.
  9. Sure do. We'll discuss it when you are down in a couple of weeks.
  10. Double ditto.... Bring on Olliefest! It is in just a few short weeks fellas!
  11. I take it that since you have read my offer of assistance, with your refusal to reply, you are declining my offer?
  12. Yep all good. Now we gotta worry about WW for hijacking his thread! eric- I agree that bass are good grub. I don't recommend keeping them over the, ohhh say, 12-13 inch range. You could go 14 but, I wouldn't go any bigger. I rarely keep fish anymore. I am the only on in the house that really likes them so I just don't mess with them. I am ashamed to say that the last fish I fried up...uhhh, was...uh, store bought. I am hankering for a mess of goggle eye though. And I think next time I get into them, I am gonna keep a mess. I do like smoking some trout every now and then too.
  13. This here is what I am talking about. Only I don't get the red color. You can also get these from Academy Outdoors. If you have a Dick's in your area, they may also have them. I use the smallest size on my Falcon and Loomis ultra lites and the next size on my Fenwick baitcasters. I have even been know to use them on my flyrod when using jigs. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...010000_100-10-5 I don't recommend using them with a spinnerbait or buzzbait. I do it but, they can cause troubles.
  14. Oh man, you must be cleaning them wrong or something. I can't begin to tell you how many we ate this year floating. Boy there ain't nothing like taking the cast iron and frying up some fresh brownies right there on the river!
  15. Snaps are all I use and I have yet to loose a plug or a fish.
  16. Really? You ever try one with some fried taters and pork-n-beans? Now that is some gooooooooooood eating! No Wisconsin yankee beer either. Got to be from St. Louie!
  17. Is the gradient per mile being figured in any of this? Would it matter? I would think if you also add in those variables it wo....u...ld...soooorrrrr.....yyyyyy, braaaaain is seeeeeeeizinnnng. Ceeeeeeeee.......lls melllllllting.
  18. Not really for sure Phil but you may want to contact a DU chapter in that area of KS. They would be a huge help I have a contact with the MDC that is a waterfowl research scientist. I can ask him from some contact info if you want it.
  19. I was just offering a little advice to help you obtain the information you are looking for. I see you have it figured out though. And it appears to be working too.
  20. They are here. And they are not all old timers. Those that know are just a little tight lipped around folks they don't know. You are not gonna walk up to one and start getting the info you are looking for. You won't get in year. But if you are willing to invest the time and effort to get to know them you will learn. And slowly they will let loose of a little more and little more. Depending on our YOU interact with them. Personally I am proud to be a hillbilly. But the way you use the term, ain't scoring you any brownie points. If you catch my drift. Not putting you down, just giving some advice for you to use so you may gain the advice you are looking for.
  21. Sure it will work. Now the sparkly kind won't hold sent, but the other type will. It can also help when you experience one that follows without striking. The sent can change his mind and add more fish to your day. It can also help when fish are not feeding as aggressively. The sent trail that follows can be just what you need to trigger that strike. It certainly won't hurt your chances.
  22. Naw, there is no effect on the performance. I think it just adds a little bulk to the look. Kinda like using a trailer on a spinnerbait.
  23. We will do. Buzz and I have been fishing it a few times a year. This time I think we are going to do something a little different. For a second there I thought you said you like to eat BS. Glad I read it a second time! Just kidding!
  24. I thought I would show you just what I was speaking of with the pipe cleaners. I must apologize for the crappy photos. Cut off about 1" or 1 1/2" piece. Wrap that piece around the shank of the hook. You can also just wrap the whole length of cleaner around the hook and cut off the excess. You can do both front and back hooks. Let your imagination be your guide. The only type plugs I wouldn't do are the smaller ones. Especially like a Tiny Torpedo. They can't hold up the extra weight when they draw in and hold water.
  25. Is this the Wood Chopper you are talking about eric? Or were you talking about the Smithwick Devil's Horse? These were fist made in my home town of Carthage. I knew the man that started the company. He since sold out years ago but, you can still buy these. Boy I wish now I had the original boxes these babies came in?
